My rant:
Gorgogs teaming up... only to notice that they're now counted as a nation... *sigh* there goes our favorite bashing spot.

At least we can protect merians now... in a way... *grumble*

Following my own advice and making a thread to reply instead of continuing in Lack of Rants. Though it's not an argument, I do feel the admin has been going down the wrong path here.

It's not like I even hunt gorgogs anymore, but I want to know why they were changed to be a nation. It's pretty backwards. In terms of Avenger fairness there are two things an area should be doing. If it has a quest in it that can be used to harm people (change from the default state), stopping or counteracting said quest should not require you getting avengered and peaced for hours. If you want to do conflict quests, you initiate the conflict. Also, people should not be able to jump you there for no good reason and get away with it.

Current enemy status in most of the areas that do so has the -opposite- effect on both.
If I set the gorgog quest on, annoying Celestians EDIT: and I guess Magnagorans, and making aggro small-person-killing mobs, also used to steal sand/spectres but stopped for one reason or another, I can then sit in the gorgog island and prevent people doing the counter quest. If someone tries to stop said small-person-mob-killing I can attack them for getting enemied to the gorgogs. Attacking me gets them peaced for a fight I started.
Additionally, no one really has a reason to protect gorgogs. Yet if I see Geb bashing there and feel like victimising someone, I can simply go and kill him easily (with the mobs helping me) with no repercussions.
This also seems to have had an unwanted side-effect of making the mobs team and thus the area a whole lot harder. Given their pretty good experience and gold output it's not really -that- bad in this case but it was still better the way it was before.

The problem people brought up before was that policy is inconsistent between places like the gorgog caves and places like Shallamurine Cathedral. Unfortunately the admin seem to have gone the wrong direction in making them consistent, and actively made a good area worse instead of improving areas with poor Avenger mechanics. I hope we aren't in for a similar change with the aslaran and krokani places. People have RP (or flimsy excuses, both exist) based on protecting those areas just as do the merian-protectors, but they should be the ones dealing with Avenger consequences for the fights they start there, not the people trying to bash their experience back up.

This is the only part of your post I don't concur with.

The man has no mercy!

Geb makes a great example for these kinds of things since as everyone knows he's one of Celest's most helpless newbies.

I agree. I can sort of see Merians because of Shallach, but I would personally have preferred removing Shallach's enemy status instead of adding in status on Merians. Gorgogs just don't make sense to me as an enemy-prone civilization, and gorgogs are the hunting area of choice in Bondero Bay.

Though I have the same note as Shiri: I've only hunted gorgogs once in the last month I think, and I found a whole one in the cave system that single time. I do remember once upon a time when they were my primary hunting spot, however, and I don't really see the reason for taking that away from others.

I think with gorgogs, the teaming aspect is the worst of it. They like to cluster around in groups of 4-5 in some parts of those caves! Even ignoring Avenger protection, this makes it impossible for a lot of classes to consistently bash them any more, even if they are lucky enough to find the caves with gorgogs in them.
Lysandus2008-04-25 16:57:21
Apparently, someone found it funny to put in traps all over the place to increase the chance of dying to gorgogs and get away avenger free. Gee, I wonder who it is?!?! Hmm...

That's actually not me.

Not me either. It's the primary part of Tracking, and I rarely use it.

Ffft. Everyone knows Everiine only logs in to grief novices, and see how many braves he can reduce to tears. The only reason you weren't trapping Gorgogs is because you were busy doing the whole alabaster road. Admit it. smile.gif

Doing the "alabaster road"? Is this something I have to Urbandictionary?

ohmy.gif Nonsense, I haven't killed a novice since we lost Estelbar. And Braves Love me! LOOOOOOOOVE me!!!! dribble.gif

And no ragging on me and the Alabaster Road, I'm cool with it, it's cool with it, we both get what we want and know it will never be a true relationship.

ANYWAY

I hope this doesn't happen to all hunting areas... sometimes you just need a good neutral area to take out your frustrations on. I understand why this might have been done for the Merians, but the gorgogs?

All the admin really did here was give PK whores open season on pretty much everyone... since gorgogs and merians are hunted by almost everyone. Bad move imo
Rika2008-04-25 21:16:56
I agree with all points made. However, a small rave because the number of people who actually hunt there has dropped significantly.

PS, Shiribot needs to stop griefing Geb. nono.gif
Malarious2008-04-25 22:03:18
I would be open to gorgogs and merians going back to how they were. I assume they enemy for slaying one, and the teaming is kind of irksome. It was just made alot less bashable.

I know Celest wants to be able to defend Merian but this will only cause problems for people as gorgogs become griefing territory.
Malicia2008-04-25 22:08:40
I think it's great that Celest can finally defend merian. Not gorgogs though.
Hyrtakos2008-04-25 22:21:43
Enemy status should be acquired in every area with sentient beings now. There's really no reason for it not to be.

I suppose it will put an end to RPing Clint Eastwood in A fistful of dollars, and playing both sides... but I think "Wait a second, I remember you killing me five minutes ago" is a logical response most people should have. Afterall, allowing the Avenger to protect people on prime was a terrible idea anyway. He should just grief highwaymen.

I wouldn't compare a bunch of centaurs to merian! don-t_mention.gif
