Now I'm really curious as to what the other designs entered for the Seal were (and I'm sure a few others are too)! So if you didn't get placed in the top 5, showcase your art here so the rest of us can still 'Oooh' and 'Aaah' at them, and perhaps take a couple of pointers here and there
(I will post mine after some people post their designs first )

Lowe better post his, it was awesomesauce. I actually wanted to submit it for the Trinkets cartel, but he gave it to Magnagora, meh. Trinkets had to settle with this design, and I knew it wasn't going to get anything >.>

4964 - a rainbow dragon brooch
Dropped: A tiny dragon-shaped brooch lies here, its multicoloured
scales glittering brilliantly.
Examined: Wingless form fashioned from pearl into an undulating
dragon, this tiny brooch shimmers with a rainbow hue. A small, black
pearl provides an unblinking eye, while onyx shards create an
unsettling grin, spiked mane, and wickedly sharp claws. The barbed
tail forms a half-moon curve, its tip curling upon itself at the
dragon's pointed nose. Scales have been carved from an assortment of
sparkling gems in all the colours of the rainbow ranging from deep,
blue sapphires to sunny beryl gems. These scales have been embedded
sparsely onto the dragon, enhancing the rainbow essence of the pearl
with their colourful glitter. Faint etchings in the pearl itself
define limbs, muscles, and scales.

Appearance:
a gold-chased garnet wedding ring
Dropped:
Oddly out of place, a ring of crimson and gold lies abandoned here.
Examined:
A profusion of vibrant colour and regal contrast, this masterful ring combines simplicity of form with myriad details. Serving as the base material of this unusual piece is a rich garnet, brilliant red in hue. A spectacle of shades and reflections spring forth from its crystalline interior in blazing scarlets and deep vermillions, the complexity of the mineral's natural beauty further emphasised by the ring's simple shape; an exact circle, contoured and rounded for comfort. A careful polish creates just enough lustre to illuminate the perfectly smooth surface without obscuring its inner fire. Showing themselves brightly against the ruddy backdrop are fine golden roses, painstakingly incused along the narrow edges of the ring. Each one unique in shape, their flawless details are marked out in subtle shades of pale gold, endlessly trailing bloom to stem around the circumference.
I was designing it anyhow, it just happened to be in the works when the Ascension event started.
edit: It's a wedding ring. I normally try to avoid superlative statements in designwork, but I feel a wedding ring calls for them. It would be the same with a splendour robe or such.

After the fuss last year about how artisan designs won too many slots, I expected the judges to, consciously or unconsciously, lean away from that kind of elaborate artisan crafts. (Didn't expect them to exclude artisanry entirely, though.) So I figured I'd hedge my bets with one elaborate, and one fairly simple and elegant.
Incidentally I didn't do any new designs for the contest, I just picked my favorite of my existing designs.
QUOTE(a tapestry of a great musical gathering)
Dropped:
A bright, colourful tapestry depicting a musical gathering has been hung here.
Examined:
On a backdrop of rich, sumptuous fabric, a sweeping scene of a majestic
gathering is depicted within a vibrant forest. At the centre stands a
vast moonhart whose branches span the breadth of the tapestry, its
mighty branches curling around the gathering. By some cunning of the
weaving, these branches seem to transform as the eye follows them into
the many and varied trees of the forest. Within the shelter thus
provided are gathered a host of forest-dwellers of all types, each one
lovingly depicted in painstaking detail despite the tiny size of each
image in the crowd. For all their individual detail, they are
colourless, drawing the eye to the object of their rapt attention: the
two bright, colourful figures at the centre of the crowd. On the right,
towering above the others, a mighty four-legged being surrounded by a
radiant aura focuses His divine will on a spinning iridescent orb.
Opposite Him is a small, dark-skinned faeling with striking butterfly
wings in a rapid flutter of rainbow colours; her attention is also
focused on the orb, her hands and voice raised in an uplifting,
celebratory supplication to it. A flutter of golden musical notes
surrounds her and emanates from her, swirling amongst the onlookers and
falling upon the orb; and something in their arrangement suggests an
unseen presence just beginning to coalesce from the very notes
themselves.

