Roleplaying and character changes

I really enjoy Lusternia, but lately it's grown a little stale. Conflict is down to almost nothing, Guild advancement is literally non existant, and my roleplay so far is...elite family girl who likes to fight(grows old for me and everyone else). Anyone I meet IC usually treats me like dirt cause they don't like me on forums or something. Not so much fun lately.

So, I have to do a ritual to a demon lord for Guild stuff, and I was going to do it for Gorgulu, the Devourer. Celina relates to him the most. Instead of doing the whole ritual I was going to, over the next few days make Celina start acting a little weird, drifting off all the time, muttering to herself about and endless hunger and always wanting to feed, power and what not. Snapping at people for seemingly nothing. Growing paranoid. Not a whole lot, something she tries to hide and keep under control while she works on this ritual. At the ritual itself she loses it, goes off the deep end and becomes more animal than person. I plan on using the whole Aslaran/Predator/servant of Gorgulu. She becomes obsessed with obtaining power and feasting on her enemies, and really paranoid that people are trying to keep her from obtaining her true desires. It'd take some time to get used to and I'd have to do it in a way that I could still function, but I think it could work. I also wouldn't have to interact with people that just feel like insulting me all the time.

Anyways, I think it could make for some interesting RP, since all I ever do is HEAR about all these cool things happening and I want to actually participate. As it is right now i'm lumped in with the "fighters" and not the RPers.

Ideas? Suggestions? If it's stupid feel free to say so, I'm open to anything.

First of all, it's always cool to see someone thinking through directions for their characters, giving them more depth, making the world a more interesting place, etc.

Second, I like your ideas, and there's a lot of ways it can fit into the Mag atmosphere. The only thing you might want to consider is that your character is on a path to become even more hostile to the world around them, so the IC component of the hostility you feel will probably only rise. If you'd like an opportunity to change that, some things you might consider:

- Will your character develop bonds with people who feed her? I'm thinking of any number of movies or books where you have the wounded, wild animal who doesn't trust people who is won over by food.

- You might envision a way your character could be "cured" and, over time, reveal bits and pieces of this to the people you play with. This could provide a way for others to participate in your RP - almost like a quest in and of itself - and could not only create some good relationships, but provide you an opportunity to make another character change if you wanted, once you were cured.

Anyway, feel free to get me involved, because I'm always up for supporting things like this. I think Xin's your great-uncle, and not being Mag, he might not make for a bad third party to confide in.

As I've mentioned before it's very important to chart this out and come up with quirks and RP that won't get you in serious trouble with people. Random attacking of a citizen once because you were craving for something to feast upon or because he looked at your trophy for a bit too long is fine, you'll get off with a slap on the wirst and/or a fine. But doing it times and times again will get you in trouble so you can't keep it up forever. Unless, for example, you were some invincibe combatant, losing of whom over few devoured serfs would be out of question. In fact, we'd feed you them ourselves then probably! suspicious.gif

Just think of something cool for you to do and relatively easy to upkeep whilst not developing something overly obtrusive and tiresome for others.

Don't forget that you don't always need to do big things to be a roleplayer. It's always the small details people forget -- custom emotes especially. Never be shy to do them!

One of my favorite examples of roleplay actually came from Achaea -- some guy saw a pegasus and pretty much freaked out. He started emoting about petting it, commenting on how soft it was, observing the wings, stuff like that. The little details. Those are the best ways to roleplay.

If one is noticeably racist to a 'normal' species (i.e not Viscanti or Illithoid, fair enough for Celestines), how far would you say that one could take it before it gets obnoxious.
If you want to know why, he hates Lucidan and Trill for the whole Gaudiguch thing

Magnagora's RP has been lacking these days. When I first started playing 2 years ago, Magnagora was an extremely nationalistic, unrelenting and merciless society, and people actively displayed this attitude in their actions and speech. Everyone's RP revolved very strongly around the Empire's well-being. As we were losing our dominance in the world, our RP's focus shifted from the city to our individual guilds. If you dig through the archives you can actually find Daevos' posts where he talked about how the Empire has a rich history yet its culture has not kept up. So now, everyone shifted their attention more to their guilds than the city. Once we had completely lost dominance, especially in influence, demoralization and burnout led many people to leave Magnagora or quit the game, because nobody liked to be on the losing team. The ones that stayed primarily focused their RP on themselves for self-preservation, and sometimes participated in guild activities. The city's overall well-being has been forgotten.

