I makes me wonder how to pronounce it.
Like.. knock? notch? not?
Shiri2008-03-23 01:52:06
Nokt. That's pretty close anyway.

Ok. How do you pronounce that? Is the t silent? Or is it more like 'knocked' only with a kinda more 't' sound to the end?
Ashteru2008-03-23 01:55:17
More because it's the word for night in my german dialect.

The ch is a kind of German noise. I don't really know how to write it in phonetic symbols (and you couldn't read it anyway.) The t is normal. I think you'd be relatively safe pronouncing the ch as a k and the t as normal.
Ashteru2008-03-23 02:01:25
If you are looking for the german pronounciation: It's kind of like No-that ending from slough-d.
Unknown2008-03-23 02:02:16
The 'ch' is like pronouncing the c in 'coo'. Well, if that made any sense.
And Shikari is totally the Urdu word for Hunter.

So, it is basicly the word knocked only with a more t sound on the end. (I wish I could like post a recording of me saying it so I could see if I'm saying it right, but that's the best I can describe what I'm saying. )
Shiri2008-03-23 02:08:54
No! The ck in knocked is different to the ch in nocht. Ashteru described it better (only he put slough instead of slaugh, but I assume he meant slaugh. Slough is more like an f sound, I think.)

but the ck in knock is the exact same as the c in coo.

Not our fault Synl is using terrible comparisons!

I figure, pronounce like Nokt, or if you will, Knocked
So, is he supposed to replace Shikari, since Shikari is supposedly inactive?
