QUOTE
Syntax: ASTROCAST METEOR AT
DRAW ZODIAC IN
Damage Type: 50% Fire, 50% Magical
Damage Source: Magic

Those who study the stars are acutely aware that the celestial bodies in
the heavens are many, and that the planets are but the largest. While
the stars answer the call of none, it is possible - though difficult -
to summon down a meteor from the heavens.

In order to do this, one must first draw a zodiac circle in either salt
or blood upon the ground in a place with a clear view of the heavens.
Though any who study Astrology may draw such a circle, only those with
mastery of the meteor know its grim purpose. Once done, you may call the
fury of the stars upon any transgressor who is affected by a negative
zodiac sphere. The full force of the meteor will depend upon how many
negative zodiac spheres by which the transgressor is affected. The
summoning will consume all of the negative zodiac spheres in the
process.

Additionally, a lesser amount of damage may be done to your personal
enemies who stand too close to the focal point of the summoning.
And

QUOTE
Syntax: ASTROCAST METEOR AT MAJORUS
Power: 10 (Any)
Damage Type: 50% Fire, 50% Magical
Damage Source: Magic

The full fury of the stars are unleashed by the master Astrologist, who
may call down the meteor majorus in the same manner as the minorus.
However, unlike its lesser version, the majorus shall deal equal damage
to your personal enemies as it shall to the focal target of the
summoning. The full fury of the meteor depends upon the number of
negative zodiac spheres affecting the focal target.

It's hard to say much about these two right now. I'm rather interested in knowing just what the difference is between a "lesser amount of damage" and a "full amount of damage", such to the point that majorus costs 10 power whereas minorus costs none. Although majorus doesn't have any notes regarding having to draw a zodiac circle, so assuming you can bypass that step, that would definitely explain the cost hike.

draw zodiac in salt

Gathering a handful of salt, you sprinkle it around the ground in a ritual
zodiac circle, being careful to clearly mark each of the planets and
constellations of the zodiac.
3102h, 3156m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9428w x /19:03:08.873/-

A luminous spirit descends from the heavens and merges with Narsrim, whose eyes
suddenly shine with a bright white light.
3102h, 3156m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9428w x /19:03:10.044/-

You have recovered equilibrium.
3102h, 3156m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9428w ex /19:03:11.075/-
astrocast meteor at narsrim

Standing in the centre of a ritual zodiac circle drawn in salt, you cast your
hands up towards the stars and beseech the celestial bodies for the gift of
absolute destruction, feeling their terrible power fill you. You point an
imperious finger at Narsrim and the spheres of the zodiac glow brightly as the
blackness between the stars grows, an ominous shadow falling across the ground.
3102h, 2756m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9328w x /19:03:11.625/-

The darkness in the skies grows ominously large, blotting out the stars as it
approaches.
3102h, 2756m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9334w x /19:03:14.746/-

You have recovered equilibrium.
3102h, 2756m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9334w ex /19:03:14.985/-

The darkness in the sky bursts into fire as the meteor descends through the
atmosphere, hurtling towards your victim. It crashes into the ground at
Narsrim's feet and explodes in an enveloping holocaust of fire and destructive
magic, annihilating everything in its path with the unbridled power of celestial
bodies colliding.
3102h, 2913m, 3286e, 10p, 12440en, 9340w x /19:03:17.632/-

A ritual zodiac circle drawn in salt is blown away by the wind, dispersing into
the air.

Meteor Minorus.

*coughcough Final Fantasy ripoff cough cough *

Actually, pretty awesome. Damage, and spheres on him?
Kaguya2008-05-07 02:14:37
And if you want to draw a zodiac circle in blood, it looks like it needs to come from a container. So far as I know, that means if you want to use blood, you'll need to get it from an artifact fountain, yes? I don't know of any other blood source in the game. If the only difference between salt and blood is flavour messages, though, then that should be fine.
Sarrasri2008-05-07 02:19:19
You can just use salt from your rift for it. Blood needs to come from a vial. I suppose blood would be more useful in situations where you don't want to outr salt (choke), and salt is pretty good to use all other times. It's pretty neat, does a buttload of damage, damage increasing with the amount of negative spheres on the person. If there are enough negative spheres, it's essentially an instakill.

I think you can get Blood from the pool on the Night Aetherbubble.

...why... why... why add something so cool and make me want to go wiccan again crying.gif
Nariah2008-05-07 11:29:46
I only tested the damage on Melville so far and he's a viscanti with nice resistances, yet it still hit him for around 1800 with just one negative sphere (a -10% fire one and the attack is 50/50 fire/magic). It escalated to around 2500 I think with two spheres and above that with three. With three negatives and omen it killed him at his over 4k health. Personal enemies in the room got hit for like 600 but consider it its maximum as I was testing against Terakh whom I think has some related weaknesses and probably no proofings etc.

The meteor shower with just one negative to both people I tested on did equal damage to the simple meteor skill and set the area on fire. The inferno kept raging on for quite a while in the room setting everyone, including me, on fire over and over.

Granted I'm no combat expert but those skills look really awesome and pretty balanced to me. With the pre-requisites needed in time, willpower and endurance (spheres eat at those faaaast), power and the target not moving (pentagram beforehand doesn't let it initiate, during it has no effect) it seems as complex as the rest of Astrology. I think it's quite interesting how this insta kill turned out to be so varied! content.gif

Guess I should have harvested the blood in Starhaven's fountain last month.

I've just tried to do that with vials and a bucket. No dice. Or blood. Ah well, at least regular salt can be used and it's not just magic salt.
Rakor2008-05-07 16:16:42
I thought if you had an empty vial you could just drain your own blood into it? Or is that Achaea I'm thinking of.

There was a change of MeteorMajorus to MeteorStorm. Here's the AB.
QUOTE
ASTROLOGY - METEORSTORM

Syntax: ASTROCAST METEOR STORM
Power: 10 (Any)
Damage Type: 50% Fire, 50% Magical
Damage Source: Magic

The full fury of the stars are unleashed by the master Astrologist, who
may call down the meteor storm in a similar manner to the lesser meteor
strike: first by drawing a zodiac circle under the open sky.

However, unlike the lesser spell, the meteor storm shall deal the full
fury of the celestial bodies' wrath to all your personal enemies in the
location - provided they are labouring under the energies of a negative
zodiac sphere. The zodiac spheres will be consumed by the summoning and
converted into raw destructive fury.

It's awesome because now you don't need to target someone specifically to use it like before.

Yah, I vaguely recall being able to slit your wrists and drain into things in Achaea... like three years ago... hrm.
