Great houses, families, ideas.

Back to Ideas.

So... we've got the Mes'ard and D'Murani as great houses, so it seems like a good time to throw around ideas about great housing again, because right now it seems to be primarily for bragging rights.

Slightly thought out:
Family home
Each great house might purchase a section of land to construct their family home upon, this could be locked down similarly to a guild hall or open to the basin. Generally family specific things would be here

Glory/Favour
For many actions taken by members of a family, that family can accumulate glory. This translates loosely into essence/power, the family is able to spend it on improvements to their family home as well as any family related powers that might be added.

Family Artifact
Each family with enough glory could forge an artifact, this artifact would be a mark of honour within the family. Only able to be gained through a quest within the family home. This could be optionally restricted to only being activated by family members with one (memers of the family could be considered, but then there could be ceremony to welcome them as a full member of the family)

randoms:
-Titles (no need for any real coded support but it would be cool if great houses had some right to nobility, perhaps they would be expected to only confer the right to such through deeds to the house)
-Patron (was mentioned, I would be iffy on the idea)
-Powers

Veo previously had such a thread so some of these ideas were mentioned back then

The Mes'ard/D'Cente Luv Shack?

I have to ask, does everything in Lusternia have to have special things and awesome bonus' that go with it? We really seem to have benefits left right and center, Domoths and their Blessings, Constructs, Karma Blessings? We have manses for houses, why clutter Prime with more, what would happen if you lose it, does the house just magically crash down, or is it permenant?
Saran2008-02-29 11:15:06
@Arix: heh totally.

(Just off the clanhelp for the mes'ard I could see their symbol being the fool tarot from rl tarot symbology)

The attitude here is because you've managed to get 50 players into the family and you get a clan out of it which would be nice but by the time you get there nearly every family would already have one. The great house is actually a bit worse than a clan because you can't have people in there who aren't official yet.

Why not.

Also if they lose great house then they could simply lose access to the house, make the entrance an object then it can refuse to let people in because of the shame of the family losing it's status

I definitely agree with the notion that great houses should be able to create prime rooms having to do with the house - d'Murani already have a tower in Magnagora, and that definitely adds to our RP, and it would be cool if we could add to it. Perhaps something reasonable, like one room for every fifteen members starting at 55.

But, I think that a quest/family artifact is a bit much. Family bonuses should only add to RP.

I don't believe the artifact would have any real purpose. Think more along the lines of order items, they don't neccessarily do anything they are just a mark that you can have. The concept of some small quest or ritual is so that the receiving of such an object isn't just a matter of going up to somewhere saying a keyword and receiving it but something that the family would like.

I have to say, I kind of agree with Tenqual. Make a manse if you want a house for your Great House.
However, I do kind of like the family artifact idea. Like Saran said, nothing special like a credit-bought artifact, but just enough to show your status.

I like the idea of a family artifact. Although the Talnaras have their phoenix-themed clothing already because I have Too Many Unused cartel slots. tongue.gif

The family channel not including inactive/unofficial members is annoying, though. cry.gif

We'll probably end up using the clan anyway. Not like I'm going to exclude Sylphas and so on if he starts playing again.
Snaithy2008-02-29 18:51:10
We also thought about what it would be like getting our own bit of land. Especially with the Talnaras and the Dekovens close to great house it will mean 4 great houses in the basin with not much coming out of it except a line in the politics news board

It also means you have to deal with people you've never spoken with before who have the family name.

I actually have a clan to avoid such people who annoy me in my family.

Also I mean the family home could always be a different type of manse(it should only be built up through the actions of the family and rp not through manse boxes)

Maybe the family could raise an object somewhere, interact with the object to enter the private residence of the family (prime or aetherway planes)
The reason I suggest it is because even though family artifacts would be cool, having an interesting method for gaining them rather than it appearing on consideration is better imo.

Also family manses are a little annoying if you've ever tried to construct one, it's a large investment and multiple credit purchases before it would become anything like the suggested.

lol family aetherbubbles
Arin2008-03-02 08:12:20
I think providing the artis give no bonuses it would be nice. Just like an amulet or a brooch which never decays.

As for Prime land - that would be good. A 10 room house.

Gabranth2008-03-02 14:26:57
Although I hate being the lone dissenting voice since Gabranth's family is never likely to get 50 people given his poor record in relationships and Revan chronically driving people away, I will still comment.

I don't think a concept like this should be given that much extra benefit. A manse to work towards or increase by more family members will absolutely shred any pretense of being selective with family. d'Murani and Dekoven already take a lions share of new people in their respective city's. If new people are just a new room, where is value in making them family?

In effect they will be 1/15 people needed to give a more senior family member their own bedroom. I really don't see any benefit in reducing the value of families when great houses already kill diversity in their base organisation. New families should be encouraged to flourish not rewarding the heavily entrenched ones.
