I was just walking about Faethorn, trying to do the quest there but couldn't find the shield, when I saw the heads on pykes. Usually, I just roll my eyes and keep on moving. Later, I'm in Glomdoring and I'm leaving the commune to go look for pilgrims when I come across the same thing.
So the idea is this:
Instead of just for pure gross-out affect, why not make them useful? Give the Guardian classes an ability (Night, Sacraments, Moon, Nihilism) that causes the heads to attack commune enemies?
What's the catch?
1. Must be on Commune/City central land i.e., in the commune or in the respective plane associated with the commune/city. You can't activate them anywhere else.
2. They fire at 3:4 intervals. Nothing at all like choke or anything of the sort.
3. The afflictions are based on the Guardian type classes (wiccans/guardians).
IDEAS
Moon: Causes aeon
Night: Causes loss of Equilibrium
Nihilism: Causes rigormortis
Sacraments: Causes amnesia
Thoughts?
The heads would look something like this:
Daedalion enters from the north.
A wooden pike, displaying the head of Thoros, suddenly twists towards Daedalion on its pyke, causing the rotting flesh to squish sickeningly, before opening its mouth and releasing an ear-splitting scream.
Thoughts?

I find it pointless that Trackers are the ones who do the decapitating, shrinking, and spiking, but then another person has to come along and make it useful. Let Trackers be the ones who make it useful.
Asarnil2008-03-17 05:56:18
Notice how she gives Seren Aeon and Glom something virtually useless?
Gregori2008-03-17 06:00:51
That would make more sense if she was Seren, not Glom.

That could work. Maybe make trackers able to infuse the heads with some sort of chemical?

I know she's Glom, I just find it amusing that she gives Seren the retardedly overpowered one and everyone else the barely useful to the useless.

Heh...if it was a walks-into-room effect, aeon would actually be LESS useful than the night one, since it wouldn't go through quicksilver.

Why wouldn't it? Just behead Shiri twice.

The Guardian archetypes would use a spiritual/religious energy, Trackers can do the same. They share a spiritual bond with their companions so it wouldn't be out of their league to perform a ceremony for such a thing.
Rakor2008-03-17 15:38:23
This would be interesting, and even better if alarms were re-introduced, so you can tell when someone actually hits your traps.
Also Shiri don't lie, aeon is much better than equilibrium disruption even if it does only remove quicksilver, since a Moondancer can walk in right after and aeon you up.

A moondancer isn't gonna walk in in 6 seconds unless you're excessively unlucky...the off-eq is functionally similar to the stun-ganking bard thing, stops you running through too fast in a place you can't have a totem or statue.
EDIT: Unless you can have 2, as Xenthos said. Then aeon is better.

If it's going to be just another debate on which effect is better, why not make the heads simply yell at the intruder and send a tell to the Tracker? Or speak on the Tracker's GT?
Daganev2008-03-17 17:44:11
I like the GT idea.
Much better than the do some random affliction idea.
Unless the random affliction was something minor and not totem/statue like.
edit: By GT I mean the Tracker's GT, i.e. the warrior guild.
I always found it ironic that the warrior guilds all have these "protect org" rps, but don't actually have any mechanical way to improve thier protection of the org over the other guilds.
Sorry Marina.

I disagree with the original post. No need at all.
I like the idea of heads alerting the Tracker/Tracker's guild, but I don't see it as necessary enough to bother coding.
That said, there is definitely one change I (along with my Tracker buddies) would like to decapitated heads: Trackers should be able to wear the heads they shrink, much like clothing or jewelry. So when someone looks at the Tracker, they can see a variety of shrunken heads hanging off!

I'd prefer if decapitate was put into combat/environment/whatever so we can all share in the fun, if anything.
Nerra2008-03-17 21:50:35
Well... it'd be cool if necromancers could animate the heads to announce when someone (personal enemies maybe?) enteres the room.
The decapitated head of nerra says, "I see you, Malacia." Would be useful to know whencloacked people enter a room^_^ (Unless there's another way no one is telling me about)

I really like the GT idea. That would be awesome.
Unknown2008-03-17 23:17:09
why not envenom them, as in the combat skill, and they can breathe out a cloud which hits with that poison, to all enemies they are tuned to?
Just for reference, this would more or less do just as totem/statue would, but I don't know that one can use the charybdon effct, or crotamine

Everiine2008-03-18 01:23:49
I don't suggest using it as yet another Totem or Statue, but some use for it would be nice. I like the idea of being able to wear them, like little tokens on your belt or something.
Actually, we could just do that as part of our description... *runs off to change his description*

Or just allow BM, AL and PB to chop off the head of corpses. I don't get why we can behead a living body, but not a dead one.
