Okay, as you know, Vis and I won Medallions already. It's semi-artied, insofar as that you can touch it indoors and it tells you it's a transplanar device, but outdoors, it doesn't work at all.
Now, I don't want to sound greedy or anything, but aren't Medallions supposed to help in the final Ascension or something? If I remember wrong, correct me, but I thought they were tools for when the fight on Astral goes down (which seems logical, otherwise applicants for Ascendants with circlets would have a pretty big advantage compared to Applicants for Ascendants without).
So, basically, the gist of what I want to say is: Is there a special reason the Medallions are deactivated until after the events?
(Again, I don't want to sound greedy, I'll probably spend another month forging until I can leave my manse again)

I concur, I think it'd be reasonable for the Medallions to work right off the bat. We worked hard for these things, and it'd be peachy keen if we could use them before the big day.
Just my two cents.

The medallions weren't working until after the ascension event was over last year, why should it be any different this time around?
Ilyarin2008-01-21 17:11:28
The Medallions had no effect during the Ascension 2007 event. And, in regards to Circlets, they were similarly disabled during the final ascension event. Thusly, the two primary uses of the Medallion were disabled. In exchange the bonus that Seal Bearers had was the ability to instantly destroy any of the Kethuru-spawn released on the Plane.
It looks like you two may have different/new Medallions however, as mine is still functioning. If this is so, it could be described as such IC as not being able to draw the power of the Seals, because they're weak.

Never mind being able to use them; back in my day, we didn't even know what the medallions did until after the ascension event!

So basically since Ilyarin's thing still works. Does that mean that these things are going to be permanent fixtures for the people here? so now we will end up with like what 14 of them at the end of this ascension event?

I'm guessing we won't know for sure until after the Ascension Event and the new ones are activated.

I can't really see the admin taking the medallion powers away from the people who currently possess them.

I can.
That's why I suggest waiting until after the event's done, and the completion of their Grand Plot.
They do like to try and surprise us, after all.

I'd still like to know, could Seal winners from last time still win a Seal this time? I know Shamarah joined in the War challenge, but would you have forced the Seal upon another of his team had they won?

It isn't really a power it is a 2600 cr artifact, which is why I can see them taking them away as well. It just wouldn't be profitable for IRE or Lusternia for them to hand out those to people every year and let the previous winners retain them.
Malicia2008-01-21 20:16:06
Be glad you won them.
Ashteru2008-01-21 20:57:56
Now then, what suggests we aren't?
Unknown2008-01-21 22:13:33
Hmm,
Well, actually Ashteru, now that you and Visaeris have the medallions, they should now bring the hairy eyeballs of Kethuru alerted to you guys. So maybe tendrils, tentacles and eyeballs can start coming after you guys and you can use your granted medallion-fu to help save the basin. That makes more plot sense, doesn't it, and maybe the bashing XP will be worth it. Or they could activate the medallions early but put Kethuru in the fulcrux.
In the words of the late John Houseman in "The Paper Chase"...you have to EARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN IT...
As far as prior winners, well, Estarra's already gone on record saying she doesn't feel it deserved a nerf after those being won the contest. Of course, for a 2600 credit artifact, maybe Kethuru should be looking for revenge on prior seal bearers...
Now I'm gonna go hide before you all throw shoes at me...(and to be fair, Tully mouthed off to him last time so I'd also likely be a target).

Hey heard they are good gold too! So sure! But I'd probably just run away from them and stack them at the Aetherplex. For the fun of seeing the aggro mobs attack travels, know what I mean?

They've already said they won't, based on the fact that 2nd-5th place last year got credit prizes that don't expire.
Unknown2008-01-22 12:38:59
I don't mind the old seals still working, but I don't think they should insta-kill tentacles and eyeballs anymore.

I can provide a lot of evidence that what "They Say" isn't set in stone. I'd still suggest waiting.
Unknown2008-01-22 20:02:20
If the Medallions are gonna act like beacons for Kethurumobs, can they at least work to instakill the stuff that comes like the old ones do?
I also agree the old seals shouldn't still function in that capacity, mostly because it gives a big advantage to orgs with still-active seal holders, come ascension.

Any of the Medallion naysayers think I should get 2600 credits if I lose my Medallion, or should winners from previous years basically get nothing that lasts if they don't take the Staff?