QUOTE(an elegant high tea picnic basket)
Dropped:
An elegant picnic basket decorated with wildflowers is set up here for a high tea.
Examined:
This light picnic basket is fashioned from slats of undyed wood woven at
diagonals, through which petals of wildflowers have been entwined to
give it a rustic charm. The centre of the basket is a round cubby shaped
to hold a teapot and several cups, which can also be set on the basket's
lid, allowing it to serve as a small table on which the tea may be set
up and displayed. The cubby is lined with sturdy linen cloth which
serves to insulate its contents against jarring blows as well as to keep
in heat. The sides of the basket swing open to reveal three small
shelves of just the right height to store delicate tea sandwiches. These
shelves can be slid partially out to display the sandwiches, providing
an elegant setting for a high tea in any location.

Like Eld, this one was completed shortly before the Ascension was announced, so I thought I'd just submit this one. Shame fighting rings aren't used that much though.

Appearance:
a ring depicting the Inner Sea
Dropped:
A fighting ring depicting the Inner Sea, dotted with turtles, dolphins, and
kelpies as spots for the figurines to stand, makes its presence here.
Examined:
This fighting ring depicts the entirety of the Inner Sea. The marble
walls of the ring come up to around the height of the knees of the
average human. Towards one side of the circle is a small beach fringed
by deltas, representing the Toronada Flats, complete with small gems
representing the various creatures there: red for crabs, white for
seagulls, gray for pelicans. A bit to the counter-clockwise direction is
a replica of the magnificent city of New Celest, its walls shimmering
turquoise, the Star represented by a magnificent diamond in the centre
of the rising tiers. Continuing along the circle, almost exactly
opposite the Toronada Flats, is a small Stewartsville village, complete
with wooden houses and a small dock. In the remaining cardinal direction
there is a dark-green and brown smudge of land, Balach Swamp. Small
wooden crocodiles bask in the sun there, while intimidating turtles only
a fingertip big seem to patrol the area. In the centre of the ring, on a
slightly lower level than the outermost ring of geographic locations, is
the fighting ground. It is actually filled with a shallow layer of
water, occasionally with specks of green on the bottom surface to denote
the kelp fields. Small flat pieces of marble are carved to represent
dragon turtles, dolphins, and kelpies, making convenient platforms for
the figurines to hop around on to avoid getting wet. In the very centre
of the ring, slightly unfaithful to proper geography, is what is
supposed to be the Isle of Light. A large circular platform of marble
tinted yellow even with a small lighthouse jutting out, the Isle makes a
perfect location for the figurines to meet in their epic battle. In the
middle of the Isle is etched the thin outline of a perfect octagon, with
another thin outline of a four-cornered star pointing the cardinal
directions in the middle. The details of this ring are astounding, and
will keep the watchers in rapture as much as the battle in it will.

Gruesome and deadly, this chain has been crafted using the spine of a
merian adult. An small iron chain runs through the vertebrae,
reinforcing it and acting as a fulcrum. Gratuitous amounts of dried
blood remain on the weapon, but it is indeterminable whether this is
from the victim to which the spinal cord originally belonged to or from
victims of the weapon itself. Weighing down each end of the spine is an
iron-plated merian skull.

