Tierstone changes........

What was the point of this, taking one skill and turning it into two? I don't see the point other than to be annoying.
Leiliadhe2008-05-08 03:49:31
Yes, it is highly annoying. Someone wanted an abbreviated scry for use during chasing people, to avoid the spam of a full gaze into someone's room. Which isn't a bad idea, but this change sucks. They should just return Gaze to exactly what it used to do, and add scry as a lower-powered alternative that doesn't spam.

Edit: These changes also broke scrying into/out of manses... again. *golf clap for Lusternia's crazy unstable code that will one day snap and kill us all*
Asmodea2008-05-08 09:47:57
Well that lazy ass should have gotten themselves a scry or window enchantment!
Rika2008-05-08 10:01:36
I now know who envoyed this. I shall now spam scry him (after all, the spam for me has been shortened a lot tongue.gif) as revenge.

I'm a little confused, too. Maybe it was just to make the seeing stones more special?
Ialie2008-05-08 10:21:01
It did nothing to change the function it seems. Seeing stones can still do what they always have, but now it just seems unwieldy. I thought it was fine before. Not sure why someone had to come in and change one syntax into two.

I'm saying that the seeing stone artifact now seems more useful than the jewelry tierstone. I could be misunderstanding the change and the differences between the two things, however.

Oops! okay. Sorry when I said seeing stones above I meant tierstones.
Rika2008-05-08 11:21:34
The change was made so people trying to chase someone in the same area with the tierstone will be able to get the room name only, instead of the gaze spam. I'm with Leiliadhe in that gaze should be kept the same with the extra scry.

As I said earlier, they should get themselves a scry or window enchantment instead of screwing with everyone's tierstones who didn't want them changed

I agree.

Hmph!

I answer to this thread in the stupidest way possible.
Whats a Tierstone?
Rika2008-05-10 00:19:44
Transcendant jewellery. Can TIERSTONE GAZE to see into the room as if you're doing a LOOK, but only if in same area. TIERSTONE SCRY is just a scry and TIERSTONE PLANEGAZE (and TIERSTONE FOCUS) is a QWHO from wherever to whichever plane you've got it focussed on.

Didn't use to have tierstone scry, just gaze, which was scry if not in same area and seeing stone effect if in same area.
Jasato2008-05-20 08:57:27
Alright, so lemme get this straight...

TIERSTONE GAZE = Only useable by the owner if target is within the same area (i.e. Tierstone Gaze if she's in the same area, and it comes up with her, what room she's in, what's there, etc. etc.)

TIERSTONE SCRY = Only useable if someone is -outside- your area, thus giving only the room location and where the room is.

....if that's the case, CHANGE IT BACK!!! Seriously, there was no need for that. Now, instead of using one syntax, to find whoever you need, it's broken up to two causing more confusion in times of need.

I was wondering why, all this time, I thought my Tierstone was 'broken'! I know it's been a few months, but come on....the tierstone was fine as it was!
Xiel2008-05-20 10:01:56
...you lot. It's two syntaxes. Nothing changed but a syntax and people cause an uproar. Get over it.
Shiri2008-05-20 10:19:28
Just...make your alias do both?
Tervic2008-05-20 11:06:55
I think the point is why can't it work like that Crow spying skill-thing does, by giving you the more detailed info automatically if the target is in the local area, and automatically giving the less detailed information if they're outside said local area. I'm pretty sure that it's code-wise possible because of this, and the new tierstone needing two syntaxes.... just seems silly.

Actually, Tervic here just nailed it on the head. It worked fine before without having two syntax's, why change it now?

Plus, it may not be a big deal for those who don't use it, but if there was a change to one of -your- precious skills that threw off your own 'flow', you'd be like this as well.

If you're talking about Crow Birdseye (which is scry-ish), all that it does is tell you what area the person is in and if they are in the same area as you, you can see the room name. It's not very good sad.gif

At the same time, it doesn't get caught by Aethersight (intentionally) since it's same-plane same-continent and more of a physical than a mystical check. I actually use it frequently for that reason.
