So the Wii Zapper comes out Nov 19th.

Is this a useless piece of plastic which already does what the wiimote does, but in a fancier more user friendly casing?

Or is this an actual upgrade of the controller scheme, and something which will ehance the gameplay of future games?

I'm currently playing Resident Evil 4, and I don't think it would be improved by having a gun. *shrug*

I think it's basically a new casing, though it comes with some sort of zelda target practice game so I'll be getting it just for that tongue.gif

From what I've read it's basically just a piece of plastic. In itself it doesn't do anything and in theory you could hold to Wiimote and the nunchuck in the same positions to do exactly the same thing, but less comfortably.

Although I didn't know about the Zelda game.

Yes, the Zelda game is tempting, but the question is if I should buy more than one for the multiple player games. (And I'll probabbly be buying it for that, but it sounds more like a mini game lasting maybe 2 hours of fun)

I'm guessing pointless. I am considering the bat attachment when a better baseball game than The Bigs comes out.

Pssh.. Get a bat, get some duct tape. Problem solved!

I think there's going to be a package with the Zapper and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, isn't there? Or maybe I'm just making things up.
Unknown2007-09-12 01:54:09
That's the game they were demo-ing when I saw videos of the Zapper, but I haven't heard anything about a package. That doesn't mean much though, I've mostly written the Zapper off as not worth it.

But Zelda is always worth it, so I might reconsider.

I think the zapper will be worth it. Who wants to hold their controllers like that for hours? It has function, whereas the bat and racket tops are completely stupid.
Unknown2007-09-12 02:21:07
Yeah but do you really need to hold the remotes in that position? You can point the remote with your right hand and rest your left hand on your leg, doing exactly the same thing.
Shamarah2007-09-12 02:24:07
I somehow think it would be rather fun to point the gun at the screen when shooting zombies, but I dunno. In any case while upon reviewing the Gamespot page it does not seem like there's a package with the Zapper, it does appear that Umbrella Chronicles is being tailor-made to work well with the Zapper so it should hopefully enhance the game. I'll probably end up buying it, it just seems like fun.

Its only gonna be $20, aaand it'll come with Link's Crossbow Training. I'd say that's a pretty good buy regardless of anything else.

I know Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 has the option of using the Zapper too. I'm guessing quite a few shooters will have the option in the future.

I personally just can't wait for Duck Hunt to hit the VC. That will rock so hard.

Though, I'm also looking forward to the balance board that will be coming with Wii Fit early next year. The possibilities for games with that thing is just.. phenomenal. Imagine a surfing game using that thing? That would blow anything ever seen on a game system right out of the water. No pun intended. But seriously, I'm so excited for the future of the Wii, especially if developers continue to refine controls. I doubt it'll be long before we see a really solid 1:1 motion sword fighting game. And upcoming MoH looks great what with actual pump action for the shot guns and pointing the wiimote back over your shoulder like a rocket launcher.

Obviously a lot of things are still gimmicky, but the possibilities are definitely starting to be probed. Things can only get better from here on out. And I think the zapper is actually a decent step in that direction, as it might lead to something like a dual pointer controller...which, come on.. how badass would that be? Two Wiimotes that are shaped kinda like the nunchucks, keeping the analog sticks. Everyone was thrilled when Halo 2 allowed you to wield 2 different weapons.. but imagine being in a game and wielding 2 pistols completely independent of eachother? Or a mech game where you control each arm individually. There are just so many things that could be done that I really wish I was somehow connected to a major game publisher tongue.gif

And wow.. I really rambled.

Guitar Hero comes out for the Wii in October, and the Zapper in November... ahh, decisions decisions.

Also remember that Umbrella Chronicles is basically a 'on wheels' (Think House of the Dead / Time Crisis) gun game compared to the other Resident Evil's. The Zapper is there to make it easier for you to stay more accurate.. That, and you get it with the game, so personally.. I don't mind it too much. ;p