Appearance: an imposing tapestry of the Necropolis
Dropped: In all its grandeur, an imposing tapestry of the Necropolis is exhibitid upon a nearby wall here.
Examined: The tapestry has been rendered from a dizzying angle of one cast to their knees and gazing up at the terrifying vista sprawling in all directions. The Megalith of Doom utterly dominates the canvas with its overwhelmingly gargantuan proportions and exuded aura of power seemingly too vast to contain. A varied crosshatch weave has been applied heavily around the central figure to convey the distortion caused by such a precarious confinement. Wrapping the very fabric of reality around itself, this magnetic field also leaves colour within the closest proximity devoid of any semblance of saturation. The blacks, which vary in hues from turbid ink to lifeless slate portray the looming monstrosity with glistening threads of a darkly iridescent shade employed to faithfully depict the oozing oil coating its surface. The sinister features of the Necropolis, along with its black marble archways and the massive dome, serve for a backdrop on the sides, where the Megalith’s might does not obscure vision. Portending unfathomable magicks, sickly jade runes have been embellished along the underside of each archway and highlighted with a single brush of vitreous enamel that leaves them glowing eerily within this desaturated environment.

Also submitted a gown, a remake of my splendour robes:
QUOTE
Appearance: a resplendent gown of crepuscular chiffons
Dropped: In a puddle of dusky chiffons, a resplendent gown has been discarded here.
Examined: This resplendent gown is a swirl of dark and subdued tones that call to mind sunlight shining through a dense, atmospheric haze of a blackened and stormy sky. Chiffons to resemble these crepuscular colours have been carefully selected and amongst them predominant are ebonies, slate greys and misty midnight blues. The top part consists primarily of ebony chiffon merged on top with translucent golden gauze, which adds it an enticing sheen and still leaves it weightless. The true splendour unravels in the bottom part where the chiffon layers are of all the remaining dusky hues with an occasional translucent golden layer peeking from beneath the caliginous mosaic. Yet the charm of this gown is not limited to the colouring and the material, its daring cut only accents it further. The bodice consists of a shawl-like piece that wraps around the top of the back and is then pulled forth with tailored space for the arms to slip through. In the front the strands skim under the bust, offering it some coverage, and then twirl around each other over the solar plexus with a tiny golden band holding it together. The remaining material spreads evenly over the abdomen and thinly into the back which leaves almost all of the back and sides exposed, though still providing a base for the skirt layers to attach. A wisp of golden satin wraps around the joining spot at the hips, its ribbons vanishing into the midst of the trailing skirt at the back. Marvellous from top to toe, this gown exudes a dark, stately demeanour whilst still remaining light and unconventional.

Appearance:
a single-breasted, purple and gold vest
Dropped:
A purple vest with gold buttons has been forgotten here.
Examined:
This vest has been made primarily from a stiff royal purple silk. The
silk has been brocaded to create a repeating pattern of an amaranth
flower. The flower has been outlined in gold thread, the purple silk
adding colour to the flower. Threads of silver run vertically down the
vest in a curved pattern, weaving back and forth between the flowers.
Black silk lines the inside of the vest and provides some comfort to the
wearer as well as hiding the extra thread from the brocade. Two small
pockets sit at about the wearer's stomach. The buttons have been made
out of a bright yellow gold and are shaped to look like a skull, with
small rubies placed into the eye sockets. The buttons end even with the
beginning of the wearer's arms, a sharp v-neck finishes off the top of
the vest. A notched lapel helps decorate the neck of the vest.

I knocked up something on-the-go, because on the night right before the deadline (night for me - it was 11 pm) Ialie mentioned that Goldleaf wasn't submitting anything, and I went "What a waste!". Knew it wouldn't get anything, but I wanted a pendant anyway for my focus enchants.
a pendant of the harvest moon
A lunar pendant lies here, reflecting the available light in a faint
silver glow.
Wrought of shining gold and silver, this pendant is a work of
painstaking delicacy. It is perfectly circular in shape, depicting a
wreath of wheat, fruit and other bounties of the harvest. Tiny rubies
form the full pomegranates that hang lushly within the wreath, and
gleaming gold is fashioned into the ears of wheat and corn that braid
together in intricate patterns. A great horned owl with eyes of emerald
perches atop the wreath with its wings outspread, and within the wreath
nestles a radiant full moon of shining silver. Around this tableau are
the forms of three women, one a slender maiden, one a gentle mother, and
one an aged crone, with their hands linked in a graceful circle and
their faces gazing towards the moon as if in invocation. Fine diamond
dust dances about them, and the convex shape of the full moon casts a
faint, silvery light upon their faces, reminiscent of argent moonbeams.

