how come some races are not limited to the kinds of clothing or armor they can wear? ex. Like how would taurians wear boots?
Diamondais2008-06-09 02:30:09
Don't nitpick.

I know when I was a Taurian, I had special boots made for me. Any one can do it if they want to put that kind of time into their RP.

The reason why this is the way it is... is because all characters have the ability to customize, and change, and look however they want with no supervision or penalty (i.e. taurians can be a taurian-human mix and not have hooves, but just the horns, if they want).
Also, IRE games are more for convenience... like how there is no 'true death' here. I mean, have you ever thought about your character fighting? First of all, they are carrying around at least 2000lbs worth of , they have three pipes stuck in their mouth, they are cramming their mouth with herbs, they're mashing plants against their skin... and they are smearing oily, nasty gunk all on their clothing/armour for it to heal their bones and other ailments. None of it makes sense. It is just the way IRE works.
If you want to play a MUD where things like this are taken into consideration, play Armageddon. That's a depressing game...

Whenever I had forgers make me armour I made sure they RP'd having to cut slits in it for my wings. That was solved when I got armour specifically designed for wings.

I thought about it. I decided that all lusternians have this aurathingy of stuff floating around them, affectionately dubbed the "inventory", and this "inventory" is subject to low-level psychic manipulation, meaning that you only need hands free for certain things, and even then they have quadruple-jointed thumbs so that they can hold both heavy weapons and a pipe/vial whatever at the same time.
Seriously, though, I've thought about working on writing an armour description that has "slots" for vials and pipes and stuff to go in, where they can be activated to inject or whatever via facemasky thing. Herbs, you just stick your tongue into your rift and pull out the necessary goodness.
And the salves are magic! They're so awesomely amazing that they leave no residue and contain antioxidants and skin proteins to maintain a more youthful look. Sun-kissed glow guaranteed!

The inventory is like a rift.

MAGICK!!!!
MAGICK!!!!
Selverad2008-06-12 20:38:51
That's some pretty strong magic, considering how much 15 krokani corpses must weigh. Not to mention 15000 gold sovereigns. That's gold. Very heavy.
I want magic like that for my attacks.

I blame a wizard for stuff like that. Realism is a tricky line to walk, and it would really suck for both players and coders to take race into account for all clothing (and encumberance for that matter...imagine all the poor faelings dragging their one krokani corpse across the Grey Moors to unload it for a pittance). Whoever mentioned Armageddon...ye gods, permadeath, hardly any newbie support, rapid starvation, getting lost in the desert and THEN starving to death...I played 3 characters before deciding "armageddon outta here" *duck*
Fortunately, racial stuff can be handwaved pretty easily with a magic word: Humans. The gene pool has become so mixed since the coming of Estarra that you'd be hard-pressed to find any pure-blood characters. Thus, you can have your Taurian with hoofy feet that can fit into boots, you can have a Lobo tail flexible enough to tuck into your pants, or a Lucidian capable of smirking or grimacing from time to time.

Sanity's sake. It makes the game more fun to play when you don't have to deal with as much tedium, in my opinion!
I mean, we have to eat, but we don't age, don't have to use the bathroom (or any associated bodily functions), and we come back from the dead. All things considered, a little carrying weight thing doesn't seem all that insane. Besides, can you imagine if carrying weight was a function of strength or something? Poor faelings would either be leaving corpses where they lay, or running back to a shrine every five minutes. Oh, what fun?
