So I wanted to give a formal greeting to everyone as well as ask a few questions which might be stupid...
Name is Black Dragon. I have just created a character in Lusternia called Synner. (Was the first thing that came to mind. If you have any better suggestions on a name let me know. I am trying to think of a better one right now as well.) He is a Ninjakari monk. I picked the Ninjakari because in Aetolia I played Sentaari and really enjoyed it. I decided to give it a try here as a monk due to the fact that I have read a number of posts that state that monks here and the monks in Aetolia and Achaea are completely different. Also, I am use to playing good or Light or in Aetolia's case now...pro-life. Decided to try the opposite here. Another contributor is that in the posts I have read in these forums...it seems like Magnagora is the under dog right now and I like a good challenge. So that is a bit about me.
Now a couple of questions for anyone who has the time. They are not vitality important and I can probably figure them out as I go, but I like to post here too just in case. I do have a tendency to be a bit slow at times.
First, I choose human off the bat as it is the most rounded race and gives me a bit of time to get the feel of the game design and the way races intertwine with the guilds and such. However, I have heard that the Illithoids make very good monks and seeing how they are accepted in Magnagora I have been trying to learn more about them but so far all I have is the help scroll. I do not want to just up and ask over CGT a question like this, since I am trying to build some RP and believe that it would kind of taint my character. So I am going to wait a bit in game before I ask there to give my character some time to see that there are other races and meet people who are that race. Any thoughts here though would be appreciated and greatly welcomed. Does not have to be very long or anything, just a brief over run of the pros and cons would be nice.
Second, I am interested in the combat. I hear it is completely unique and a bit more difficult to use. Especially since I just switched to MushClient and have no programming knowledge once so ever so it will make a bit harder. Is MushClient the main client used or is everyone else on something different and how hard will it be to find people that can help me learn? Also, what is the combat like here. I read it in a post so I will use the quote, yet I can't remember who said it, "Imperian's combat is like Aetolia's and Achaea's but on sterioids." Is Lusternia the same in the sense that most combatants are already experienced from others or what? Not sure if that made sense or not but okay...
Finally, what is the general RP of Magnagora. It seems that there is no simple good and evil. It is tainted, non-tainted, and foresty...if that is even correct so I was wondering if I need to work on being cold or kind only to those of my city or what?
Anyways, I think that should be enough for now. Thank you anyone and everyone who replies and I hope to see you all in the realm.

-Illithoid make pretty good monks because of their 15 dex (monk damage depends mostly on dex and to a smaller extent on str), though I think krokani are better if you're going to go with a neutral balance race since they have a higher strength and better resistances. You can certainly play an illithoid monk and do fine, though.
-Most people use zMUD or cMUD, I think, but there are some who use MUSH.
-What the person who made that quote about Imperian almost certainly meant is that Imperian uses many of the same classes that Achaea and Aetolia do, except they made everything massively faster and more powerful. Lusternia's classes are entirely unique (one or two skillsets are taken from the other games, like Tarot, but they work differently with the classes here than there... and don't be deceived by skills like Healing which sound like they're the same but actually work quite differently). As a result it's difficult to compare, especially because of things like the power and deepwounds mechanics.

First off, Welcome to Lusternia!
I think you'll find combat can be a lot more chaotic here than the other IRE games, namely due to the large number of things to consider, like deepwounds, and more recently, ruptures. Being a Ninjakari, you'll be using both, though.
I also think that healing is a bit more complicated here, but at the same time I started Lusternia knowing nothing about IRE combat, and I've ended up writing my own system for it.
The best way to get ideas for the type of role play in Magnagora is to read up on the histories posted on the main site. I also believe that we have the richest world and history here, compared to the other iron realms, so not only do you learn things for your character, but you're actually very entertained while doing so.
The Ninjakari are a very new guild, only released yesterday, so you can benefit by learning their combat right along with the rest of your guild.
Most people who play Lusternia seem to use Zmud or Cmud, as Sham said, but a lot of people also use Mush. As a matter of fact, the champion of the Ninjakari, Ethelon, uses Mush and sells nice system for it, if you're interested in investing credits in your curing.