I whipped up something I thought of while driving home from a long day at work... came up with a bit of poetry to go with it. First the design...
Appearance: A monstrous two-faced phoenix mask
Dropped: A monstrous two-faced phoenix leers up at you.
Description: Glorious silk dyed in shades of crimson and gold speckled with fiery opals makes up one side of this immense mask, providing a stunning contrast to the decaying scales and green jade gears that compose the opposite side. The fiery side of the mask has been sewn and inlaid with intricately embroidered patterns of golden thread and blood-red rubies that lick upwards towards the top of the mask in stylized flames. Stiffened, gold-plated feathers arch upwards and around the side of the head, suggesting a magnificent crest. A massive beak of gold covered with filigreed patterns of miniscule opals and tendrils of silver juts out of the mask, covering nose and mouth. The opposite side of the crest is composed of cadaverous white feathers that appear to have been plucked from a massive bird. The shafts terminate in raw, exposed leather dyed in mottled patterns of corpse-white and putrescent green flesh studded with tiny emeralds in disturbing, curling patterns that parody and mock the glorious flames of the other face of the mask. Leather and feathers give way to what appears to be nothing more than a framework of bronze shafts and an interlocking series of moss-green jade gears and cogs, seemingly wound by a corroded black key set in a lock near the temple. Wound, the mask emits a series of insectile clicks and the occasional pure chime in a minor note.
And then the poem:
Bleached feathers from a dead God's bird,
Crimson tongues torn from Urlach's corpse.
Jade-wrought gears in the Engine forged,
Bronze bones torn from Vernal ruins.
Dracnari scales from a heretic's back,
Merian fins from those skinned alive.
Plundered gold thread to make up the lack,
Of the skin that we tore from a dragon's hide.
No truer thing was made than this,
A cage of alloy and clicking gears.
And for those who dare the golden kiss:
Let the alloyed beak devour foolish tears.

Appearance: A blackened tome of steel and bone
Dropped: A blackened tome of steel and bone lays here in the dust, glinting ominously.
Description: Glinting steel and blackened bone inlaid with fine enamel and gemstones adorns the massive framework of this ominous tome. Fine, intricate lines of crimson outline an immense, multifarious rose that sprawls across the centre of the tome, each swirling petal made of a small plate of blackened angelbone. Delicate, wickedly curved sigils of garnet curl across the shadowy petals, suggesting drops of blood or the warped shape of thorns set into the sooty blossom. On the reinforced spine of the book, acid-etched lines touched with gem-like enamel serve to illuminate the curved and elongated form of Queen Nifilhema, who reaches upwards with languid arms towards a gruesome mask carved from a single shard of black and crimson marble.

