So, I get out of an arena fight, and get this (( Edited for content))

*Ariadne kills Ledrix*

(Magnagora): Ariadne says, "Yes, I did. If you want to go and act like a fool at
a nexus, goto Serenwilde."

(Magnagora): You say, "What is the problem?"

(Magnagora): Ledrix says, "I was dancing at the nexus and killed in cold blood."

(RandomClan): Ariadne says, "Shaddus, put the serfs in place."

of Doom.
Centre of the Necropolis. Yukio Auralius is
here, shrouded. He wields a long black chain with steel scythes with both hands.
Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way is here. He wields an iron chain with both
hands. Penitent Ariadne, the Silent is here. She wields an iron shield in her
left hand and a blighted symbol of pestilence in her right. Urth Cuthbert,
Instrument of the Fates is here. Deathguard Vathael d'Murani towers here. He
wields an unadorned darksteel rapier in his left hand and a coiling skeletal
rapier in his right. Urth Wrin, Instrument of the Fates is here.

Yukio tells you, "Ariadne killed Ledrix because he was dancing at the nexus."

You peer at Ledrix unscrupulously.

You blink.

Ledrix nods his head emphatically.

(RandomClan): You say, "You killed Ledrix for dancing?"

(RandomClan): You say, "Rofl."

"Tsk, tsk," you say to Ledrix as you waggle a finger at him.

(RandomClan): Ariadne says, "I told him to do it elsewhere."

(RandomClan): Vathael says, "The "funky chicken"."

"Eh?" Ledrix says curiously to you.

You say, "Ninjakari do NOT dance in public."

(RandomClan): Ariadne says, "He comes back and does it again just to spite me."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Well i know that now."

(RandomClan): Melville says, "Lol."

You say, "Nor do we disrespect someone of a higher ranking."

(RandomClan): Melville says, "I dance at the megalith sometimes."

Ariadne nods her head at you.

Penitent Ariadne, the Silent says, "Thank you, Sohei."

Deathguard Vathael d'Murani says, "Apparently it is a lack of discipline in your
guild members."

(RandomClan): Ariadne says, "You're a champ."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Serinating someone with dance is
disrespectfull?"

You nod your head at Vathael, showing your acceptance.

You say, "Dancing when someone of a higher rank asks you specifically not to,
is."

Ledrix mumbles incoherently.

You tilt your head and listen intently to Ledrix.

You say, "I don't think I heard you."

You say, "Was that a " Yes, Sohei"?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Breaking a law obviously holds less
importance than the annoyance of someone of moderate importance."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "I guess you don't see the
disgusting nature of that."

You say to Ledrix, "Meet me in the guild hall. Now."

You point to the northwest.
Madara tells you, "My my, someone has an attituuude."
You tell Delver in the Sands, Madara d'Murani, "No, someone hates when people
talk back."

*walkingspam, in guild hall*
You beckon to Ledrix.

Ledrix begins to follow you.

You say, "Explain a few things to me."

You say, "Number one, why do you not have Ninjakari, OR kata, as a skill?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "I forgot them to put the lessons in
stealth."

You say, "So, you didn't read the scroll as to what to learn, when you joined
the guild?"

You say, "And this whole time, when you could have been helping defend the city,
you had no way to do so?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Yes and i learned them...but i
wanted to get stealth up to rushing and was planning on putting credits in
ninjakari as of today."

You look about yourself, rubbing your chin thoughtfully.

You say, "Fix it."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Oh don't give me that "defending
the city" when the city just struck me down for an annoyance."

You say, "Silence."

You say, "Now, you may speak back to another city mate, and believe yourself
immune, but I am your guild admin. You will show respect, or leave us. Is that
clear?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Yes Sohei."

You say, "Now then."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Sorry just troubled by that cities
decisions not yours."

You raise an eyebrow at Ledrix.

You say, "If someone in the city kills you, you may come to me to complain."

You say, "However, you MUST show resepct for those of a higher rank, in your
guild, or NOT."

You say, "Is that understood?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "That is understood."

You say, "Now then."

You say, "Ariadne killing you was wrong, to be sure."

You say, "I will speak with her."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Thank you."

You say, "HOWEVER. It is NOT your decision that it is wrong, it is mine."

Ledrix nods his head emphatically.

You say, "IF Ariadne decides to kill you, for the Nil of it, you will either
fight back, or die. If you have a problem, you come to me. Is that understood?"

You look about yourself, rubbing your chin thoughtfully.

You move about quickly and lose Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way.

You say, "Stand here."

The display hall.
A dark, murky pool roils at one end of this hall, a slim golden platform jutting
towards its heart. Falling just short of the dock hangs a long, metal chain,
offering a slim chance of hope for those who wish to cross. The walls and
ceiling are lined with varnished ravenwood, small runes carved and lined with
gold along the edges of each plank. The hallway stretches on, glass cases lining
the walls. Each display has been closed, their hinged faces locked tight against
those with ill intent. Every shelf has been decorated with grotesque fetishes
and talismans, monstrous in shape and fashion, many crusted with blood of that
which it was carved from. Crimson candles are placed at the edges of the bottom
shelves, casting about a cruel and angry light, sputtering and flickering on
occasion. Lying flat on the ground is a key-shaped sigil. Kyoodai Ledrix,
Apprentice of the Way is here. He wields an iron chain with both hands.
You see exits leading northeast and south (closed door).

