QUOTE
A veiled old woman says, "Now tell me, is there anything worth seeing in this pit of corruption?"

Bhairan ponders a veiled old woman thoughtfully, looking her up and down.

Seditionist Darc d'Murani, Knuckle of Luciphage says to a veiled old woman, "It depends on how open your eyes are."

Genna arrives from the east.

You say, "There's the bridge over the harbour."

A veiled old woman says, "Oh I have had my eyes open before you were born, child."

A veiled old woman's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Darc smirks.

Rasshid d'Sifal gives one last cry and departs to the east to deliver the news.

Genna ponders a veiled old woman thoughtfully, looking her up and down.

Seditionist Darc d'Murani, Knuckle of Luciphage says to a veiled old woman, "Then you should have no need to ask such a question in the first place."

Vashner mutters and traces a glowing circle before him. He steps through the circle and suddenly vanishes from sight.

"Tsk, tsk," a veiled old woman says to Darc as she waggles a finger at her.

The air around Darc blurs as she chants under her breath. She shakes her head and blinks in confusion.

Darc takes a drink from an opal vial.

The only visible part of the old woman's face are her eyes, which glitter intensely, bright and ever-changing. Thin lines of wrinkles run lightly from the corners of her eyes, giving her an ancient and knowing look. Fluttering slightly at every movement, the blue wispy veils about her face cover both her hair and her mouth, extending down her body to form multi-layered robes that run all the way to her feet. Bright silvery tracings run around the hems of her sleeves and around her waist, forming twisting vines that gleam in any light.
A veiled old woman seems to be unafraid.

A veiled old woman says, "That's no way to speak to your elders."

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Well, it depends on what you seek."

Seditionist Darc d'Murani, Knuckle of Luciphage says, "Age doesn't matter to me."

Darc's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Manipulator of Minds, Archmage Vashner De'Unnero, Stigma of the Earth says to a veiled old woman, "There is the Silent Cathedral towards the eastern part of the city."

A veiled old woman says, "Why is it silent?"

Apprentice of Gravynia, Esano says, "If you head a little further, there's the Blasted Lands, too. Some nice views there."

You say, "Religious reasons."

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Because it can't talk."

Darc grins mischievously at Izekeal.

Vashner peers at Izekeal unscrupulously.

"Heh heh heh" Genna chuckles.

A veiled old woman's eyes sparkle with amusement.

A veiled old woman says, "Very wise."

The beautiful yet mournful, stirring notes of a violin solo reach you, at first a molto crescendo to a subtle intensity before being joined by a second, and then a third, eventually fading from your hearing entirely.

With a look of intense concentration, Darc's fingers pluck at non-existent objects in the air, then stops and smiles with satisfaction.

A veiled old woman says, "Maybe there should be less speaking and more doing. Would anyone show me these places?"

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Surely."

You say, "Certainly."

Genna nods her head emphatically.

A veiled old woman raises an eyebrow questioningly.

Darc chuckles long and heartily.

A veiled old woman says, "Whom do I follow then?"

Izekeal points accusingly at you.

A veiled old woman coughs softly.

A veiled old woman ponders the situation.

You say, "I'll lead us."

Genna says, "I do not know what the other place was."

A wry smile spreads across Darc's face.

A veiled old woman ponders you thoughtfully, looking you up and down.

Bhairan looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Izekeal begins to follow you.

A veiled old woman says, "You will do I suppose."

Darc's eyes sparkle with amusement.

"Heh heh heh" Genna chuckles.

A veiled old woman begins to follow you.

An Ur'Guard Grand Marshal says, "For the glory of our great city, and the Taint that sustains it."

A veiled old woman says, "Well?"

You say, "Anywhere you wish to see first?"

Darc leaves to the south.
An Ur'Guard Grand Marshal says, "For the glory of our great city, and the Taint that sustains it."
A shadowed cultist proceeds to the south, his figure hidden in darkness.

Genna tells you, "Can I come along to watch?"

You tell Genna, "Sure."

A veiled old woman says, "You tell me. I know nothing of your city."

Genna begins to follow you.

Darc arrives from the south.
An Ur'Guard Grand Marshal says, "I am ready for any encounter, Darc. Just tell me when and where."

Izekeal follows you east.
Marble arch before the Necropolis.
A statue of Gravynia stands here, memorializing her noble spirit. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post. Crying out the latest news, Rasshid d'Sifal strolls purposefully through the streets. Grunt Xesera, Ur'Guard Initiate is here. She wields a sinister curved katana with both hands.
You see exits leading northeast, east, southeast, and west.