Welcome to Lusternia!
Shamarah was pretty correct on the monks thing-dex is the more important attribute between str and dex. Although, human get stat boosts after level 50. Do monks get a stat breakdown of their own? Anyone know? Anywho, humans might end up with better stats overall, but krokani do have nice racial benefits.
Also, combat in Lusternia is a little more complex, as Shamarah said, because of wounds and power. However, there is always room for new combatants and at this time Magnagora could use some good leadership and fighters. The game tends to go in cycles as far as who is in control. And, ninjakari has JUST been opened! So, not many people have really honed in the fine mechanics of the guild, so you may have a lot of fun playing one as the things you'll be doing will be brand new!
Hrm, what else...Oh! The roleplay in Magnagora is kind of an aristocratic/totalitaristic society. Basically, know your role until you're big enough to boss other people around. People play the taint as (and stop me if I'm wrong anyone-who-actually-plays-in-magnagora) an enlightenment tool, something that broadens your horizons, I guess. However, people also seem to be pretty cold towards each other. I suppose that's the cities environment though, not entirely the taint's fault.
Most people use Zmud or Cmud. However, there are a few Mush users, and even a small number (1, maybe 2 now) of people that sell a Mush client.
Anyhow, someone from Mag could tell you more, but I hope any information I provided will help

Monks get a stat breakdown of their own. Dex is more important, but str is still very relevant (experiments with furrikin have proven this to me, sigh.) Krokani are better than humans as far as monk stats are concerned, but humans have the awesome xp bonus thing going for them.
And I think Talkan meant "sell a MUSHClient system", not "sell a mush client"?

Magnagora is kind of an aristocratic/totalitaristic society.
Magnagora is about freedom (to the point of extravagant debauchery) and technology/science.
After the lamps that were added, someone said Mag was getting a steampunk vibe to it.

Wow, thanks everyone for all the responses. Really has helped a lot especially with how I plan to work on my character and improve him.
Also on a side note...help me decide...keep Synner or change to Hiresano? I kind of like the second one..or there is Ekaro or Ekari...?

Most people probably dislike those names since they're in the 'OMG NINJAAAAAA' category.

Afraid I don't quite understand...
Five seconds after the Ninjakari opened:
(College): Ninjagurl says, "Believe It! I won't run away anymore... I won't go
back on my word... that is my ninja way! To become Hokage is my dream!"
If it sounds Japanese or ninja-like in a way, you can count on someone being irked by it. That doesn't mean, however, that the names are forbidden or anything!

Sojiro sounds ninja-y.
I'd go with whatever name you like best, because your enjoyment of the game is all that matters.

Someone has been watching way to much Naruto...
I can understand liking the show and watching it on a regular basis...because I am the same with Deathnote and Bleach...but wow that is like serious OOC and way to obsessive... okay back to the drawing board on names then.
Thanks for the heads up Furien. Appreciate it.

Okay I am curious...I decided to try to use my name from Aetolia here since I really liked it. It was Demion in Aetolia but here it says it is inapproiate for the realm...and by accident I changed it to Deion...which works out too!! Just curious why it wouldn't let me use Demion...any ideas?
Xavius2007-12-18 05:08:45
You need more names that don't sound like real words. Synner's something I probably would have nixed as a guide too.

Well, maybe cause it's really close to Demon... and aside from the fact that Demon is not a good name... there are actual Demons here.
I like Deion though!

Hehe. Deion was complete accident and I have to agree I like it as well.

I like to run any names that I make up (or think I've made up) through a google search first, just to make sure I'm not accidentally infringing on any copyrights (*coughIncabuloscough*).
Oh, and on the topic of monk dex: Illithoid + limber = I have succumbed to the Iwantamagmonkalt disease. I'm probably going to suicide her after a while, because - even though I really like Mag's vibe - I can't do opposing orgs very well. But while Aasteri's there, I'll do what I usually do and help novices since I may as well be useful while she is still around.
