Given that the IRC channel is not mentioned on the website anymore, thanks to the good efforts (read: Baseless assertions) of Tully, and the only way for people to find out about it is through word of mouth and a couple of signatures, it seems high time to start actually mentioning our existence. Too many's a crowd, but in the last few months we've gone from maybe twelve to fifteen people around at most times, to four. Four. And it's getting lonely.
The server is irc.deathwyrm.net, and the channel is #Lusternia. To access the chan, all you need is an IRC client and the ability to get it set up, which shouldn't be too difficult, provided you read the basic documentation. You could use mIRC or Trillian on a PC, or Colloquy on a Mac. Of course, there are many others, but those are some of the most popular.
So, if you're interested, come along, and don't act like a twit, and you should be fine. We're not very heavily moderated, and you can talk about most whatever you want. Philosophy, your neighbour's taste in heavy metal, or even Lusternia. Just don't swear too much. That OpServ's a nasty one.
EDIT: You can also use Opera or Firefox to connect.

AMAZING.

The URL to jump right there, using a browser that does integral IRC like Opera, is: irc://irc.deathwyrm.net:9000/Lusternia.

Instructions for dummies on how to get there using trillian is in my sig. Technically I use mIRC to get in now, but I'm not sure how to do it, I just hit buttons until it works....
Arix2007-11-11 22:44:20
I use Trillian as well

Just a correction there, since you decided to take a shot at me while promoting it.
I had no direct action on removing the site. I had a bad time watching people act "two-faced", that is, being nice here and speaking nastily on IRC about the admin or the game, so I ended up exploding on the forums, and swore off it, because it gave me a bad feeling. I don't care what other stuff happened, and I'm sure it is akin to a positive for other people.
The main concern I had and reported to the admin, was the fact that at the time, the former Hajamin, aka Joe Monk or "Baram", was fired from IRE, and certain people decided they would promote his then rival game Ilyrias. So I felt--and I observed this--that it was bad form. I felt the people using that channel were ungrateful, allowing somebody who was fired from IRE to remain on that channel, and was disappointed nobody reported that sub-rosa campaign before me. And yes, while I don't have logs, I remember Joe making some veiled insults towards Estarra and others. It is really bad when Lusternia rewards you with a link and you end up spitting on that gift. Why did you guys allow him to be there, or allow that same server to host the competing IRC room? There were a few people in there who seemed to care more about their OOC cliques and wanted as much of the player base to move to the competing MUD as well.
It would have been stupid for IRE not to do anything--and I have a feeling regardless of whether or not how tight he was with Matt, Ilyrias was shut down mostly because he was doing stuff like that. (I'm really surprised there was no non-compete clause or non-solicitation clause in his contract--that behavior usually not considered ethical in most business, which is why those contracts exist). I consider that to be a real-world application of Karma
But, let's get this straight--all I did was rant once about this on-line, and send a note to them about those shenanigans, and I got over it. It was the Lusternia admin who decided to take it down, and it is likely they did their own investigations. Or maybe they were concerned that it could have a negative effect on player's experiences like it did on me. So, blaming me for the IRC's disappearance is disingenuous.
If you want it back, maybe discuss with the admin, or agree to have a monitored or official IRC supported by IRE that would allow them to monitor it. Or maybe they feel allowing links to such environments doesn't support the game well. I don't know. Take it up with the admin.

I really think you're somewhat clueless as to how IRC servers work, in general. That's a public server. It's hosted by someone who doesn't play Lusternia, or any Iron Realms game at all. This person has never been into any of the IRE game channels that I know of.
The original server was also a public server. It was moved off of because it was having major issues, another was available, it was suggested, and people moved there. *Neither* of them were official servers. They were merely channels where people gathered to discuss Lusternia, and some other IRE games as well. People discuss good and bad aspects of the game on the forums-- they do on IRC as well. The admin don't really get the feedback on IRC, but they aren't really looking for more feedback than they're getting from the forums anyways, it seems.

What shenanigans, Phred? You're repeating the same pointless lie you were spreading last time, because some people made a handful of slightly off-colour jokes about Dramatics. And then we posted logs on that thread for the sake of full disclosure! How is that two-faced?
You and I both know that channel wasn't being used to "promote" Ilyrias, although it did crop up in discussion now and then. You just have something against it, for some reason; people talk all the time in that channel about other games, but you apparently think that if it's used for anything other than talking about how wonderful Lusternia is, then it's "spitting" on the "gift" of a link on Lusternia's website.
Acrune2007-11-11 23:23:47
It is pretty much your fault the room died though, and if you didn't throw such a selfish, whiny tantrum for no good reason (certainly not one anyone else cared about) it would likely still be an interesting place to go chat. To expect us to throw Baram out of the lusternia room/server is about as reasonable as forum banning people who don't play anymore.
Veonira2007-11-12 00:08:23
maybe it is time to make my IRC comeback
Yrael2007-11-12 00:10:48
Tully: Ungrateful? Jesus. Should we start begging Estarra wfor hugs and cuddles? It's a game, not a religion. They got linked, you complained because someone who wasn't perfectly complimentry of Lusternia was there who had some history with the game. You're not the owner of the room, and just because it bears the title of "#lusternia" doesn't mean it has to be hunky dory and everything perfect, with bunnies and flowers. Baram's there, the owner of the server and the owner of the room didn't want to kick him out. Even the damn Carnival is more active than that place on the rare occasion I log into the IRCroom anymore, and that's saying something. (ALthough the Carnival has had a bit of a resurgence since people became invite happy. Seeing up to twelve people is amazing.)
INcidently, I'm curious. What's next on your "Hey, I can whinge" list? Perhaps the forums themselves? I mean, hell, Rodnagar (Or whatever his name is) doesn't seem to like the admins. I'm not that fond of them myself, for that matter and I'd imagine it's vice versa. Oh noes, I'm posting. Quick, ban me, Rodnagar, everyone else who doesn't approve of everything the administration does unconditionally (Remember all the karma sigs? Better look up people with those and start removing them too) or nuke all mention of the forums. You know. Since we're ungrateful if we don't.

