MONK swings his leg high into the air at your head.
Drawing back his left fist, Miertan punches you in the head.
Drawing back his right fist, Miertan punches you in the head.
Your nose is savagely hit and breaks, causing blood to splurt forth.

What are you honestly supposed to do against that? It's not like monks hit slow...they hit ridiculously fast, and I was stunned on every other hit. Parry head the entire time...which apparently does nothing. And they can combo through aeon? Am I losing my mind or does this actually seem remotely fair.

I think that more than part of it depends on how many combos they've gotten in. Apparently their combos go faster the more they've successfully done in a row (or something like that? :/) I just know that when I'm fighting a monk, webbing and entangling get bumped up in the priority list.
Rika2007-09-20 20:37:29
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Monks are OP. Especially Tahtetso.
Though, hindering them will help.

Ashteru2007-09-20 20:38:43
yeah, no attack except their initial is slowed by aeon. However, a simple web is enough to stop it, invest your demon with shackles and that should make monks REALLY annoyed.
Unknown2007-09-20 20:41:05
That's...totally ridiculous. They shouldn't get three hits as if they were one..and each one counts separately. That dosen't make any kind of sense.

I dunno, Tahtetso seems like a pain in the butt skillset, especially having to get up and keep up vibrations. Monks are dependent on their speed. And they may need some work on the katas, since it seems like katas are more potent than actual shofangi/tahtetso techniques (or that could be that they don't use the specializations as much, but that would then lead me to believe that kata is better since it seems to be used alot more, in all the documentations of monks being OP at least)

Stance head;lol monk. Stance > PPK
I've been toying with simply having my parry stancing be exclusively on head/legs against monks, I've a feeling it'll work well, but eh.
I don't think monks are OP once you've learned how to cure them, though their damage is a bit wacky ever since the DMP changes, unsure whether their initial damage is still pretty crazy, for instance.
P.S. Missed a few MONK subs.

The "command buffer" effect of aeon/choke/etc. has always been ridiculously unfair and unbalanced. If three attacks for one aeon delay is absurd, how about the eight attacks for one aeon delay that any druid or wiccan can do with passive effects? Try being a blademaster with zero passives and halved active offense against it to see how it feels.
No skill should depend on something as completely OOC and arbitrary as how many commands something takes. And no one should make a system where it does, and then have to consider that when trying to design commands in a way that makes sense, is easy to remember, and is unambiguously parsable. Those OOC concerns should never be overridden by an IC consideration like aeon, but they have to be, over and over and over.
This is one of those things that has been badly-done for so long that everyone assumes it must be all right, since people have been finding ways to work around it or balance in spite of it for years now. But a bad design decision patched with layers of glue and history is still a bad design decision. We still have to consider it when balancing things, when designing user interface elements, and we still run into problems caused by it.

Well, let's review. We have Bianca, who isn't used to the class and is asking some justified questions... and Rika, a typical alarmist.
I feel like addressing the crazy one first, sorry. Rika, how does "monks are overpowered, especially Tahtetso" apply to him using ppk? The only Tahtetso move there is starkick and it did the same thing as kicking normally except it cost him more Ka. Starkick didn't even prone, which is a 50/50.
Bianca, you need to hinder him or shield yourself. Someone using purely ppk/graps will run headlong into shields and have to stop and change katas to something with Tahtai or Skive, which is very slow. Also, if you have the skill, which you might not, you need to stance head. This will negate ppk to the face. If I were a nihilist I would be abusing shackles to stop the monk, non stop. Paralysis also works.
This, too, is part of your problem:
Apostle Celina d'Murani, of Avarice and Greed (Female Undead ---->Faeling<----). Your health is so low you can barely afford to take a single combo. A damage warrior would kill you just as fast, if not faster.

No, the Tahtetso part didn't have to do with the log. It's got to do with the fact that if you compare Shofangi to Tahtetso, Tahtetso would come up on top.
Jack2007-09-20 21:54:55
And obviously being better than Shofangi automatically makes Tahtetso OP, despite the fact Shofangi are widely regarded as underpowered? (Karmic damage boosts nonwithstanding.)

Umm.. yeah, because right now, you will have to consider the karma mantra. Once that is solved, then they won't be OP anymore.

i would like to see blade masters set like monks considering in aeon i can only swing once which is lame. while yes i think monks have alot of balance issues right now -cough- retardo strong never ending grappling.
