So this week NBC is doing all things 'green' (i.e. environmentally friendly). Most of their programming is going to feature something eco-minded, from their news casts to their soap operas to their prime time TV shows. The Today show this morning featured three of its news anchors simultaneously in three corners of the globe (arctic circle, antarctica, the equator). I watched it this morning and I thought it was pretty cool, it's certainly different and much larger than anything news media has attempted to do before.

What does it really mean though? Is it just someone else latching onto the recent 'trend' of "global climate change" and looking for some ratings, or are they trying to start something more?

Is this actually going to raise the average joe's awareness of their impact on the earth and encourage them to make changes in their consumption?

Personally, I feel it's a good step, but I don't know why this sort of thing is limited to one week. If people are going to be urged to live more eco-friendly lifestyles, they're going to need more than just a crash course.

And what if NBC continues to tout itself as the 'green' network? Would it draw you, as a viewer, or as an advertiser?

I recently did some flash work for this website.

Its just gimmicky stuff, which the people who run it hope will have the nice side affect of making people "more aware." (atleast that is the case with the people running the go green with all campaign.)

If you watch this week's episode of chuck, they make some cute refrences to "taking advantage of the public's new consciousness to help boost sales."
