I realise that this has probably been answered a million times, but I see all these interesting new names for characters and my head begins to spin. I think I need a direct answer from some of you knowledgeable people.
Now, while I'm an utter newbie to Lusternia, I'm a seasoned veteran of Imperian. Over there, higher level bashing is all about the crits and how fast you can get them and I was wondering if it's the same principle here.
Now, my only stipulation is that I can be in a Magnoran citizen and in one of their guilds as I wish to be able to play with the friend who told me to roll a character here. Having said that, please tell me your thoughts and opinions on what the best race/class/specialisation/gender/height/eyecoloured... you get the idea. The more info the better please.
Please note, I don't intend to purchase any credits with this character as I feel that since the credit market is ridiculously cheap (half what it's going for on Imperian) so every skill I need to trans is one I need to bash up first.
With that, I leave you. On with the bashing info!

You can bash well as pretty much anything other than guardian (and you can still bash as a guardian, it's just not quite as good). There isn't really a superior bashing class here, although monks are really good at high levels but Magnagora doesn't have their monks yet.
Murphy2007-10-18 02:24:45
Mages aren't bad, their staff does extra damage and whatnot but they can get squishy.
Bards are decent too with their damage and extra songs.
If you want to be tanky though and still do well, get yourself a decent str/con warrior and go bonecrusher or blademaster, and get the fastest weapons (280 speed, the damage stat doesn't matter in bashing) and go nuts. Surge is really helpful, and the damage mitigation you'll get will be good too.
If you're not getting surge in athletics for a while (it's near trans so it'll probably take you a bit unless you buy ooc credits) then maybe orclach would be a decent race for you, tanky with good strength and good resistances, just stay away from mobs that hit with fire.

A mugwump nihilist with putrefaction is probably one of the best bashing classes in the game. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what the they are talking about.
^_____^
After that, I'd say Mugwump cacophony. (trans resilience needed obviously, absortion rune, trans acrobatics)

Would Orchlach be the only race suitable for an ur'Guard? I love the idea behind the guild and the skills are incredibly appealing.
Also, I'm a little.. Well, more than a little unknowledgeable between the whole blademaster/pureblade or whatever they are. Can someone explain them to me please?
Murphy2007-10-18 02:39:41
God no, i suggested orclach cause i used it to bash. These are all decent warriors for varying reasons: krokani aslaran loboshigaru orclach igasho taurian viscanti
I don't like slow balance myself, but igasho is popular due to the less damage you'll take and the massive con. Aslaran's are squishy but fast with good int, and the list goes on. Warrior bashing damage is a product of strength and speed, as a warrior in magnagora you'll also get putrefaction which is a pretty decent damage reducer, and fullplate which helps greatly too.
Blademaster = duel wield swords
Pureblade = wield one big sword
Axelord = wield one big mace
Bonecrusher = duel wield blunt object with which to destroy all in your path
blademaster/bonecrusher are better for bashing slightly, because of the extra crits

Ahh, I see, I see. So I should find a race that I can enjoy roleplaying as, with good strength and speed as well as Con if I can manage it. Roger that. I like the sound of Bonecrusher. In Imperian there's not a single person who actually uses blunt weapons, so I believe I'll be going that for the novelty of it. Thankyou for your help!
Murphy2007-10-18 03:02:47
I've been a bonecrusher for a long long time. I'm selling up my weapons though and going monk when we get them. You'll enjoy it.

I don't know what Balizar is smoking, but I want some. Nihilists have horrible damage output compared to other classes. Even as mugwumps astrologers, we are last luster bashers. There are much much much better choices available if that is your main focus.
Pentu2007-10-18 03:39:51
Nihilist symbol is at least as good as a cudgel, faster, and you get more damage reduction. So at least you're better off than druids!
Murphy2007-10-18 04:07:39
I remember as an aslaran nihilist with putre I was pretty damn tanky, and i killed things relitavley quickly. I did have the right symbol, a tome, putre lvl 2 health regen artie so i suppose that helped a lot

Like I said, if you say otherwise, you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Ildaudid2007-10-18 05:03:53
Yeah Thoros did fine as a nihilist bashing too. I don't think it is really crappy as a bashing race, especially with the defenses, but now with the DMP changes added in, they may be alot squishier.
If you want warrior go BC, simply because when its time for you to get into PvP, nothing tops a BC in the warrior archetype. Especially if you don't plan on investing a ton of money into credits. They get great low end stun and knockdown attacks, which are not too high up in their skill lists, and I don't remember how high up windpipe is, but nothing tops being able to smash people and potentially softlock them in 1-2 combos every time.
Also since you will be wielding 2 weapons, you will have the chance to double afflicted with two venoms each combo, unlike PB's (which I am) or AL's who only have the chance of 1 venom affliction per attack.
If you want, pick a decent race to get you started, maybe even Aslaran, but they are squishy, yet will give you even quicker speed. And then about level 70-80 switch to human (you get one free reincarnation). Humans evolve here and every 5 levels after level 50 they get a stat point increase, now this all in all isn't the best thing, what is nice is that you get an exp bonus as a human, and if you combine that with the karma blessing harmony, and also possibly summer exp boost (in low magic) which can be used 1 time a IG month, you can get a pretty nice exp % boost. Which well help you level quicker.
I personally like Aslarans, Krokani's and Orclachs. Look for things like cutting and blunt resistance and also for magic resistances. Be careful on the race if it has a magic weakness, since if your not high up in the magic skillset, it could make you very easy prey for the magical kills that cosmics and wiccans can pull on you quickly. If you choose warrior do not go Illithoid, they personally suck as a warrior. I saw my damage go from 1800 to 800 when I changed to Illithoid for a bit, it was too depressing to be considered viable warrior material.
But like Murph said, high str, high con, and anything like speed bonuses, cutting/blunt/magical resistances should all be considered while choosing a race for a warrior. Also know that warriors here do not do damage normally, they have been weened into wounding warriors, and your kills (well in PvP that is) are normally a build up of wounds. That is not to say there are not a couple damage warriors here, but they are few and are artied out to get decent damage. But for bashing that is not a problem, only for PvP will wounding be your main focus.
Choose necromancy for the skills, especially since low end hunting/tracking are downright dumb and useless unless you want to collect chickens or stuff. Tracking has no damage resistant skills in the whole skillset, so if you choose Mag and Ur'Guard, Necromancy will be the best bet for you. You will at least end up with some defenses in the Rituals/Necromacy skillset.

Symbol and mage staff have the same damage output in PvE. So not really.

Well sir, I must say that is quite the dubious statement. Do you have any evidence to support your preposterous claim?

It is, actually. Confirmed by admins.

More specifically, Morgfyre said so.
So I guess I retract my statement about guardians being bad bashers.
