Hiya! So, I'm in a bit of a spot. I'm looking at choosing a guild in Magnagora and having a bit of trouble. I think I've narrowed it down to either the ur'Guard or the Nihilists. I would, however, like some opinions - preferably from people within either guild - on which they think might be best. Some notes:
1. From the forums I already understand that to be a powerful warrior you need credits, and lots of them.
2. There's some confusion right now on how warriors have been effected by some recent changes. (DMP - no idea what this is.)
3. I like pie.
4. I'm all for the whole suffering/ruthlessness roleplaying.
5. I WANT AND NEED good roleplaying within the guild.
6. To me, both guilds have their draws skill wise, even though they are completely different from my understanding. (One is magic based, with demons... I'm assuming affliction based killing? The other is physical based, crack skulls, smoosh.)
7. I would like to be decent/good at bashing. I'm assuming either class can do this, with probably warriors coming out on top just because... well, that's how it usually is.
8. Awesome roleplaying would take precedence over almost anything else. I love to feed off of other people's enthusiasm, so if there are a good lot of folk setting up a great experience, I'll be much more contributing to the atmosphere and enjoy myself a lot more.
Erm... so yeah, short version - ur'Guard/Nihilist, want good roleplaying, nice bashing a plus.
Any guidance for this poor soul?

Nariah wins at RP. +Nihilists
Getting started as a warrior takes time/money, and they start out lousy hunters. +Nihilists
When hunting potency -really- matters (upper levels), warriors take the prize. +Ur'guard
Given your weighting... I'd go Nihilist.

Erm, nope. I don't know who that is. I just really like pie.

Well, Nihilists are supposedly one of the best classes so far as 1v1 combat goes PvP wise.... though I've never fought/played one so... my opinion is NA.
Other than that, after being a warrior for a while, I did like the class so far as combat goes... but for bashing, it really was a pain in the neck (might have had something to do with the fact that I had no system to speak of whatsoever at the time).
That said, the RP of being demonic and having demon servants definitely sounds interesting to me. *grins* I'd personally go for Nihilists if I was in your shoes, if I didn't care about being melee or not (which I do... I prefer melee in Lusternia for some reason). *grins*
But overall.. your choice!

Not really. At least, if you're referring to the recent poll, most people voted for Nihilists for the sole reason of mocking Malarious.
@Estos: Sounds like either guild would be fine for you. I'd suggest just making a character in each guild to test the waters, and then go with whatever you find to be more appealing. Experience > other people's advice.

But on top of that, try not to play too many alts or guildhop alot... people don't like that much. And the not playing alts, allows you to learn and really enjoy one character more, I know that one from experience!

ur'Guard RP is very much military-style 'take your orders, salute your superiors'. If you're after that kind of strictness, but not having a whole lot of 'I am a ruthless worshipper of x, y or z Demon Lord', then the ur'Guard is good. If not, as has been said, Nihilists are for you in that respect.
As far as bashing goes - in the lower levels, with less skill, Nihilist bashing is probably better than warrior. However, when you start getting level 60+, warrior bashing is pretty hard to beat, simply because at that point, you probably have acquired enough gold to get good weapons/armour.
Warriors, however, are expensive in terms of gold outlay. Once you've spent that gold though, they're pretty damn hard to beat for PvE, and not shabby at all for PvP.

Nihilists and good RP? No. The main RPer (sthai) was scared away. Cacophony has great RP. Turns out bards are also one of the best bashing guilds and pvpers.
But, between Nihilists and Ur'guard, I'd say Nihilist based on what you want.

Let's pretend we know what were talking about! YAY!
Now then, Estos, if your looking for guilds I think both have good RP. The ur'guard has a very military RP. Nihilists are much more about following the demon lords and have a cult like air to them.
I'm not that into PvP but I can tell you that Ur'guard with the money invested into them will probably be better then Nihilists.
Nihilist do have better bashing at lower levels but is not what you want if your going for demigod. Ur'guard are about the opposite of that. Good high level bashing, bad low level.

I was there when it happened! Yay! Nihilist RP was never much of anything. Nihilists never really do much of anything. That's my observation.
Gawd, say anything less than flattering about a guild and people get huffy.
Edit: I forgot the disclaimer that this is just my opinion and a smiley face That better?

I agree with Thoros on that comment, Lawl.
Anyways, go Nihilist for the RP, but if you are interested in "pwning" at higher levels and can acquire credits, go ur'Guard.

Picking Nihilists or ur'Guard on the basis of RP is like deciding whether to bet on the 90 year old man with a failed hip replacement or the five year old in a non-electric wheelchair to win a fight.
The rest of it is pretty accurate, though. Levelling is much easier at low levels with Nihilists. It's moderately easier at higher levels as a warrior. Top-tier warrior combat pretty much requires an investment in artifacts, but mid-tier combat isn't really more expensive for one than the other. Ur'Guard might have better top-tier potential than Nihilists. At the very least, more people are able to get into top-tier combat as a warrior, which might be an issue of mechanics or discrepency in player talent.
Anyways, yes, make alts. Someone earlier (forgot who) said alts were frowned upon. This couldn't be further from the truth.

Well, I sorta did, but what I actually meant was that guild hopping was frowned upon... and that having alts quite often hinders your progress because your time is so spread out.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I'll have to make alts and feel it out, but I do plan on getting some credits fairly soon, so I was hoping there would be a more clear cut winner in the rp department. I'm honestly quite surprised that a few people agree that neither guild does it well, since in some of the other muds I've played, really creative people flock towards the more "twisted" guilds. Though that's not to say that the lighter side doesn't have it's share of sick people, too.
I am planning on getting credits and didn't want to waste a bunch of time developing characters in both of them (since my time is often taken up by real life work), but at least I have a bit better idea on it.

Nihilists sounds like a guild you'd like, although their bashing isn't top tier like warrior bashing. But Lich makes up for that, and more.
As for the pie thing... Tervic is obsessed with pie. Maybe find another hobby, eh?

Nihilist has awesome RP possibilities, and there are good RPers in the Guild and just all around good people. Reginaldus and Othero are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Malarious is incredibly helpful if you are up to listening to him talk for a while