Rasshid d'Sifal says, "The blessings of our great Lord Morgfyre upon you, Iytha. He is the patron of the taint, and one of the gods of our city. His followers are the Ouroborian Priests and Priestesses."

Izekeal follows you east.
Sombre Lane.
A palpable, seething hunger - endless, terrible, and awesome to behold - distorts the air in a gibbous miasma, heralding a war shrine of Morgfyre nearby. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post. A statue of Klaymech stands here, memorializing his noble spirit.
You see exits leading east and west.

Izekeal follows you east.
The Bell-Tower.
A palpable, seething hunger - endless, terrible, and awesome to behold - distorts the air in a gibbous miasma, heralding a war shrine of Morgfyre nearby. A monument to Baalphegar casts its long shadow over the filthy flagstones here. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post. A statue of Bhalegu stands here, memorializing his noble spirit. Sitting on its haunches, a bloodhound rests here. A filthy gutter mutt meanders here, sniffing the ground.
You see exits leading east, west, and in (open door).

Genna tells you, "Thank you ma'am."

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the east.

You say, "Here's the belltower. It rings every night at midnight."

A veiled old woman says, "Why midnight?"

Genna tells you, "Hrm, somehow I lost you. Oh well."

A veiled old woman pats a bloodhound in a friendly manner.

You say, "The undead prefer the night as it is better on the undead flesh."

A veiled old woman says, "I knew a dog like that."

A veiled old woman says, "Probably his grandpater's grandpater."

You nod your head emphatically.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Any particular reason for the veils? or is it a point of modesty?"

The Bell-Tower.
A palpable, seething hunger - endless, terrible, and awesome to behold - distorts the air in a gibbous miasma, heralding a war shrine of Morgfyre nearby. Existing merely as a meansof housing the great bells that mark the passing of the hours, clearly audible across the entire City, the Bell-tower has in modern times become a gathering place for Citizen and visitor alike. Hexagonal in design, what was originally a beautiful architectural structure of grey marble has, over the decades, become coated in layers of thick soot and filth. At its very apex, a dozen stone gargoyles, similarly defaced, keep watch over the approaches to the east and west. Bent and veiled, an old woman stands here calmly. Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation is here. He wields an iron shield in his left hand and a black ash lute in his right.
You see exits leading east, west, and in (open door).

A veiled old woman says, "What? Is an old woman not allowed her veils?"

A veiled old woman peers about herself unscrupulously.

Sombre Lane.

Atropos Plaza.
A palpable, seething hunger - endless, terrible, and awesome to behold - distorts the air in a gibbous miasma, heralding a war shrine of Morgfyre nearby. A battered old signpost stands here. A breathtaking white marble statue of the god Morgfyre, the Legion, towers upon a high pedestal. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post.
You see exits leading north, east, south, southwest, west, northwest, and down.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "I simply asked."

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the east, sniffing about.

A veiled old woman coughs softly.

You say, "Down from here is the undercity and the college."

A veiled old woman peers downwards and squints.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "And on that note, might I ask your name as well? seems we were not properly introduced."

A veiled old woman chuckles long and heartily.

A veiled old woman says, "My name isn't important."

You say, "Not well lighted and a bit stinky, from the poor."

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the west.

A veiled old woman says, "Serves you right for building it underground."

A veiled old woman wrinkles her nose and sniffs.

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the west, sniffing about.

You say, "Up in the city proper, we have street lamps."

You point accusingly at a gas lamp.

Atropos Plaza.
A palpable, seething hunger - endless, terrible, and awesome to behold - distorts the air in a gibbous miasma, heralding a war shrine of Morgfyre nearby. Broad flagstones arrayed in a circular pattern form Atropos Plaza, which stretches wide and broad, free from the surrounding noble structures of Magnagora and circling around a breathtaking marble statuein the centre of the Plaza. Bisecting the Plaza, Atropos Way weaves north and south through the commercial districts of the capital, skirting around the grand entrance to thevenerable bank, whose marble facade rises high into the clouded air. The curiously contorted towers that surround the majestic Necropolis loom high to the west, while around the plaza a great spiral set of stairs descends slowly into the darkened Undercity below the capital. A battered old signpost stands here. A breathtaking white marble statue of the god Morgfyre, the Legion, towers upon a high pedestal. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post. bent and veiled, an old woman stands here calmly. A filthy gutter mutt meanders here, sniffing the ground. Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the south.

