Is there anyway to fix when weakenings actually happen? It's really difficult to get a crew up and ready when most people are attempting to get ready for bed. I understand that it's probably set for some weird foreign country's time zone, as most things seem to be. But when the majority of players are state-side, it'd be nice if we could have weakenings happen at some time OTHER than the middle of the night.
Weakenings would also be a lot more interesting and dramatic if we had more crew available, which means we could get more ships in the air, which means we'd be able to experience more ship vs. ship combat.
PLEASE.
..pretty please? -sniffle-

They're randomised. We do not need it to be changed so another timezone can't participate, AGAIN.
Xavius2008-02-04 05:35:33
They're not randomized. They're very frequent, though, and it looks like it'll drift through primetime for every timezone on Earth, English-speaking or no, every 25 OOC days.
Shiri2008-02-04 05:37:58
They are randomised. They're randomised between something like 90 day-intervals and 120-day intervals. We've had the Divine specifically tell us this in the past.
Xavius2008-02-04 05:45:40
We're talking about nexus world weakenings? No. They're not random. The minor ones are very predictable, and the major ones are definitely not random in a 30-day span. More like...1 day.
Shiri2008-02-04 05:53:09
Then they're buggy, 'cause we've been told that's not how they're meant to work...
Xavius2008-02-04 05:54:54
They're based on planetary movement, which is both very predictable and the stated basis for weakening times. The only random factor you can claim is that retrograde motion is possibly random.

I couldn't find the Fain post I wanted, but I did find this, quoting an announce post. I'll grant that it's old, but it certainly -looks- like it's meant to be random.

You wouldn't be able to participate regardless. When there are only 40 people logged on during the weakening, there won't be enough people to get a crew up, and even if you do you won't do anything but sit there floating in aetherspace. It's completely pointless to have it this late. We were able to get a crew together for this past weakening but all we did was sit there at the dock. I took us home around mid-day because there was no point wasting the time in space. When the weakenings are this late, it's just free particles for whatever ground crew we can manage to get up.

Wasn't this before the mini-weakening change, when they were pegged to Astrological events?
Shiri2008-02-04 16:26:16
Probably, but wasn't it only mini-weakenings tied to astrological events? What astrological event is the major weakening tied to? I just thought it was a case of astrologers being able to find out when it was.

There's quite a sizeable population of players who aren't American and they deserve this sort of thing just as much as you yanks!
Unknown2008-02-04 19:28:55
So there is a way to find out when they're gonna be? Because I didn't know that... and that'd be nice to know.

Be/ask an astrologer.

Yeah, but what are your peak hours? I'm pretty sure that the largest chunk of players are around during primtime US time zones. Make the mini-weakenings set to go off during your freaky time schedules...It's hard to lead a crew when I'm asleep at 4 in the morning like most normal people.

I, personally, am just fine with them not always being during the hours I'm online. I got my fill of them when they were just implemented, and I made every single one for a few weeks.
Thanks.

I beg to differ. What has your country ever done for me? Besides give you the right to hold that over my head
Rika2008-02-05 09:59:19
English, Americans, they're all the same.
But what's wrong with having weakenings being random like revolts? Means EVERYONE should have a chance, instead of one group of people getting all the chances and another group missing out completely.

Having them on a schedule that isn't an integral multiple of 24 hours is the best of both worlds. Everyone gets a chance, as the time precesses through the day; and since they're known ahead you can prepare for them. We already have the randomly timed thing, so a not-randomly-timed thing gives all those nifty preparation skills (like herofete) a chance to be used. There's no problem here, just a solution trying to find something to solve.
