Lusternia's family system is pretty sweet. It can let a couple founders of a family make their own little empire, and is pretty flexible about who takes who's name in marriage. However, it's got one huge, gaping flaw, that I don't understand. It needs to be fixed.
Revan Xandul married Luciden d'Murani, and took the d'Murani name. They both considered me, and I became Xanon d'Murani, son of Revan and Luciden d'Murani. Great.
Later, Revan and Luciden get a divorce, and they revert to Revan Xandul and Luciden d'Murani.
You'll find that I'm still the son of Revan and Luciden.
You'll also find that when you Honours Revan, He is a founder of the Xandul family.
However, wanting to cut all ties from Luciden, and stick with my Father, Revan, and continue on his legacy, is a problem. I cannot FAMILY ACKNOWLEDGE Xandul. I'm not related to them, apparently. How can this be?
I asked Morgfyre, and he told me he cannot simply change my name as I requested.
What is the difficulty in this system, and how hard can it be to simply continue on my father's name?

If you were born into the d'Murani family, you will always have been born into the d'Murani family. Just because a parent leaves the family you were born in and founds a new family does not mean you will suddenly have been born into that new family (though of course a parent is a parent forever).
Yeah, I know there's been some complaints about the "inflexibility" of some aspects of the Lusternia family system, but I feel that also provides its integrity. We shy away of making "exceptions" because that opens up a Pandora's box of problems.
Also, our family code is fairly complex and not easy to revamp or tweak. Of course, this shouldn't be a concern for players--I'm just letting you know for information's sake.

That's fair enough, with the exception that the family had already been founded. It just does not make sense that when the parents split, that a child may not choose which side of the family to continue on with. But I do appreciate the response, it was honestly more than I expected.

I still want to be able to become the brother or sister of a family founder.

It kind of does make sense though, Xanon, because the family system is rather different to modern Western family dynamics. If there's a family involved and two people get married, one person is always leaving their family to marry into the other. Any children born are in that particular family.
Think about how patriarchal families worked way-back-when, when a daughter married into a different family and took that name. Any children born are obviously in the father's family, and if that wife later left the marriage (apart from being a huge scandal) the children wouldn't have the option of suddenly not being part of the family into which they had been born. In this respect the Lusternian system is more flexible because the decision about who's marrying into which family is not restricted by sex.

Yes, I think that'd be a neat option.

Would it be very hard to change the code so you could marry (+ found a family) and -then- bloodbond a brother or sister into the family?
Currently it's only possible to bloodbond (+found family) and -then- marry.
