Best. Gameplay element. Ever.

This was a triumph.

Yeah... that's what I said. I was just hoping I wasn't the only one not to know what it was.

Haven't played the proper one, but I played through the flash 2D version yesterday.

This song makes the end so worth it along with the robot.

That's the only game that can compete with The Fall of Max Payne for the best endgame credits soundtrack.
Verithrax2007-10-23 19:38:00
Because I can't find anything similar on the web.

I've had that song stuck in my head ever since you linked to it in the YouTube thread. I love it, but it won't stop looping in my brain.
And I completed the Flash Version yesterday, and I wish I had the real version.

I got all the way to level 38 of the flash one before I realised you could pick things up... doh!
Ooh nice tune, heh and funny lyrics. Might have to get the Valve 3D version of this, I am hearing good things about it, from many different sources.

How did you possibly manage to get that far without using F? o.O Getting boxes to stay through the portal rather than falling back through must have been a nightmare.

With great difficulty on the later levels. Anytime a box needed to be on a trigger, I created a portal above it and pushed the box so it fell through that portal onto the trigger. It wasn't until level 38 where it was just not possible to get the boxes on those three triggers that I finally realised something was terribly wrong. Googled it and discovered the F key! Serves me rigth for going "ASDW, yadadada..." I don't need to read this! *skip*

It did say in the instructions on what of the early levels. Read the manual, dude.
Unknown2007-10-23 22:48:10
what sort of a gamer reads an instruction manual?

I think the greatness of portal comes from not knowing anything about it when you first play.
I think that as people play it because they hear about it, the game will greatly lose appeal.
However, I think PennyArcade allready dubbed it a game within the new genre of First Person Puzzle Solver Comedy.

It's not even a manual. It's just a little "This button does this" thing at the top of the screen when you get onto that level.

It was a good game, I beat in in maybe an hour and a half though.
Was too easy IMO!
Edit: To be more clear, there weren't any times where I couldn't figure out how to do a task, and had to really hunker down and think about it. It was all about just aiming right and not accidentally stepping off a platform etc. for me...

Only place I got stuck was level 18 cause I didn't notice the button up in the sky.
Otherwise I agree. Which is why I say the best part of the game was not knowing much about it, and the great comedy/exploration/feeling of mystery.
Oh, and the slides on the projectors were hillarious!