a silken wyrden shawl
A swathe of green and gossamer has been folded neatly and left here, resting upon the ground.
A simple black border neatly outlines this well proportioned shawl, breaking it into three segments. The larger middle panel is made primarily of textured, pongee silk. The cloth has been hand dyed, with varying shades of earthy greens creating bands that resemble tree trunks. The excess dye bleeds into the silk, creating a texture not too dissimilar to underbrush and moss. Glimpses of purple hues bring an eerie warmth to the trees. Strips of dark, smooth gossamer have been sewn in an ethereal overlay, tendrils reaching out like mist weaving between the dyed trunks. Silver thread has been stitched into these overlays, forming crow tongue script telling of a summer song. The left side panel hosts an image of Crow in profile, as if peering down through the branches of a tree. The right panel hosts an image of a fair Maiden Night. Each Great Spirit frames the shawl, to lead the silk, wyrden embrace when draped across the wearer's shoulders.
The phrase "too much text" applies to mine, but the level of detail is insane. It got rejected outright from last year's competition due to a misplaced period at the end by my trademaster. Enjoy.
Huge, strong plates of gold dominate this set of fullplate, lovingly crafted in the style of the ancient Ur'Guard. The quality of the gold clearly shows it was purified by an extraordinarily skilled metal worker, and the power of the Taint has served to twist the light reflected by the precious metal into a darkened hue. The broad shoulder pauldrons smoothly curve into a resilient collar for neck protection and this neck guard is welded onto a thick wall of auric steel used for the chest and back plating. Along the back plate and shoulders, a variety of scenes have been painstakingly engraved to perfection. Upon each of the shoulder pauldrons, epic battles of antiquity have been detailed. Meanwhile, the back plate boasts an intricate design of an Ur'Guard knighting ceremony, and the triumph shines through in the posture of the orclach subjects in this powerful rendition. Upon the elbows and knees, steel chain mesh supports smaller, curved golden plates. Brutal curved blades arc away from the elbow and knee pads, adding a decorative touch to the armour, as well as a deterrent to a hasty attacker. The front of the abdominal plate has been shaped like a set of well-defined abdominal muscles, and a careful assessment of the back plating finds no gaps for a weapon to strike against flesh. The leg greaves are mighty, built for particularly large and powerful limbs, and the toes of the shimmering boots end in cruel spiked tips. Etched on the leg greaves are depictions of great orclach smiths, masterfully shaping tools of war from raw materials. A cursory examination of the inside of the armour reveals an additional, thick layer of steel underneath the gold, clearly for additional reinforcement. The interior is then lined with multiple layers of thick silk, to provide maximum comfort and flexibility in battle. Silver runes have been painted on the forearm plates and the neck guard. These are orclach runes, reminiscent of those worn by the shock troopers of Shallach.

Appearance: a chest adorned in dark veneer
Dropped: A chest panelled in dark veneer stands here, its closed lid adorned with an elaborate picture.
Open: A chest panelled in dark veneer stands here, its lid wide open.
Examined: Though plain in shape, this chest has a flat top and sides panelled in dark veneer, inlaid with elaborate pictures in a virtuoso demonstration of the artisan's skill. Framed in a scrollwork of blackthorn blossoms, the top panel shows the Lady Viravain amidst a gloomy woodland scene. She leans upon her gleaming scythe, fashioned from an inlaid shard of bone. A hairline crackle in the wood grain defines the cobwebbed gossamer of her gown, which pools beneath her seated figure. Around her gather the animals of Glomdoring: a pallid deer lifting its muzzle to her hand, giant beetles worked from chips of turquoise, wasps patterned in bands of light and dark wood. Effigies of Glomdoring's Great Spirits adorn the side panels. One side features a rough, stylised picture of Crow, while on the other, a female face resplendent in wood of darkest hue stares with terrible white eyes. Locks of hair writhe snake-like around her, shapes subtly figured in black trim upon a dark backdrop. Discreetly tucked away on the back panel, where it would likely face a wall, is a touching scene in which a willowy young girl clasps a deer's broken body in her arms. Serrated leaves wrought from blackened iron bracket the four corners of the chest lid. The chest fastens shut with a knot of tarnished silver, a viper coiled upon itself, a few of its tiny scales gleaming amidst the dull patina.
I realised after I'd submitted that one that, in the process of cutting down the length, I'd taken out most of the anti-Glom commentary. Oops.Dropped: A chest panelled in dark veneer stands here, its closed lid adorned with an elaborate picture.

