Getting back into the game

Back to Common Grounds.

Long time no see, Lusternians! I doubt more than a handful of you even remember me, but that's hardly the point. tongue.gif

For the past few months, I've been anxious to make a reappearance and it's finally looking like I have the opportunity. However, I'm not exactly thrilled with the prospect of having to learn the ropes all over yet again, not to mention the massive pile of newsposts I'm bound to have backed up. Before I make a proper comeback, I've got a rather daunting to-do list. As such, I was hoping that some of you kind forum-goers would take the time to help me out and answer a few questions for me! There're probably no easy answers for these, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've been browsing the forums quite a bit, and it looks like races were rebalanced. I've been considering reincarnating for a long while, so I have to ask: Are trills considered to be a more playable race since the rebalancing?

I don't remember the exact dates of my comings and goings, but I've been out of the game for over an IG decade. For those that have taken similar breaks from Lusternia, have you any advice for someone coming back after so long? Any nuggets of wisdom that might be used to ease the transition for someone trying to integrate back into the game?

Many thanks in advance, I'm very much looking forward to seeing you all in-game. smile.gif

Apologies for any poorly-worded phrases and the like. I'm a touch sleep-deprived.

Hmm, I came back about half a year ago from a (RL) year and a half break. Probably the best thing to do is just befriend someone, follow them around a bit. Usually they won't mind helping you if you seem like a promising future contributor to your org. When I came back, I mostly followed Leiliadhe around, and things turned out pretty well.

I also came back, a little after Ashai, and like Ashai, I clung to Leiliadhe. Turned out pretty well for me.

So the advice I'm hearing here is cling to Leiliadhe. It works and you have fun. She's cool that way. (Her brother, that is also in the Shadowdancers, is more awesome, but he doesn't really hang out with people much.)

Oh, yay, Gavriel is back. I don't have any advice as I've never taken such a break but I can tell ya that if Gavriel is coming back and staying Nihilist/Magnagora then I will gladly help with anything.

As for a more constructive comment... I have left and returned to MUDs after long breaks in the past and I never had much of a problem with learning the ropes again. There's a lot of people around who still remember you and who will stand on their hands or hop over the Megalith to help you, if you wished such. Or people who are simply there for you to bug whenever you come across a problem. Maybe making an alt to poke about on for a little while would be a good idea? Get into the game again without pressure (not that anyone would give you such).

As for trills... I don't think much was upgraded for them. Their charisma was upped and they're better at seduction ego battles but that's about it. Personally I always thought it really cool that Gavriel sticks to being a trill but for playability I think Viscanti beats them - better resistances, better constitution, similar stats (or achievable with skills). At 15 (I think) charisma Trills seem to make fine influencers if you add populus, netzach and a throne on top of it (from easier means).

Glad to hear you'll be around in any case! content.gif

I'd say trill are a decent bard race now.

I'd like to second that loud squeeing noise, Gavriel. Come baaaack!

Thank you so much for all the replies! biggrin.gif I didn't expect them quite this quickly.

A fantastic thought! While I don't think Gav would have much of a chance to bump into Leiliadhe, it at least looks like Nariah, Sthai, and Othero wouldn't mind being pestered by me too very much. tongue.gif

I'm glad to hear there are still folks around that remember me, though I'll do my best to avoid making them stand on their hands and hop over the Megalith. I'm kind of hoping that MUDs are like riding a bike in that I won't -really- forget, maybe it'll all come back to me. I'm sure things will be easier once I start playing more regularly.

-That's- a little disappointing, but I think I can cope with that. At least some kind of improvements were made. I've never been much of an influencer, maybe it's time to get into it.

I've tried bards with alts in the past and, as much as I enjoyed the skills and the guilds as a whole, I'm an awful lyricist. Rather embarassing, that.
