So… I’ve been looking at combat in Lusternia a bit, and it seems to me that the majority of it revolves around tying up the opponent with mass quantities of afflictions until some kill condition is reached. Either half mana-absolve/wrack, whatever the telepaths have to kill at half ego, a damage kill, or afflict/rub soulless. I was just idly thinking what are some novel ideas regarding how combat could be prosecuted?

Since most classes revolve around giving an affliction TO an opponent …. why not a class that does the reverse. Takes a strength FROM the opponent.

Perhaps a witchdoctor, for instance. You could take some hair from the opponent, and thus reduce their charisma temporarily. Or if they are bleeding, take the essence of their blood to temporarily reduce their damage or max hp. Perhaps even being able to steal a defense, like timeslip or surge and temporarily use it.

Perhaps the kill condition would be, if you have “stolen” enough different components from your opponent, you can transmute them into a voodoo doll which allows you to cause direct damage/whatever to them as long as you are three rooms away. Or something.

The more I think about it, it is slightly veering into the world of warcraft Warlock debuffer class but you get the point.

The other thought was I always liked the idea of a customizable pet…which honestly the Guardian class is the closest to. But lets take that one step further. Perhaps a Rabbi “ish” golem maker.

Your Pet is a psudo-support character. Your class skill would allow you to buff their strength/damage/whathave you. However the key is your pet has a limited number of slots to accept buffs. So you could make him have faster balance and have extra hp, but he couldn’t be resistant to magic damage or throw lighting bolts, lets say. Perhaps you could even allow the pet to bodyguard you (random chance of taking the hit directed at you) or fight one square away.

Just some thoughts.

As per usual I support thinking, planning, and variation.

Go with your idea a bit perhaps? People like to hear things that sounds snazzy.