You press against the pine door, phasing your body through and exiting to the
other side.
The door to the north slams shut.
The door to the north slams shut.
The Heresy Asylum.
An elegant darkwood chair stands here, silver scrollwork shining. A dark wood
chest rests here, its lid propped open. There are 3 finely wrought mahogany
chairs here. A massive blood-red mahogany desk with spectral legs sits here
ominously with its drawers opened. A carpet as red as blood lies here, warming
the ground.
You see a single exit leading north (closed door).

You sit yourself down on a darkwood seawolf chair and make yourself comfortable.

You tell Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way, "Port to me."

Ledrix tells you, "At rushing right now i can't do that yet."

You tell Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way, "You don't have teleport, do
you?"

You tell Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way, "Stand still."

Ledrix tells you, "No."

You violently grab some strands of aether and whip them out towards Ledrix.

*Ledrix pops in*

You sit yourself down on a darkwood seawolf chair and make yourself comfortable.

You say, "Take a seat."

Ledrix sits down.

You give a pained sigh.

You say, "In a chair."

Ledrix stands up and stretches his arms out wide.

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way sit's down in a fine mahogany chair.

You cough softly.

You say, "Sit on chair."

Ledrix sits himself down on a finely wrought mahogany chair and makes himself
comfortable.

You nod your head emphatically.

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Yeah that works too."
You say, "Well then."

A wry smile spreads across your face.

You say, "Indeed."

You say, "Now. Circle 60, but no ninjakari. How did you accomplish this?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Well i recently acheived a large
sum of credits and forgot what i had learned in ninjakari to see what the
effects of rushing were in stealth."

You thrust your palm towards your forehead and hit it with a resounding *smack*!

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Yeah...well i didn't know there
would be lesson loss or anything like that."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "I thought it was reversable."

You say, "So, you gave up ninjakari, your way to fight, just to see what rushing
does?"

Looking downtrodden, you sadly shake your head.

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way wields an iron chain.

Ledrix gives a pained sigh.

You look about yourself, rubbing your chin thoughtfully.

You say, "What do you think I should do about this?"

"Eh?" Ledrix says curiously.

You say, "Brother, to be honest, you are a detriment to the Ninjakari, until you
can fight again."

You say, "You are not able to defend. Should a aquamancer spout come waltzing
into the city, and attack you, you can do nothing but run."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Well like i said...today, and i
mean anytime today i will be very knowledgable of ninjakari again."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Or a citymate."

Ledrix coughs softly.

A wry smile spreads across your face.

You give a pained sigh.

You say, "Make sure you do."

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Joining the games?"

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Oh i will."

You shake your head.

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "In fact right after this
conversation."

You say, "Put lessons into planar to get teleport. I want to see you to
Ninjakari before the weave is over."

Ledrix nods his head emphatically.

You say, "Understood?"

You nod your head emphatically.

Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way says, "Yes."

You get up off a darkwood seawolf chair.

You say, "Dismissed."

"Heh heh heh" Ledrix chuckles.

You teleport along the aether strands to the Megalith of Doom.

You tell Penitent Ariadne, the Silent, "Thank you for straightening out Ledrix,
by the way. Do me a favour though, and tell me before you kill a ninjakari,
especially a young one ? tongue.gif."

Ledrix tells you, "Thank you for being lenient, i was just really bothered by
the whole situation being overlooked the way it was."

Ariadne tells you, "Hehe k."

You tell Kyoodai Ledrix, Apprentice of the Way, "No worries."

You sent the following message to Ariadne: Oh, and as a side note. I apologize
for my guildmembers abrupt rudeness, and if it happens again, I will personally
remove his head and make a funny mask from it

Eh.

From the actions (putting lessons in stealth, being a deliberate jackass, knowing about credits) it looks like you had an alt or an experienced someone from another IRE game. So normal novice "Welcome to lusternia, let me give you a few pointers about the unwritten rules" don't necessarily apply here.

Was it heavy handed? Yes but that is Mag's roleplay.

Could it have been handled better? Meh sure. But that sort of depends on the response of the individual in question. And they in effect said I'll do what I want scream.gif you.
Kaalak2008-05-30 22:10:21
Also one does not join a ninja clan saying "Hi I'm here and I'll do what I want". Walk into a real dojo and do that and watch how quickly you get thrown to the mat. If you are lucky. ohyeah.gif

Charlotte C? Are you there?!??
Morgfyre2008-05-30 22:22:14
I have a concern about berating the player for their choice of lessons. It has been a strict admin policy for a while now that players should be free to learn whatever they want. If the Ninjakari are requiring players to utilize their lessons in a certain way (or if not de jure, a de facto policy as this log seems to indicate), that will draw some negative admin attention pretty quickly. What's going on there?

Wha?

And for reference, Ledrix had been around for a little bit, was about to make gr2, I believe.

