Did anyone else notice that the editor recently changes your 'won't' into a 'wont' for example? I thought at first this was cmud so I switched to nexus and tried to make the post. Same result.

Anyone know if something was changed? I have no clue anymore how to make decent posts, it always looks like I'm lazy at spelling and such. confused.gif

EDIT: To clarify. The issue is that the ' symbols -used- to work for posts.. now they simply don't anymore. Anyone know why or experienced the same?

Are you copying and pasting from a Mircosoft word program type thing? I've always had that problem when using something I've written on Wordperfect and pasting it into the editor.

Use notepad as a base. Copy to Wordperfect to check for errors. Edit errors in notepad. Paste from notepad, ensuring that each paragraph is on one line.

Seems to work for me. I know that sometimes the ' character can get replaced with `, which doesn't work and perhaps doesn't come up. Not sure what I can suggest though, but it does work.

Yeah, if you use Word, that's the problem. Word replaces all your apostropies and quotations with silly little slanty apostrophies and round quotations and the news editor doens't work with those so it takes them out and then you have no apostrophes or quotations. If you remember to turn off the feature in Word that changes your apostrophes and quotations then you can use Word all you like though.

Yeah, I think it's the same reason some people have weird symbols in their bardics.

Though I haven't used word in a while, I think the option for disabling that is in one of the tabs in the options box that shows up if you go to Tools->Autocorrect. It's probably different if you're using 2007, though. I don't have much experience with that.
Daganev2007-11-08 17:36:32
I have to deal with that crap almost every day.

The worst part is that once they are in there you can't get rid of them without a find and replace....

They always screw up my xml feeds.

The entire CMUD help system was broken temporarily by a guru thanks to this same problem. I highly recommend turning the AutoCorrect (or whatever they're called) stuff off.

I know in some editors (at least in my experience) you can just copy the apostrophes/whatever troublesome character and do a find and replace for the entire document and just type in the new apostrophe as the thing to replace. You have to make sure you do that for the ellipsis word makes, the -'s, and then ' , "

The easy solution is to avoid mixing advanced text editors with basic text editors. Do not try to copy from Word to a basic text edit, there will always be some things that don't work correctly. Word is an amazing editor, and the text is designed to look better on the page. It doesn't go well to anything else, though, except other "advanced" text editors that support some formatting.

Word formatting can also cause a slew of other problems for the Lusternia editor. It's best to just write everything you want in Notepad with word wrap on to see how it works, then turn word wrap off when you're done and copy and paste (in Nexus) or using the Send Text function in zMUD.

I like using Word (at work) and Works (at home where I don't have Word) to write things because I'm a HORRIBLE speller and my grasp of grammar isn't great either. I use them to make sure I'm not making any goofy errors. Plus, I have to use them when I do a design for tradeskills cause of the stupid, stupid rule about using British spelling. Cause, I'm not British and except for the fact that there seems to be a lot of extra U's in words, I don't really know how the British spell things. laugh.gif But Word/Works does! laugh.gif I just turn off those auto-features like curvy quotes and dashes and apostrophes and so on and it works fine.

yes, always paste into notepad or some other simple text editor before pasting into lusternia.

There are ways to make word work like as imple text editor but its more pain than it is worth.

I don't think just pasting into notepad will fix it, though I haven't checked. Saving as plain text doesn't remove it, and pasting into notepad will keep the curly quotes. I didn't try saving and re-opening to see if it saved that way, though.

At work I do that, and then I see all the broken chars. But I use EditPlus, not notepad since it does XML syntax checking.
