Admin Message

Ok, so, am I the only one bothered by the little admin message that pops up now whenever you log in? I'm pretty sure we've had them in the past but they are usually taken down after awhile. I appreciate the announcements for time sensitive competitions but now it's just talking about the Domoth system. I'm not sure I see the necessity every time one logs in. Perhaps I'm nit-picking but I find it distracting for immersion. Is there a possibility that if the message is going to stay we can have a config option so that it doesn't pop up unless we look for it?

Quit crying. I don't see the problem with it and if that totally makes rp difficult, then we've got bigger problems to worry with.
Unknown2008-02-27 16:23:55
It was jarring at first, but I got more or less used to ignoring it now.
Unknown2008-02-27 16:39:12
Wow, I wonder what we will cry about next!

Oh, come on. It's a valid question, asking if there can be a config option to turn it on or off. There's no need to try and dismiss it this way. Some people like it, some don't. We play a game, people are welcome to have their opinions and make suggestions-- it might not be a good one, but the idea should still be discussed on its own merit, not dismissed as a "whine".

That said, I don't actually care myself about it either way. I'm in the same boat as Silferras-- I generally don't even see it except as a "block of text that I don't read". I didn't actually even notice that it was talking about something else.

Sheesh. It's not like it matters in the slightest to the people whining/crying about this idea being posted. Just ignore the thread if you don't like it, people.

There have always been admin messages, either announce credit sales or new events. You just notice it now because it looks a little different. You were used to it before, you can get used to it now.

To be fair, it's now also a bit more blatant. It used to be smaller and go away when credit sales were done. Now it's always there.

However, yes, it's not that hard to "get used to" (which, in my case at least, means "ignore completely" which I think kind of counters the whole reason for having announcements... but oh well).

Heh, I was evidently so used to it that I can't even remember that ever having been the case...what kinds of things did they put in there before, if you have any examples? I must just have skipped it along with all the "password accepted" spam.

There used to be a one-line "We're running a 15% credit sale at the moment! Yay! Buy Credits!" thing. Pretty easy to miss, being a one-liner. That was the only time they did it as far as I can recall.
Shiri2008-02-27 16:54:18
Oh, so it wasn't something they used for actual new info like this ascendant business.

I just think there is more pressing issues to be handled first.
Kharaen2008-02-27 17:07:41
I wouldn't mind a toggleable option for the admin message as well. I'm actually surprised there isn't already a config option for it.

There might be, but this should be an extremely simple little fix (since they've added new config options relatively easily in the past). It's not like it would actually take much of any time away from the more pressing issues, if it is as simple as it appears.

I mean, some pseudocode for the fix would be, during the login script of a character:
if (Config.AdminMessage) {showMessage();}

Then add that option to the config thing, True/False. Done. I don't know how exactly rapture works, but they DO have a number of configurable settings...

Fine. I want my message to blink blue/white, be underlined and bold. Also I want to be able to control how fast it blinks.

Thanks.

Now that would probably actually take a bit more work... but still possible, I think. huh.gif

In addition, every time someone says the name 'Luxi', it plays the song "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins to that person.
Kharaen2008-02-27 17:38:04
I think I can understand Rika's hate for Luxi now.

That one probably will never happen.
