I'm sure someone asked about this already, but ah well.
Could there be a feature added where for a certain amount of gold you can make something in your room description probable? Not even something you can move or manipulate or anything. Just probe and examine, you know?
Cause, while working at my ungodly dull job, my imagination turned itself to Noola's manse. And I started thinking about the various rooms I want to add to it. In one of those rooms I want to have a house made of cards sitting on a table. What I want is if someone tries to examine or probe the card house for them to see a tiny figure leaning over and peering at a little card house through one of the windows. Now, obviously I could just include that in the description of the room, but it would make it waaaay long. Plus, that's heading into god-modding kind of territory... after all, maybe they aren't paying much attention at all to the card house?
So... any chance that is possible someday? No hurry though... it's gonna take a while for that room to be built anyway.

It'd be nice for every trade skill to be able to make, I donno, new skill called "Tidbits" (I know it's a really bad name, the other I could think of is "knickknacks".
Artisan: Make small decorations such as what Noola described. Small decoration things with no other purpose than looks.
Herbalists: Candles perhaps.
Forgers: Make metallic decorations. Such as standing candlebra.
Tailors: Table cloths or suchlike.
Jewellery: Silver cutlery?
What would be cool would be enchanters can enchant them to make ambience or action messages.
E.g. 1: Herbalist 1 makes a lavender candle:
Short: A short lavender candle.
Look: A small lavender candle sits here.
Enchanter enchants it with desired, yet restricted, messages (made when designing).
Now you can: LIGHT CANDLE:
Look: A small candle sits here lit with flickering flame.
and occasionally: A waft of lavender drifts through the room. || Flickering candlelight reflect off the walls.
Just an idea off the top of my head...

That is such a neat idea!

This is so awesome, wanted it for a long time, but...
I think you have to pay credits for it (item customization). Ialie's tree in Star Haven gives off an ambiance message every so often (and has Estarra's signature, I think).
But it would be neat to have items you can't normally make permanent, like candles and such, and un-removeable.

Ok let's see
Artisans can already make candleholders and chandeliers. Table cloths and Candelabras would generally be included as part of the description of whatever item they were on.
And any tidbitty items should be for artisans. Sorry, but that's what they do.
What would be cool would be enchanters can enchant them to make ambience or action messages.
no. there were auction artifacts that were sold to allow people to get ambience messages for their manses so they would be likely p... very annoyed.

This would be really cool if darkness had an effect and indoor rooms(manses are indoor so no light problems) were subjected to lighting changes.
However this would be a nice addition to the candle holders if that was implemented.

While those people that have bought manse ambience archways, that's really big isn't it?
Like if you have a manse by the seaside, you might ahve a manseful of seaside sounds and bird calls?
However, what I was driving at was more towards roomwide ambience messages. These are limited and not at all original to the owner. They are, rather than the archways individuality, subject to administrators' approval.
As for artisan's candlebras, what I understand is that they made sconces which is screwed into the walls. I might be wrong, so don't quote me on this one
Besides it might be nice for candles to exist to sit in those candlebras.

Yes, they echo throughout the manse however room abiance is still big especially if you can replicate manse ambiance (objects in every location causing it to throb with power) Also if there are ambient messages they wouldn't be individual you might get to have a candle flickering but it probably wouldn't be specific. All things to do with a craftable item are defined beforehand, if you had an enchantment it would probably be amended to the design file (i.e huge headache to update existing designs or coding it so that items could not have the field)
Another problem is just that then the ambient message becomes a static thing. Flying Death, Sarans pet, does this whole runs around cutesy thing and sometimes it's just not appropriate so it does get annoying. Just think about trying to perform a ritual dousing all light and then your candle starts flickering
Sconces are wall fixtures that are decorative. We have chandeliers too which are Ceiling fixtures that periodically reveal dreamweavers. If you wanted a candelabra on a table then you could probably include that in the design.(If it was a stand alone item that you placed on the table it would be stealable)
One possibility is to allow scones to hold candles that you could light, you put the candle in, light it then while it still exists you periodically see it flicker and the like.
Noola2007-10-17 14:56:24
I don't care one way or another about actual items (though seriously, decorative items would be really nifty! When I got to the actual house part of Noola's manse I'd so totally make an artisan rich if they could make nick-nacks! ) so much as being able to examine or probe something within the description. Like you can for quests and stuff... only it wouldn't be for quests, it'd just be so someone could take a closer look at that house of cards and see themselves looking at a house of cards inside the house of cards, but without forcing them to look at the house of cards if they didn't want to.

Not all of them. Big difference between item message and manse wide message.

Design:
Appearance: A sexy Arin shaped candle
Dropped: Posing with the miniature hand holding the wick, an Arin shaped candle is here.
Examined: Blah!
Enchantable: Flickering lights emulate from the candle.
So made, and if you don't want to enchant it, the enchantable message won't come on at any time and the candle can't be lit.
Once enchanted: LIGHT CANDLE: Appearnce may change to show it's lit. The ambience message echoes once in a while. You can also DOUSE CANDLE.
So annoyance factor, gone.

Thinking about it, here's a revised list:
Artisan: Everything mentioned in the quote. As mentioned before, it's their job.
Herbalists: Potpouri (spelling?). Just a mixture of dried herbs that give off a scent in the room once in awhile. It can be like a candle. You can UNLID POTPOURI to start the scent and LID POTPOURI to stop it.
Forgers: Horse shoes. Basic decorative item that you can put on the wall.
Tailors and jewellers I can't really see as having room for items like this, though.

Why enchant then? it seems an unnecessary step
Arin2007-10-22 09:38:35
Because enchanting gives it the ambience message.