Appearance : a blown-glass faeling brooch
Dropped : A glass brooch shaped like a faeling glimmers softly, discarded on the ground.
Examined : A faeling statuette wrought from gleaming silver perches atop a silver pin. The faeling has the willowy figure of a dancer, its body describing a perfect arc from nape of neck to pointed toe. The jeweller has eschewed fine detail in favour of smooth swells and curves, all polished to a perfect argent sheen. Specks of diamond studded over the miniature's torso and flanks make up its robes, casting glints of white fire as the light plays upon them. The diamonds' dazzle ripples through a pair of transparent wings fashioned in Celest's finest glassblowing tradition, which swoop from the faeling's shoulderblades to envelop the figurine. As delicate as tinted dew drops, light blue and violet spots incorporated in the clear glass have stretched out during the glassblowing process to create butterfly patterns. Hands joined in piety inside this glass shell, the faeling clasps a trilliant-cut sapphire, effulgent like a violent blue flame. The very image of hope, fragile but heart-achingly beautiful, the faeling lifts its head high and raises its face towards some uplifting promise.

Appearance:
a garnet lute of relic armour
Dropped:
Lying here on the ground is a rusted, fierce looking lute.
Examined:
Several pieces of dark wood have been fashioned together into the
voluptuous pear shape of this lute. The long, fretted neck bends where
the sanguine garnet pegs begin and five pairs of tarnished silver
strings have been strung upon it, set two and two. Lightweight leather
covers the base of the lute with stud accents that are dark with the
patina of time and sunk deeply into the hide. Sturdier, knightly armour
encases the top of the lute and the back of the neck, the thick dirt and
grime hiding most of the royal, intricate patterns that the armour once
possessed. Although the armour is filthy and stained with rust and
blood, it is still in top condition and sharp to the touch. Over the
soundhole, fierce tusks have been carved into a vicious pattern,
yellowed with age and rot. The scent of decay lingers over the armour,
clearly an ur'dead stripped of their precious protection.

I was aiming for a little bit different with this. I didn't want to do something relating to Celest... and I didn't want to do a tapestry. Blech.

Sthai's design rocks. The theme is so Magnagoran, with the scales and decay, but also pretty, which is hard to do. Usually when people try for that sort of thing they go for blood and gore, but hers is sinister while still being beautiful. I tried to do something similar with a design, but ended up cutting out all the tentacles because I simply couldn't describe them in a pleasing way. >.<

Bordered by intricate silver knots, this oval-shaped tapestry has been woven from dark silk that shimmers faintly in the available light. Contrasting against the shadows of the night-time glade the White Hart reclines gently amongst the undergrowth, his head dipped to sip the waters of the pool before him. Far above, the pale face of the full moon peeks down through the branches of an ancient tree, beams of silver light shining upon the scene as they illuminate the land and dispel the shadows. Vines of emerald wind their way around a hoop of black birch wood, leaves jutting out on either side to hold the tapestry firmly in place.
It never felt quite right but it's there. if anyone has seen the all-metal moonblade shofa design that's mine and I think it was submitted aswell
Tervic2008-02-03 12:15:47
Disclaimer, mine didn't actually get into the contest because I couldn't find a cartel that was willing to submit for me.... *sadness abounds* It was something that I'd been working on prior to the event, and figured since I'd put about 4 weeks into making sure I liked it, I might as well and see what happens. *shakes fist at lack of cartel* Oh well. Maybe next time.
Item: Dagger Type: Blades Org: Dragonscale
Commodities: diamond 1 bluetint 1 silver 4
Appearance:
a rune-inscribed twilight dagger
Dropped:
A deep blue dagger has been dropped here.
Examined:
Various streaks and whorls of indigo dye coat the split blades of this ceremonial silver dagger, mirroring the appearance of a clear twilight sky. Pale blue at the tip, the inking gently deepens to a midnight hue at the base, with the rich colour extending down through the hilt and swirling peacefully about the handle. Delicate striations wrap around a series of inscribed runes filled with crushed shards of diamond, lending a star-like glitter to the weapon. A small, rounded hilt presents twin wisps of drawn and shaped silver that curl up towards the point, parallel to the blades. Embossed into the underside of the hilt lies the image of a crossed hammer and feather set within a circle.