And that is pretty much the state of Magnagora's RP these days: Everyone has their own separate RP, and sometimes chips in for their guilds by hosting rites, ceremonies, etc. Nobody cares for the well-being of the city anymore, except Veo (she's honestly the only person I've seen be proactive about the city's well-being. I'd like to say Murphy also does the same but the only time I've seen him on was when he was drunk, so I dunno).

So, to address your problem Celina, I think you should change your personal RP so that you won't grow bored. At the same time though, I think it is important to try to unify Magnagora under one mentality/ideology again. Having everyone live and fight for a common cause will do the most for Magnagora right now though, even if we may be defeated in every single encounter against the world. That being said, having everyone work towards the same goal is very rewarding, fun, and builds a strong sense of community (back then I knew everyone and interacted a lot with them. Now, I barely know people and I don't really give a crap about them). So the question is, how to unify Magnagora? I'm not sure, I'd have to think about it myself. I think propaganda might help a lot, as well as vocal leaders that people can look up to. Bottom line, if Magnagora can be united again, I think it'll spark a lot of interest and fun for a lot of people.

All of that is really quite a shame, considering that Mag's potential for fantastic RP is so high. Just making a character there and observing the types of denizens Mag has makes me play regularly on an alt there, just for the experience.

But, I don't much like to hang around the Megalith or people in general, because the RP lacks there. It's more fun to mess around with the denizens. People are so focused on themselves and it's like, "What about the Engine?"

Keep in mind though, that the scales tip. When I started playing, Celest was on top; middle of summer, Celest was on bottom, we got raided every night, Thoros was killing 500 guards every week, we had no villages under our influence, and it was never fun to log in, because Mag was on top. But then we got a village and everything basically turned around, after we finally fixed ourselves.

So it's really about the playerbase. I think Celest's roleplay lacks a lot. I mean, it sucks. People there expect us to be Good and soft and snuggly. I dislike people falling out of roleplay (like copying and pasting dreams). Everyone is so focused on getting involved to get an honors line that they completely forget the roleplay. Everything my character does is for the Light; every breath she takes is to better the guild, better Celestia, better understand the Supernals, and bring Celest further into the Light.

I have been pushing for Celest to get some denizens there. We don't really have any one 'fun' denizen to mess with like Mag has. The denizens really make the game (as well as the characters). They are always really good influence. But none of ours are really... involved in daily character lives (like Lain in Mag, the zoo keeper Rheimos, Ghalid who walks around, and all those House denizens in the towers ). I love Mag's coldness -- it's refreshing compared to Celest's zealousness. (and I realize I just admitted to having a Mag alt, but they are newbie status and just for some fun roleplay on the side.)

Also, I like Mag's feel. Old victorian and all - especially with those new lamps. I went around looking at the rooms in Celest... it feels so... modern. I don't really like it. I wish it was a bit different. Every room is basically, 'There is white pavement and the glittering of the pool with some flowers that smell really good.' It gets old.

That was my rant. :| Put shortly, I'd like to see Celest's roleplay be enriched.

You could always walk up to the Magnagoran gates with a cadre of Paladins, and ask politely for a cup of sugar, ask how the whole Engine thing is working out for them, and, 'oh, we're trying to spruce up the Pool of Stars a little bit- do you have any giant, disembodied brains we could borrow?"

Hmm. How about a Ancient Greece/Crusader feel? Also it is a bit easier to get into describing the 'evil' environment. This is why the Inferno was so much better than Paradiso, I think in part. Plus Dante got to put his still living enemies in different circles of Hell. But I digress.

Awesome idea. It has consequences (quote:Murphy's post), but that'll be part of the roleplay. Don't neglect to snap out just because that person's higher than you: you supposedly can't control the feelings.
