I've come up with additional compendiums! The Artisan's, Jeweler's, and Tailor's are currently what I've created, though I will soon have others as I scrounge the finances to have players write books for me. You'll see these books slowly appearing in Attai's fulcrux room.
You don't need to own Excel in order to use the Compendium, as Microsoft has the Excel Viewer available for download for free. I believe OpenOffice can also view and edit Excel documents, which is also free.
Each Compendium is 20 credits. Half-price for members of Glomdoring. First copy free if you are a member of a Daughters' cartel (you will need to provide lists in order to obtain updates.)
Second compendium is 10cr. The last three are 5cr each.
To further give you a taste of the Compendiums, the Daughter's compendium is free in an attachment below.
If you belong to a cartel and are trans in the skill, you can get this for free if you provide information of your cartel's designs.

I bashed my fingers on the keyboard, and it shows.
It's the name of my Lusternian, as well as my WoW character.. though there is a guy in my guild there who keeps insisting on pronouncing it "wim-brinn".

I'm interested! I own the Threads cartel and am also in the Weavers cartel.
I did something similar with tailoring goods.. except I put them all in a journal and it took forever. I'd like to compare notes though.
Plus, it's good advertising for my private cartel goods.

AWSOME. Thanks Kharaen!

But really, that's pretty cool! Thanks!

I want the tailoring one! Especially since I can get it free by virtue of being in the Attai cartel...
Kharaen2007-10-01 20:03:25
Adressing some things that were raised...
If you are buying the compendium, send the credits to Kharaen along with a message saying you gave credits and would like whichever compendiums. Include a messenger toggle or an email so I can send it to you. This is included to people who can get it for free (you are in a cartel of mine or have contributed to the project.)
I am composing a Master Compendium which will list ALL id numbers. It will show what spots seem to be missing in (and this will largely be bookbinding and cooking), and this will be free. The point of the Master Compendium will be to list all designs and prevent 'doubles'. There ARE double designs amazingly (there are two 'a pair of black shoes') and this list available to everyone will hopefully eliminate this. This is also a thing of personal curiosity.
People who contribute to the Compendiums get the compendium they are contributing to for free.
There are two ways to provide information:
A) In game method: You write a book listing trade designs in a specific cartel (one cartel per book please). Kharaen will pay for the price of the book, and give 2500 gold as a thank you for the labour. It's expected that the people who provide books keep them updated. You could either buy a pair of magic books (both of which will be paid for by Kharaen), or you can checkout the book from the fulcrux library in the Attai manse. All books will be placed in this library, so it can also be used as a place of reference for people to browse IN GAME for wares.
The minimum amount of information that these books would require is ID, appearance (name of design), cartel, and materials. No extended description is necessary, so fears of having people copy designs are unfounded.
B) You send an email to me at tanatatalas@hotmail.com with a text file that has the minimum information required as stated in A). Please include character name in this email.
As an aside to Veonira, yes I have been using your site (and Ialie's) as a source for information. It has been tremendously useful for what I haven't already covered in the Scrying Pool, so thank you very much for that site. You qualify automatically (as well as Ialie and Sevz) for a free tailoring compendium. PM me here or in game with your email and it will be sent!

There is now a forger's compendium.
Also, here is the Master Compendium, which is a simple list from 1 - 5000 that lists designs.
Those who have ordered the jeweler's compendium can look forward to an update tonight, thanks to an individual's efforts at providing me with Diamondlight designs.

Don't mind me, just bumping this topic...Suprised there's only one download on the Master Compendium though.

The Master Compendium is rather useless in my opinion, though it is kinda interesting, I guess. (Also, you misspelled "gorgeous" on the first page.)
The others look interesting, and I'm half tempted to buy the Forging Compendium just to know what my blacksmiths are working on all day.

The Master compendium is free for a reason though it is interesting to see what's been submitted in what order, when cartels have been active/dormant, and possible links between trades with certain designs.

HUGE NEW UPDATE!
Firstly, cartel additions:
- Shadowfeast added to the cook's compendium.
- Black Anvil, Ethereal Hammer, Lunarblades, Silverblade, and Silversteel added to the forger's compendium.
Additions to look forward to:
- Bookbinder's compendium.
- Blackpearl for the jeweler's compendium.
- Gourmonds for the cook's compendium.
Price changes:
- Compendiums are now 20 credits. (This includes free updates)
- For each additional compendium that you buy, you get the next at half price up to a minimum of 5 credits. (20, 10, 5...)
- Members of Glomdoring and The Merchant's Guild recieve the compendiums at half-price. (10, 5...)
- Members of a Daughters' cartel may request a compendium for their trade for free.
Now for the huge update! Values in the Info tab (there's an info tab in all compendiums, it's the first spreadsheet in the book) are directly related to the prices of their goods. If you change a value for a comm in the Info tab it will affect the price of the goods that use that comm across the spreadsheet. For those that can only view Excel documents, and not alter them, there is a default pricelist in the Info tab. The cook's compendium is a bit different as there is also a portions value in the info tab. You can specify how many portions you'd like to price for, and it will divide the price of the recipes accordingly. Default portions is set to 1.
I have sent emails to people who've purchased a compendium with the updated compendiums. If I missed you, please contact me and I'll send it to you.

I love the artisan compendium. It's nice to be able to look up designs by cartel, and though it's still lacking information (unless you have good sources, designs from other cartels can be hard to come by!), I've already used it several times as a reference. It's great if your client needs a specific sort of design/item and you can't get it for them... At least you can point them in the right direction!
Thanks very much, Kharaen!

I must say the cook's compendium is rather useful, because it's all laid out in front of you and you don't keep having to do RECIPES BAKING, RECIPES BAKING , no, that has too much grain, RECIPES BAKING... makes the whole thing much simpler when a customer says "OK, I want ten fishcakes, ten of three types of cake, and twenty of the three cheapest platters."
Kudos to the compendium, and Kharaen.

Alright. For those who recall the compendiums (and the ones who bought it, thank you) I would like to resume compiling information for these compendiums. I still have a couple sources I can pull on, but not enough to cover all trades, all cartels, all cities/communes. My offer stands to all trademasters as I originally made it: If you are a cartel trademaster you can receive the compendium for your trade for free, providing you provide specific information on your cartels' designs. Specifically: appearance, cartel it belongs to, design id number, and commodities. I do the rest. You receive the compendium (if you don't already have it) and free updates when others (or yourself) provide information to update it/them.
The compendiums are handy. Not only will they let you know if some idea has already been designed (tired of seeing seemingly repeat designs?), it can also be sorted by cartel, price, or even commodity usage (if you don't want to make a design with corpses, just sort by blank spots!) Prices are not set in stone. If you look on the first page of the compendium, you'll see a list of commodities (and for cooks, servings). Alter these values to whatever you wish, and the prices will change across the board!
These do require Microsoft Excel, or Excel Viewer. I believe OpenOffice is also capable of handling the compendiums, for a free option. Links to Excel Viewer and OpenOffice are provided in the first post.
