Winamp is completely spazzing on me. Overnight, without changing anything, it's decided to just do that XP "needs to close, send/don't send error report" BS and occasionally sticks itself in a loop of playing the same notes over and over (and refuses to close even with ctrl+alt+delete.)

Simple fixes like rebooting and updating to the latest version don't seem to be working, and there doesn't seem to be anything on the help forums.

So can anyone recommend me a programme that does all the basic stuff winamp does (plays all the music on this easily-sortable playlist) without crashing so much?

On Windows, I use iTunes.

I use iTunes as well.

However, you aren't going to get any cool skins for it like winamp does, and iTunes also uses up more memory. So if your computer isn't that great, and you want to do a lot of things while you're listening to music, iTunes might not be the best.

However, it is very easily sortable on many different levels, has an easy drag and drop way of making playlists, and the online store is handy for searching for music or podcasts, even if you don't intend on actually buying the song, you can still listen to samples of bands you like, or might like.

I like using windows media and VlC , it does both video and audio.

I dunno if I "do a lot of things"...I only have 17 windows up right now. The skins don't matter much.

I figured more out about the problem: it seems to crash occasionally when it changes tracks. Damn programme.

I don't listen to bands much, incidentally, just remixes and stuff from OSTs.

EDIT: What's VLC?

foobar2000. Possibly the most customisable player ever. Tiny footprint out of the box too. It's worse than WoW addons, I spend more time tweaking it than I spend actually listening to music.

Also, nothing stays open after you end it with the Task Manager. Use End Process on the Processes tab.

VLC is amazing for playing DVD and video files. Never used it for music, though.

Fixing your rig so applications don't crash would be a better way to go.

I actually quite like using the Media Player too. In the latest version it never crashed nor spazzed, and it looks pretty. biggrin.gif
And VLC really is better for movies, it seems to lack some stuff for music like random-play, might be wrong though.

The only feature I like about VLC over MPC is how it fails to run DVobSub and can't read some of the subtitle formats that DVobSub can, which is actually more of a lack of a feature. It's handy when I've VERY LEGALLY downloaded a series pack with foreign subtitles and don't want them to show without changing any settings in dvobsub (since, for example, subtitles are useful when watching subbed anime) or changing the sub setting every time the file changes (which is annoying when I don't intend to get up from the sofa all Sunday afternoon).
