Where's the RP at?

I love to RP, but admittedly it's been a while since me and a handful of others did so on another MUD way back when. I joined Lusternia because it looked like an ideal roleplaying environment, but since I joined on a Seren character, it's been pretty rare, and usually just involves wording my technical queries in a non-technical manner.

So... my question:
Where is RP the strongest here? I keep hearing about Glomdoring, and sometimes Magnagora, and I'm leaning toward either of those. Any positives/negatives you can alert me to as far as cities/communes/guilds go? Where will I find the most involving RP, and how easy is it to come across? I know there's a lot of you with strong opinions out there, so lets hear 'em! mf_swordfight.gif

Also, I'll be starting a character from scratch, so my other character doesn't really picture in my choice.

Try Magnagora, Nihilists to be exact. Nariah does a great job in that department.

Mag has good all around RP. If you look for it, you'll find it. Join a family (cough d'murani cough). You'll find a lot of RP there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like Magnagora's winning out so far... which is where i was leaning anyway. smile.gif

To be honest here are some fantastic roleplayers in both of the orgs - my advice is to find the Rp you want to carry through and just talk to people, emote a little, catch people's attention. RP is never going to leap your way, but with a little effort you can find little gems. Glomdoring is traditionally good for RP, the whole dark forest not attracting so many snugglies.
As for the orgs, pick the character/theme you are comfortable with and want to experiment with, your rolyplaying experiance probably best that way

If you really are stuck come chat with Ryleth IC, I'll never say I am the best roleplayer but I'm always ready to give it a go. smile.gif

There's RP to be found everywhere, even in Serenwilde, despite everyone saying it's non-existent. Aramel's been a Seren since character creation, since the whole Moondancer theme appeals to me, and I have found people who are willing to roleplay. Families lead to roleplay (well, some do. Others don't really.)

I'm inclined to think that Seren has no more and no fewer dedicated RPers than probably most other places, they just get drowned out in the crowd of other people. Also, the "forestal" theme is harder to spy than, say, the dark, brooding theme of Glomdoring or the harsh and power-hungry theme of Magnagora. Even Celest's RP is easier if you do the fanatical aspect of the Light.

Also, if your Seren character would like to find Aramel IG to have a chat, that'd be fine too. smile.gif

It's more about who you know than where you are. You won't find it any easier in other orgs if you aren't out looking for it.

Glomdoring has better roleplay than Magnagora, I'd say, but a far smaller population, so a lot of that roleplay is done with either just yourself or a couple others. In Magnagora, you really have to search for it, since there are a lot of people there who really just don't care about roleplay and will be blatantly OOC. Otherwise, Mag has some fantastic potential for sweet RP, it's just finding people to do it with (i.e. Sthai, Nariah).

Serenwilde has a few of its gems, but it is generally the 'snuggly' type. Celest... well, as long as you're not at the Pool for too long, you'll be fine. smile.gif

Don't forget that you don't necessarily NEED other people to roleplay. Roleplay can always go the way you want it to go when it's just yourself. It's times like that when I wish Lusternia had the 'think' command in this other MUD I played once... basically just thinking for your character. It was actually pretty sweet.

Anyway, done with my ramble.

Yes, you can write a story.

Glomdoring's got some potential for good RP. Lately, though, it's fizzled. Most tend to go about their own business, and what you read of Glomdoring in descriptions on the site aren't accurate to the lifestyle upheld. Some like it, others don't - though, this doesn't mean that RP is void here. As has been said, you just have to know whom to RP with. If you want the lighter air of the darker sense, there's one crowd. If you want the more ruthless colder feel, there's others who retain that. So, rather than just going where "rp is strongest", go to where the type of RP you'd want to participate in would gather - then ask around for whom to keep an eye out for and make sure you associate with, to get that RP.

QFT.

That's not to say that a lack of RP is entirely your fault, but I don't really think any of the orgs can lay claim to having better RP than any of the other ones, anymore. I think you'll find that, in all the orgs, you have these jewels of people who are good RPers and are interested in telling a good story, and you have to seek those people out no matter where you go. And you can definitely find them in the Serenwilde.

Glomdoring and Mag may have more of an -absence- of bouncy, springy, loller types just because the nature of the orgs tends to be darker and harsher (and I promise you, you'll run into those types in both of those orgs), but an absence of snugglers does not rich RP make. You really have to seek out the RPers, wherever you are.

My recommendation is to pick the org whose story is most interesting to you, find yourself a nice knot of RPers to interact with, and you'll find what you're looking for.

Well, i'll just be the first to say it, but Celest has great roleplay if you know who to talk to. It really is about who you know not where you are. Best advice is to find a place which you as a character would want to grow and develop and just go out and Role Play. I'm in Celest and do my best to interact with those outside the city and it has made for some good roleplay opportunities. Grant it these opportunities would be for naught if I didn't start with a character I felt interested in developing. The idea of joining a family is a great idea to kick it off, but that isn't where you want to end by far.

Hura for the not so dark and dreary Celest! wahoo.gif

Every org has great Rp. Lusternia in general, has great Rp, and this is why I love lusternia so much compared to the other IRE games. We have something others don't.

If your looking for good RP, you will find it. Those who don't look for good Rp, don't find it.
Revan2008-02-20 04:04:51
Best RP is in the Nihilists, I'd say. Nariah is probably one of the best RPers you'll find in the game. She just doesn't sit and tell you "ok, learn this.. ok, Ashtorat is about anger, so be angry." Nah, she makes you a cup of tea and weaves a delicious story for you that'll take an hour to finish. So yea, go for that

generally -- rp is in glomdoring.. (however, lots of battle is not, so pick your poison)

When i say generally, it means almost all people in there tries to stay ic and you would not hear any ooc talk.. might even get killed for such "childishness".. im sure each city and seren has the people that rp's.. but a large percentage of people that i talked to outside of glom tries to talk to me about things such as sport, alts.. etc.. etc.. such ooc issues i care not to participate in mostly..

for constant staying IC, glom is the place - bathe in the beauty of darkness..

Just start emoting like a mad(wo)man. RP will come to you.

Though this could also happen instead:

... nobody in Seren's ever tried to talk to me about sports. Or maybe it's just that I never talk to the people who wound.

Glom's ok for RP, though. My cute little Glom alt's having fun. biggrin.gif

Just wondering why people would be trying to go ooc with you, there is a difference between rping and talking ooc in tells or an ooc clan.
Suffering madness will normally result in just a talking to (In tells normally)

Population can be an issue, Places with large populations have a greater chance of people who don't rp. Also it just comes down to who you talk to, there are people who just naturally go ooc with people if you talk to them then your opinions are going to be skewed.

Had a glom accuse me of something or other once, it wouldn't make sense for them to apologise to a seren for a mistaken accusation nor for me to expect one. But the ooc one was nice. *shrug*
