Half Races?

Now I'm sure this has been discussed at some point.. but anyways.

If a dalmation and a spaniel mate, they either have mixed breeds of both dogs, or some times they get dogs that closely resemble one parent or the other. I would imagine things are the same in Lusty. It kind of annoys me when people claim there's no such thing as half breeds. Yes TECHNICALLY you can only be one race, but why is it such a problem if someone wishes to roleplay a mixed race? Case and point -

QUOTE
(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "Elfen now regain willpower faster courtesy of the
Justice throne, enjoy."

(Serenwilde): Kuroi says, "Woots."

(Serenwilde): Daurentoir says, "Willpower?"

(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "Yes."

(Serenwilde): Raguel says, "Sweet."

(Serenwilde): Raguel says, "Well done domothians!"

(Serenwilde): Kaillan says, "All elfens?"

(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "Yes, all elfens."

(Serenwilde): You say, "What about half elfens? can we get half the regain?"

(Serenwilde): Kaillan says, "Hehe, do i get wild regain?"

(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "You get a big fat egg."

(Serenwilde): Raguel says, "There are no half elfens."

(Serenwilde): Kaillan says, "Faelings."

(Serenwilde): Raguel says, "Faelings are not elfen."

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "Faelings are Half Elfen."

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "Half Fae."

(Serenwilde): Kaillan says, "Part elfen....raised elfen..."

(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "Faelings aren't half elfen, that's like saying birds
are half bat."

(Serenwilde): Fasaetta says, "I think it's bats that would be half bird..."
help faelings

4.14.5 The Faeling Race

Faelings are not descended from an Elder God. Rather, they are the cross
between an elfen and a creature of the fae. Faelings are almost always
raised in elfen communes, and are given special status by wiccans.
Physically, they look like extremely diminutive elfen, even smaller than
the furrikin, and they all have elaborate butterfly-like wings enabling
them to fly. While not very strong, they make up for that in speed and
intellect.

(Serenwilde): Myrkr (from the Nexus World of Serenwilde) says, "I second
Fasaetta's notion."

(Serenwilde): You say, "Uhm... the scrolls saying faelings are a cross between
an elfen and fae creature."

(Serenwilde): Kuroi (from the Nexus World of Serenwilde) says, "Faelings are not
hdescended from an elder god, rather they are a cross between an elfen and a
creature of the fae...quote."

(Serenwilde): Kaillan says, "Well then speak to the Gods about getting their
discription changed."

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "See? Told you, half Elfen!"

(Serenwilde): Shuyin says, "The images of what elfen and say a pooka do in the
privacy of a manse now disturbs me at a fundamental level, thank you."

(Serenwilde): You say, "You are very welcome!"

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "That's nothing, you should see what I do with my
pixie."

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "I am kidding."

(Serenwilde): Gregori says, "That was more than I needed to hear..."

(Serenwilde): Myrkr says, "I said I was kidding!!"

I can understand why they are kept different, but are obviously the same.

Besides. I am an illithoid. My parents are human and faeling.

Figure THAT one out.

A poodle and a saint Bernard breeding may make a mutt, but it is still a dog.

A fae and an elfen breeding create a new race. Sure, you are "technically" conceived by an elf and fae and many would view you as a mutt, but you are all faeling.

Arix was born elfen. Everything else is just several stages of reincarnation

I remember you being a Faeling for a long time.

I believe (and this is far from cannon), from my understanding, that races cannot interbreed. That is to say, the Viscanti were the first instance (ie, the influence of the Taint) that allowed races to cross-breed. Later, humans came with Estarra, who likewise had the ability to crossbreed but without the physical mutations (more seamless melding of two races vs rather 'mad scientist' hack-slash-sown-together melding).

That said, I'm left wondering what it was about the Viscanti that allowed them to mix races (taint, I assume!), and if it is the Soulless juice of Kethuru, then I wonder if Illithoid could likewise crossbreed (see: Illithoid Kephera hybrids). It would be interesting to find out!
Kaylee2008-06-11 22:34:15
Well I figure any race 1 breeding with race 2 equaling race 3, can be explained as reincarnations smile.gif

So...the biologist in me sits up and takes notice at this one. One of the definitions of a species is that they are a group of organisms that can interbreed AND produce offspring that are fertile. Animals from two different species, by the definition, cannot produce fertile offspring. Exceptions of course include female Ligers, which are fertile.

Eventru are you saying that all the races, exception of humans, are actually different species?

There's something in the help files (HELP CHILDREN I think) that says that the Portal of Fate janks with everything. I also cited this in the Family thread in the Ideas section, but basically you go in as bajillion year old fae-thing and come out a 19 year old loboshigaru. WTF? Blame the Portal.

I thought all the telomeres just got lengthened during the transition, but maybe that is just me. biggrin.gif

Yes, that is just you. Longer telomeres != younger. Reversing cellular and neuronal cumulative damage, however, is a good step along the way. Cerebral restructuring, hormone rebalancing, replacement of missing stem lines.... the list is pretty extensive.
