I've always enjoyed playing a sneaky character, my favorite were the serpents in Achaea or the Syssin in Aetolia. I was rather disappointed when I started playing Lusternia by the fact that there were no thief guilds around. Don't get me wrong, I think Lusternia is a great game, but I don't understand why there aren't any options for someone who wants to be a thief/assassin. All the other IRE muds have this class, I mean, all the other muds I have played have it, why not Lusternia?
Well, I don't even know if this is the right place to put this, but I just thought that a thief guild would be a very nice addition to the game.

Erm no

Thieves aren't looked highly upon here so I doubt we will ever get a Thief type guild. However, the Magnagoran and Glomdoring (if they are released) have a secondary skill devoted to stealth and sabotage from what I have heard. I don't know for sure as I'm not in the committee.

Well, it's better than nothing. Perhaps I was misunderstood, when I said I would like to see a thief type archetype, I was thinking more about the stealth abilities and perhaps illusions, not necessarily about the ability to steal. Maybe a better name would have been a stealth type archetype.
As a side note, I really like the thieves in Achaea and Aetolia, I haven't played Imperian too much, the ability to steal from others adds a lot of depth to the gameplay, but I understand if other players don't agree with me. Having you precious equipment stolen is very frustrating, after all.

No. No it wouldn't.

Rather than make it an archetype of it's own, I think if they are building a stealth skillset it should be allowed for other archetypes as a skillchoice.
The Thief/Rogue/Scout/Assassin is a classic archetype missing from the game. Since this game allows more variety in choices of skill sets, I'd assume we'd have thief abilities be taken up by bards, warriors, and monks.

So many of the existing guilds are already awfully good at being sneaky. Almost everyone has a shroud ability, for instance, and quite a few guilds have good spying skills.
A dedicated thief/assassin class is one of those things that doesn't work nearly as well in a MUD as it does in tabletop, but people expect it and thus people put it in and then everyone takes all the problems it causes for granted, but they're entirely avoidable. Leaving it out is a great example of Lusternia avoiding the mistakes made in the other IRE games. Just like leaving out retardation vibes.
Oh, wait...

Well, Gwylifar, they are building a stealth skillset for the monks guild which would include many of the Snake-like abilities. Apparently it's supposed to be Mag/Glom monks only, which I think will eventually be changed.
To clarify, because we are short of players for new guilds and each community has 5 so far, it would probably be better for stealth/scout/rogue abilities to be adapted into the existing archetypes rather than create a separate one.

Personally, I've always seen the mages as very good Sneaky/Assasin type classes.
Specially now with telepathy.

Every other archetype can get stealth when we all get to share harmony, or psionics, hell let's just take a few weapon specs as well. It makes no sense that I can't go beating people with a sword.

Only if I get to take Dreamweaving.

Yeah, well Phred, Estarra asks that we do not discuss the ideas for skillsets. The thing that that retarded Little Helper person posted was so off whack.
They were simply ideas, and nothing has been told to any of us inside the monk comittees that these ideas are going to actually be implemented into any skillset at all yet.

The Stealth thing has been posted on the forums--not the details but several of you mentioned that monks were rumored to be getting something involving stealth. So I wasn't referring to specific details.
What I'm saying is that the stealth archetype is a big part of FRPGs. So, considering it's not likely we're getting a new archetype so soon after monks, it might make more sense to add stealth-like abilities as choices for several archetypes. Sort of how multiple classes can choose tarot or hexes.

I'll just throw this out there....
A large reason for the recent exodus from achaea to other IRE games are the thieves, the player base it attracts, and the PK garbage that ensues.
At least, it is in my opinion.
But I have selfishness now, what do I care?

EDIT: Ignore me. I started thinking about this and realized I was very wrong.

theives suck plain and simple i hate the idea of losing my junk another reason we dont have mainstream theiving in this game is people actually spend realife money to pay for their items .. and to have it stolen would really be a bad thing. everyone in the game i think can get yesod.. maybe not druids? not sure.
Unknown2007-09-16 21:21:39
Phred, I wouldn't like other archtypes getting stealth. Not even Bards. Bards already have Acrobatics, which they share with monks. Stealth and Harmony should stay separated. They reflect both sides of the monk spectrum.
