If the gameplay and multiplayer is going to be anything like its predecessors (with next gen improvements of course) I will be ecstatic. If it's gonna be WoW then... =(
(er my internet is way too laggy for me to check at the moment >.<)
Edit: Is there a tentative release date and is it gonna be Mac-compatible? ? ?

No release date is available on the site yet, but it will be released for Windows and Mac.

Blizzard HQ is some sort of Mecca for Gamers, to which everytime one logs in, you turn and bow. Somehow, their three main games are near cornerstones of gamer society. These men and women surely are blessed with some divine spark from on high which says "Lo, go out and game, for it is good to not be stuffy."
I look forward to Diablo III. It's supposed to be more geared towards multi-player, but it will allow single player. Personally, I only do single player save for Lusternia.

Press demo was exactly the same as Diablo 2. Five classes this time, and the "new" one uses curses, auras, summonable undead and nukes. "Witchdoctor" aka "necromancer". That said, it will still be a blast the first 20 times through, level racing, item farming, etc. I was just hoping for a few more "new" mechanics and improvements like diablo 2 over diablo. As it is, it is demo'ing like diablo 2 with a resolution higher than 800x600 and a new story.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's going to be crazy ass fun, but I was hoping for more!

Eh it's hard to get excited when you were expecting it and you know it's not going to be released for another 2+ years or so.

Diablo III: for when WoW has too many people/ too high a monthly fee.
I kid because I love.

It's actually on target for a closer release than two years. I'd say Christmas '09 or even Q3 '09. WOTLK is the next thing out, scheduled for Feb '09, already in F&F alpha.

Like what, exactly? Turning it into a different kind of game would destroy it.

Would you agree that Diablo 2 brought more to the table than the original Diablo? I'm not talking about destroying the hack and slash gameplay, I'm talking about new features, etc. If you look at the list compared to D1, you'll see that they took on a gigantic number of features, yet none of that seems to happen in D3. We got to dick around with it a little, was fun like I said, but still it was just a better-looking D2.
Unknown2008-06-30 22:11:56
It's way, way too early to say that. We don't know too much about the planned features yet.
I don't like the changed inventory and the fact corpses seem to disappear way faster.
And it seems much more colourful than in previous games, but that's not really a flaw for me considering they were sometimes just too dark, and graphics were very simple. Still, it kinda looks like Warcraft. Lots of people moan about that already, but it's kinda fine with me.
Also, original Diablo really was a simple game, so there was a lot to be done with D2. Now, D2 with expansion plus all the patches, there's a lot of stuff in there. There's always a point when better is the enemy of good, and they can't cross that line with D3. But I have high expectation nonetheless, it's Blizzard.

I actually enjoy the 'point and click' game type. I hate WoW for the sole reason it is nothing like warcraft (given it is a spinoff but still.) If they made it more into like WoW I probably wouldn't mainly for my hate towards it.

I get this creepy "Neverwinter Nights" vibe from it.
And I refuse to play it unless they put out more runewords for D2: LOD

From what I know, the original team that developed D1 and D2 left Blizzard to form their own company halfway along the project development. Blizzard had to hire an entirely new team and study where the former team left of. That caused the delay.

I'll buy it. I didn't have to look at the trailers to know this. It's reflexive. I'll probably need a new machine to be able to get the thing to even move, though...
More than anything else, I just wanted to say that Kashim's signature made me giggle in an unmanly fashion.

When D2 was in development I remember reading in my PC Gamer about all these new features they were adding, alot of which didn't end up being put in or being stripped down. I'd like to think that these were design decisions that they realized wouldn't work after trying them out. This time around... nothing really cool announced to hype us up? Maybe they don't want to make the same mistake again, maybe not.
Desitrus, you got a chance to play it? How'd that happen?

Bali hates me because as far as game companies go I'm "Deep in the streets" or whatever. I end up in all the press/F&F/etc alphas and sneak peeks. D3 is way more done than you people think it is, they just hadn't hyped it as hard/long as the other stuff. They'll bury you in D3 junk at the next Blizzcon, believe me. They definitely didn't start from the "ground up" on the engine, so a lot of the core mechanics are the same, thus allowing for a shorter development cycle. D2 was a complete rewrite.
They let some people tool around on that early level to get a feel for the "hotbar". Didn't that gameplay video seem a little more in-tact than most pre-alpha gameplay videos to you guys? That's kinda what I'm getting at.
Daganev2008-07-01 14:35:17
They announced D3 over 6 months ago, didn't they? I'm thinking maybe even earlier than that.
