I'm scared about playing this game in general as I'm not a very fast typer or good speller, but reading through these help files I find I must address certain people (who these people are I have no idea) with certain titles that I will not readily remember or even remember how to spell. For instance Seditionist, Secretaries, Iconoclast, Heresiarch, and Mystagogue. Who are these people, how will I recognize them, will that be in their title so I can just copy and paste it when addressing them or something, or have my choices been all wrong. Is there a place where I can relax and not worry about having to address certain people I don't know or don't recognize a certain way. If I don't address these people with their proper titles is there some form of punishment or will I be repremended in some way or am I just freaking out? Also I keep reading and rereading help files and all I can tell is that for now I should be killing rats until I'm level 21 and hopefully at that time I've have spent the necessary amount of time in the guild to move up (at which point I'm sure I'll be lost on what to do from there) is this correct?

Welcome to the guild!
If you use GW or GWHO you will see if someone is guildmaster, secretary, etc which relates to their positions. They may or may not care based on how strict they are, you will get a warning if they want you to call them by it, or will correct you by giving their title. For instance calling me Malarious, will likey get me to say 'Lord Fist, and yes?'
Dont be too concerned about it, just try to learn as you go.

Yeah, Nihilists are the worst guild with title names. I have a hard time remembering them as well. And Mag is a snooty city, so they really do expect you to use titles all the time. It becomes second habbit though, after a while.

The Nihilists aren't THAT bad, and they don't expect you to be perfect, so long as you try

Overall people tend to be understanding towards new players (Magnagora can be snotty at times, yes), so I wouldn't worry too much. Most people will give you some leeway and generally you are allowed to learn at your own pace. There really isn't any need to freak out.

When in doubt, ASK QUESTIONS
You WON'T look like an idiot. If you don't ask, you won't know, and THEN you will look like an idiot

When in doubt "Sir" or "Ma'am" works well. I've developed the habit of never calling anyone by name until I learn their title, and even then I rarely say anyone's name. HONOURing someone will show their title, usually. It's kinda jerkish to force people to call you a title which can't be accessed by younger players quickly. Mainly a guild title that's obvious in the title, or a city rank.
Hunt in Newton. Rats only get you so far. After Newton, ask guild members for advice.

Also, you will have lich, and people will try to make you pray because of it

When in doubt, talk to Shaddus, he's awesome, and loves to help novices

You've done fine so far.

The Mystagogue and Heresiarch are two of the three guild leaders. Seditionists are in charge of helping novices. Iconoclasts are like Seditionists, but more important.Urth are novices. Penitents are low ranking guild members just above Urth. Brothers and Sisters are regular guild people.
I'm pretty sure that Malarious is the only people with a title other than the one you should call them. Malarious is the Fist of Luciphage.

As long as you aren't rude, most people will not bother you about forgetting the titles.

Again, unless you're being obnoxious, you have nothing to worry about. At worst, they'll remind you of their proper title.QUOTE

Hunting in newton or doing stuff in the college is best. Doing college stuff will get you some info on where stuff is and what the history of Magnagora is. If you feel like it, you could take some of the Urth exams to get out of novicehood faster.

Do not try to scare off new players Arix.
Arix2008-05-09 04:03:06
EDIT: Never mind, you'll find out eventually. Just steer clear of Celestians and you'll do fine
Unknown2008-05-09 04:24:26
College? Where is that and what is there to do in it? I don't know about taking an exam, I tend to do bad at exams.
I had no idea there was such an ability, though I can understand resentment I can't imagen why someone would willing -not- use an ability they have regardless of what anyone has to say about it.

Where is this collegium?
Arix2008-05-09 04:50:49
ask your citymates
Nariah2008-05-09 08:58:41
Don't stress yourself over this, Ballum! Sure Magnagora is snotty as far as hierarchy goes, sure we put a great weight on titles in the Nihilists and sure those titles are hard to remember like hell but we're seriously not nazi about it. I assure you I had as much trouble remembering titles as you are having now and I kept misspelling Mystagogue and Heresiarch for months
Most of us have titles in our names too so that should make it a lot easier and HONOURS
Ask for help with Collegium on the College aether (CGT

Crap, it's the Heresiarch, run!!

I had several alts in Magnagora - the city tends to be rather quiet unless there is something (read: Celestians raiding) going on, but they're rather nice for novices. ICly they are elitist pricks, but they won't treat novvies like that unless the novice is an idiot and deserves it anyway.
To find the collegium, read the map on the website. It's a lot of help. Also I want to stress out what was said before - rats are inferior in terms of gold and experience. Go to Newton (or even better yet, Lolliprin - but you enter it from Newton), do collegium quests, and so on.