Right, it's a game. I have no objection to IRC in general. I only explained why I personally stopped going there. But as this is first and foremost a game, and not a private chat room, Lusternia can decide what to link to if it's "unofficial" or not.I do think it is possible to be "ungrateful" to the people running the MUD. I know people think I'm some kind of "suck ass" or something, but I just really enjoy having a chance to role-play here. If others feel differently, that's fine, but sometimes too much unfiltered ranting can leave a bad taste in one's mouth.

No--I complained that a former admin who left Lusternia under acrimonious circumstances was using that forum (along with a few sympathetic players, one of which was assistant admin to the IRC and had mod privileges) to actively compete with Lusternia while Lusternia called it their "official IRC room" (if I remember correctly), probably not even aware what was going on.
I don't see why you guys don't understand how insulting that could be.

I've got no problem with criticism. But you do know there are limits here. Personal insults are not tolerated, for instance, you can cross the line and be banned or warned. I also believe you can be critical without having to be insulting, for instance.
Rather than aiming all this blame at me, why not ask an Admin to join you in IRC, or make efforts to see if you can get recognized again.
Acrune2007-11-12 00:55:56
The admin are welcome to join us if they want to, but, if I recall, they're not allowed to.
We're not going to ask to be admin moderated because its unneeded and unwanted.
I'll probably email support eventually, but hopefully Estarra will read this thread and decide to add it back, since when it was active, it really added to my enjoyment of lusternia, helped me make friend with other people who played that I normally wouldn't have interacted with much, and, because of the friendships, I'm still here playing the game. Which is what the admins want, right?

The idea of being "ungrateful" to Estarra is rather amusing - it'd be valid if Lusternia were free, but most of us are paying customers. We've already given them our money, so we expect something back for it.

Not with what credits cost. A trans skill here is several monthly payments to any other online game. We expect something back. Well, most of us. You can feel things are ungrateful all you like - my credit card, on the other hand, is all the encouragement I need not to.

Wow! I smell.. bull:censor:. That's good cooking! Let's see. That sympathetic mod? That's right, she originally set up the room on the server and is friends ()as in, the same geophysical location) with the owner of the server! Who also played at once point, if I remember, but only briefly). And to actively compete? Yes, because mentioning something that isn't Lusternia in that room is obviously competition. It wasn't referred to as an "official room" at any point by him. You chucked a bitchfit because he wasn't banned for grumbling about being fired, then mentioning at any point that he had a game based on Lusternia. Or the Rapture engine, whatever it was. Christ. There's another room on the same server (before that game tanked, anyway. I didn't pay any attention to it) for that game.

No, not really, to the warnings. I've never gotten a warning for what I say here except "Yrael, watch your language" in an edited post, and while Richter is certainly spinning tales and telling me it's at 95%, it's certainly not sitting on 0. Except that in this case, Tully, regardless of what I say, you'll take it as insulting. So why should I sugarcoat it?

Ha-ha-ha. I remember several people being kickbanned because they didn't treat the gods the same way they did IC. And why? Oh, that's right - because it's your fault in the first place for blatantly exaggerating every fact.

Not that I log in there much, anymore. There just isn't any point. It's a few older players who don't bother to speak. New blood doesn't seem to stay long.
Reiha2007-11-12 05:51:18
If I pay a couple thousand, or a few hundred a year, I can't complain when I'm feeling rightfully or unrightfully angry? Sheesh I dunno if it's being two-faced when people and moan, but I complain about my sister when she makes me angry, yet I still love her to death. Same with Lusternia and its admins and players. Well, I don't love them like family per se, and there's one or two people I never want to talk to because the harassment from them was too much, but... we all need to vent, and Lack of Rants can be restricting for some.
But I don't see how this is really Tully's fault. He had a valid point about a game's website providing a link to a chat room where, on occassion, bad was said about the game and admin? It's like Feministing.com perma-linking www.menarebetterthanwomen.com. A little odd
(But this thread has made me want to make an account, but last time I tried, I just remember getting frustrated and going to bed )

Bad things are occasionally said about Lusternia here, too. Why shouldn't we remoe them, by Tully's and your logic? Or is the fact there are a pack of admins riding herd a redeeming feature now?
Arix2007-11-12 06:11:29
This thread is to inform people of the Lusternia chat room, not to bitch at Tully, or for Tully to bitch about IRC. It's for the people who play Lusternia to chat with each other, but you don't have to talk only about Lusternia.
