Rodngar2007-11-08 04:03:25
I think I've found my problem - I want to change classes, possibly. I want to bring Rodngar to the Paladins (he has no strikes against him, I'm not sure on the process of getting in).. but regardless. I have (INCOMING SPAM, SORRY):
If I calculate this right, I can eek out Transcendant in any specialization, plus high in Athletics (maybe even trans, I have some lessons laying around), plus some lessons in to Rituals to hit Sacraments. Now, I played a Warrior before as Rodngar - he was a Serenguard Elfen Lord with the Blademaster spec. I found it mildly fun (and against somebody of my ridiculously low skill level at the time, I managed to win with a terribly primitive version of what Caedryn taught me was a slitlock) - but I also recognize that it is supposedly the weakest specialization.
Now, my question is, for PvP/Arena combat/etc etc.. what is the preferable spec? I'm very interested in Bonecrusher and all the information I'd need to learn how to fight as one - including what weapons to go for. That, however, is more of a minority question to what I'm here to ask:
What race? I have yet to reincarnate. My idea was Aslaran or Merian, but I'd like to hear the opinions out there on what would work best.
Also, is Forging worth learning so I don't have to bother somebody else to make me my masterweapons? I can afford to learn it somewhere down the line this month, but I'm cautious about investing in it until I understand if it's worth anything right now.

Forging is good, it'll give you fullplate and make it easier to keep the dwarven runes on your weapons (you etch on coal runes, +10 to all stats lasts a RL day or so)
Plus the ability to forge your own weapons means you can get that very top set of stats you are after, rather than paying someone else to forge for 30 hours you can do it yourself.
As a bonecrusher, I would reccomend krokani or aslaran. I've been both, i prefer krokani more but aslaran has it's benefits in terms of speed, but krokani are much tankier, more con more str and a nice lvl3 magic resist to fight those damn bards with.
In terms of weapons, either high precision morningstars or hammers. A hammer you want lowest possible damage, >200 precision and >200 speed. They are very hard to come across. I've got my 220 precision hammers for sale at the moment and they also have about 210 speed or so on them, but good luck forging them. I'm pretty certain the odds are close to impossible to get. Morningstars you want >230 precision with as much speed as you can get on them. (around 150-160 i think is the target, i don't use them).

Taurian would also be a solid race choice, particularly if Krokani's INT is a bit too low for your tastes. Merian wouldn't be bad either, though anyone with artied weapons almost always has fire or lightning, so you'll be feeling extra hurt from them.
With forging, it's more a matter of considering all the time you would spend at the forge, and if you'd rather be off doing something else instead and leave it in the hands of another. This is more difficult to gauge now with the recent change to forging time, but I think it's safe to say that forging for yourself would be a very good idea (forging for others, eh... your choice!).
If you're patient, don't want to make the credit investment to trans forging, and can find a suc... er, generous person who won't charge extensively for labor, you might pass.

Or just buy my hammers off me. 500 CR for both of them, and they are virtually impossible to forge meaning you're really getting more than you would if you bought hammers and put arties on them.

Shameless
He will need rune them so they dont poof but wow thats alot of credits O_o

they have at least 250 months on them, but 250 cr each for something that simply cannot be forged anymore isn't bad.
Always open to anyone's offers (think about it though, 300cr for trans forging, plus the 2RL months you'll need to spend forging to get the stats, definitley worth it to me)

First off, thank you Murphy (and everybody else!). That was a really good bit of answers to my questions, but it brings up some more.. so, let me ask it this way:
Blademaster and Bonecrusher look like they have more of a control over afflictions because they can continue to hammer at the same place. You can set up multiple limbs and areas, etc. However, I don't see their damage as incredibly high. Maybe I haven't fought any skilled ones (though, I think it's Thoros? who practically four-shot me because I didn't pop hyperactive fast enough and didn't have any stancing up at that point) - but they don't really hurt that much.
However, Pureblade and Axelord look like they have a powerful damage output due to the fact that it has to be made up for their lack of speed. This leads me to assume that they can stack wounds better because there's the danger of death if you do not sip (and I'm sure sparkle and most regeneration levels can't entirely heal through some output of a Pureblade or Axelord). This brings it's own level of control , but not through wounds.
Am I correct in these assumptions?
Also, is balance bonus really an incredibly powerful component in Knight combat? I know it is for most balance classes in Imperian and Aetolia - speed kills, after all. I recognize that an Aslaran may have a troublesome time handling people with flame runes - what about the herb and elixer penalty? Is it terribly debilitating? I played an Akrabi very competently in Imperian - the race has a sip penalty of 10%, and I never saw too much of a problem. I heard, also, that levels of bonus/malice here are only 7% or so - is that true?
My next big question: how do Bonecrushers really kill? Axelords? Pureblades? I believe I've ruled out Blademaster - I liked them, but it doesn't interest me as much anymore.
Another I just thought of: is my Trans combat going to help any more than it does as a Monk?

Mostly correct, but as wound affs stack, even the weakest hits will start to hurt, so just keep that in mind and we'll be peachy

Balance bonuses for knights are very helpful across all IRE's, but Lusternia makes certain normal balance races extremely viable as well, just steer clear from the really slow guys (tae'dae, etc). The herb and elixir penalty isn't that bad assuming you are careful and know when to go on the defense. Unsure on the 7% or whatever.QUOTE

BC's kill via brainbashing, usually via the their myriad of stun and low wound req knockdown, Axelords kill via their knockdown and slitthroat/behead, or Execute. Pureblades are similar, but I don't have much experience with them. Trans combat helps a lot, plus trans combat gives you more maneuvers.
Krellan2007-11-08 22:23:36
axelords can't behead loser. THey can execute for their insta kill. PB's get decapitation like BM's but also have a 5 power judgement/chasm like insta kill.
Unknown2007-11-08 22:26:09
Both PB and AL can Behead, Krellan. Decapitate -is- the timed instakill.

Okay, to put my malice question more in to terms I'd work with: is the penalty noticable?
Also, what about Loboshigaru? Are they viable as a knight?

Sure, they're tanky. Though you're looking at less strength than you would have with other races.
Rodngar2007-11-08 22:55:24
What about Humans? I can't find anything about them, regarding stat growth in any Archetype - which makes me nervous. Also, reincarnating in to Human gives me retoactive bonuses, yes? So I don't lose any possible stat points for not being one at 50 and on (64, now, for my current level)?
Unknown2007-11-08 23:09:00
High level humans are awesome warriors (also good bashers, go go level 2 exp bonus), and yes, the evolution applies retroactively, the moment you switch, you get the +stats applicable to your level. I don't think they're too hot until you hit about 80+ however.
Since you're celestian, might want to look into Merian Lords too.

Unknown2007-11-08 23:10:37
Humans are an incredible race, suitable for pretty much any Archetype. Human Warriors tend to work out pretty well, though you'll want to get at least level 80 for a suitable stat-spread.
And yes, you'll get the bonuses for all levels you've past after 50.

Rodngar2007-11-08 23:14:05
Do you know, perhaps, what the spread/gain is for a Human Warrior? Or is that not.. uh.. available information?
Unknown2007-11-08 23:36:48
As an undeffed level 94 human warrior with a TF, I have 16 str, 15 dex, 16 con, 14 int, 13 size, 14 cha.
Rodngar2007-11-09 00:00:25
So ideally, what would be my racial choice as a Warrior, then? Aslaran, Merian, Human, or Krokani, I guess? And if so, ranked how? There's a certain aesthetic tweak I have that I can't get over, but I'm also a 'powerplayer' when it comes to PK efficiency - I'll balance the two out, obviously.
