Just read Penny-Arcade and they pointed this out. Wonder who's interested buying this?

Details are seen here

Well, I watched a documentary about 'odd homes' and one of the homes in the movie was where this couple had bought an old missile base and refit it to live in. Their home was underground in the bunker/control room part and they used the silos as storage. It was pretty cool actually. And I suppose if one couple could do it, there's no reason someone else might not want to.

Of course, the base had been out of use for years and there weren't any missles or anything. Really, it was just a big ol chunk of land with most of its buildings underground. I kinda wanted one after I saw theirs! laugh.gif

Actually.

I used to live near an abandoned missle base. And it was for sale by private owners. Although this is probably a hoax, I know through my own experience it is possible.

A newspaper site from the midwest has a "portal" dedicated to Missle Silos.

Most of the stories seem to discuss a famous case this decade where the DEA raided and arrested somebody who turned the silo into an LSD factory in Wamego, KS. blink.gif

Not a prank, not a hoax.

The website is registered to Lynette Hotchkiss of California. Bari is presumably her husband. The phone contact is a California area code.

And they've expressed interest in selling it elsewhere.

Wrong.

And I saw this as well after Penny Arcade put up a thing about it, I'd love to buy it and restore it. There's a neat map of it on ebay, the complex just looks huge.

I want. Anyone have a few million dollars to lend me?

I concur. The stuff you could do with a place like that... I especially like the 50-ton, hydraulic skylight idea. Perhaps you could build some kind of storage that goes into and out of the silo to use as, say, a garage. That way your cars (if you've got $1.5M to blow on this, you've got more than one) will survive a nuclear explosion.