Cghelp Ninjakari

*Stuff, scroll down*
Now you need to learn the following from a tutor, preferably Ardrak at
the Megalith or a fellow Ninjakari work best.
- Kata skill to Strength (total 45 lessons)
- Stealth skill to Sign (total 7 lessons)
- Planar skill to rift ability (total 22 lessons)
- Discipline skill to clotting ability (total 7 lessons)
- Discernment skill to diagnose ability (total 25 lessons)
- Combat skill to envenom ability (total 11 lessons)

True, he can forget what he wishes. That's why I pretty much just told him to "fix it"

And, because this would be like an admin discovering their guild mate no longer had elementalism, nor knighthood. I am sure some people would join just to make, say, an herb picking alt, or a jeweler alt. But it's sort of frowned on.
Hazar2008-05-30 22:35:11
Yeah. That was wierd.
Everiine2008-05-30 22:36:38
Every guild has a set of lessons they want novices to learn. But if a novice wants to put all of their lessons into Riding, that's their choice. They'll feel the mistake later on without getting literally yelled at and told to "Change or else". RP has to take a back seat to newbie stuff.

Yeah, this is absolutely spot on. Forcing or intimidating a player to learn anything is a big no. A player should be free to learn whatever they want, even if it is outlandish by most standards. An MMO like Lusternia is about exploring the world on your own terms, after all. People can play single player games if they want their method of gameplay dictated to them, and get much shinier graphics in the process.
Kiradawea2008-05-30 22:53:49
Every guild has that I believe. A set of lessons that newcomers need. For example, the Celestines, at least used too, require that you learned Celestialism to Cherub before you could reach GR5. The expectations really aren't much, but I think more there to reflect that if you want to be in the guild, you have to put some work into the guild. Guildmembers should be able to count on other guildmembers for a few minor things.

No, I understand what Morgfyre is saying, I shouldn't have berated him like I did, though I DO believe I took it easy on him.

Still, as guild admin, I was trying to nurture his growth. I mean, he COULDN'T bash, couldn't do anything, really, to gain exp, besides quests. And in the Engine of Transformation, if you don't grow and adapt, you die :>

blink.gif That was easy? blackeye.gif Remind me not to make a Ninjakari alt and get on your bad side.
Nariah2008-05-31 01:15:02
huh.gif Well that's kinda his choice really although I don't think pointing it out to a non-novice was a bad thing. The bad thing, in my opinion, was siding with a person breaking city law in public. The way, I at least, would have done it is tell the person to shut it and file a complaint against them for touching your guild mates and abusing rank, and then take the guild mate aside and berate them for being an idiot. This way you, as a representative of your Guild and supposed role model, would not be praising and thanking someone for breaking the law, thus also avoid enforcing the image that people can get away with such dire crimes and that it's fine, AND you would not be sending a message to your Guild that you don't give a damn and will not stand up for them and that you think it's cool to argue, berate and embarrass them in public. Not cool in my book, wash Guild dirt in the Guild. waggle.gif
Xavius2008-05-31 01:36:47
Shaddus, Shaddus, Shaddus. Last time something like this came up, you made Revan look lenient and reasonable, and we all know Revan is neither lenient nor reasonable. It may be time for you to look into a healthy dose of amnesia dust and a character rework. Or an OOC perspective adjustment. Whichever solves your problem, do that.
Doman2008-05-31 01:37:39
doesn't this belong in idiots?
Jigan2008-05-31 02:00:54
Always make a novice understand that the skills as outlined are there for their benifit. I always try to explain the reason for said skills and explain why they help. How to use, if requested.

Regarding the disrespect, I would have gone softer at the begining, then crushed him for bad comments later. Once had a Squire that was really, really disrespectful and annoying. He suicided, made an alt with some storyline about his "brother" blaming me for his death. (Really wasn't that hard, was I? Just told him, eight times, in nine different ways to shape up.)

In public, be neutral and more willing to resolve the issue, rather than the suspects. Once you get either or off and out of sight, berate them. The public should know nothing until the suspects leave the office. If anyone gets uppity, tell them you are handling it, and then flick them on the nose if they continue to pester.

dazed.gif
Unknown2008-05-31 02:14:24
Yeah, this could of been a lot less public. You were right to be discipline your guild member but you should of just taken him to the guild hall, say nothing until your there. And it does not help that you were defending someone who broke city law. Even if one person was breaking your guild laws or city laws does not mean the other person is the law.
Kiradawea2008-05-31 09:06:38
How come people are saying that was harsh? Yeah sure, allowing someone to break the law like that was wrong, but how could Ledrix know about that? Even more so, any Guild Leaders should be able to have some expectations to their members, even young ones. Even if you're the greenest novice from the other side of the fence, does that not give you immunity from expectations. This is, after all, a multiplayer game. What you do have consequences on those around you, just like in real life. And like in real life, people will have expectations to you and you should be aware that there are consequences of ignoring those expectations. Was Ariadne in the wrong for killing Ledrix, yes she was, but Ledrix was also in the wrong for provoking the attack.

And I still don't see that as harsh.
Arix2008-05-31 09:10:05