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the east.

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the south, sniffing about.

Izekeal follows you east.
As you pass beneath the august statue of Morgfyre, the Legion, the benevolent and kind face of the Elder God appears to smile down at you.

Sombre Lane nearing the Old Quarter.

You see exits leading north, southeast, and southwest.

The bright sun shines down upon you.

You say, "Over here is the Temple to the Elder God Morgfyre."

A veiled old woman wrinkles her nose and sniffs.

Shadows grow longer in anticipation for the return of their dark mistress as Father Sun's chase brings him closer to the world's edge.

A gas lamp suddenly flares alight as if by magic, casting pale, ghostly luminescence across the city streets.

You say, "He is very widely worshiped in the city."

A veiled old woman says, "Why would you worship such a one as him?"

Black birds circle around the gothic Silent Cathedral, towering down from its high hill, its bells forever hushed.

You say, "Ask His worshipers. I follow the teachings of the Demon Lords."

Izekeal follows you southeast.
Sombre Lane.

A veiled old woman chuckles long and heartily.

You say, "Our church is over here."

Izekeal follows you up.
The Gates of the Silent Cathedral.
Whispers in a thousand dissonant voices, each starkly dissimilar, carry hauntingly on the air from a healing shrine of Morgfyre nearby. Lord Ayman n'Kylbar surveys the surrounding architecture, blueprints in hand. Worked into the gates themselves, a small iron plaque gleams softly. A gas lamp casts pale, ghostly light across the streets from atop a tall, ornately gilded iron post. A statue of Alaron stands here, memorializing his noble spirit.
You see exits leading north and down.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Whom would you rather
worship then, elder one?"

A veiled old woman says, "Me?"

A veiled old woman's eyes sparkle with amusement.

A veiled old woman says, "I worship no one."

Ayman n'Kylbar stares at the dark, twisted towers of Magnagora with a cruel, satisfied
smile, marking notes into his blueprints.

You say, "Lord Ayman n'Kylbar is our best architect. He's built almost all of the new city."

Ayman n'Kylbar says, "House n'Kylbar is one of the three Houses Major of the eight
viscanti noble Houses. We are served principally by House d'Vanecu and House n'Rotri. Our
House focuses upon politics and intrigues, and we are led by Lord Adriano n'Kylbar."

A veiled old woman ponders Ayman n'Kylbar thoughtfully, looking him up and down.

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the down, sniffing about.

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the down.

A veiled old woman pats Ayman n'Kylbar in a friendly manner.

The bright sun shines down upon you.

A veiled old woman coughs softly.

As the sun passes below the horizon's edge, Mother Night unveils her terrible, shadowy
beauty, spreading darkness across the land.

Ayman n'Kylbar barks harsh orders to a nearby imp laborer, who yelps unexpectedly and
hurries to obey.

A veiled old woman says, "He's a bit severe, isn't he?"

A veiled old woman chuckles long and heartily.

You nod your head emphatically.

You say, "Only if you offend someone who is."

A veiled old woman ponders a statue of Gravynia thoughtfully, looking it up and down.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says, "We do."

A veiled old woman says, "This place is no home for natural creatures."

A ragged beggar shuffles off to the west.

A veiled old woman lifts her head and sniffs quietly.

You say, "They are vital to the well being of the city."

A veiled old woman says, "I am sure, I am sure."

Your sense of smell is assaulted by the stench of horse manure.

A veiled old woman says, "Ah don't worry. I'll go see that some other time."

An enormous marble fountain stands here, exuding an unpleasant yet enticingly sickly odour. The base is a circular pool, and above it on a pedestal kneels a humanoid figure, hands stretched out imploringly, mouth opened in a silent scream. The skin of the statue constantly exudes a sweat of blood which dribbles down its head and sides, gaining weight and momentum, until it splashes noisily into the steaming basin beneath. Periodically, thesound of dripping blood is broken by a piercing scream of anguish, and a sudden spurt of blood is vomited from the statue's mouth, bespattering both the bloody reservoir and the marble rim which encircles it. Through the murky, swirling blood of the pool can be seen a bleary fresco of dark figures dancing and dying, and in their centre a gigantic mask with opened mouth and glinting fangs, through which the pool is drained. A battered bronze chalice is chained to the fountain's rim, offering bloody sustenance to any bold enough to drink.
It weighs about 375 pounds.

You say, "Here we are."

A veiled old woman peers carefully at the writhing bridge.

You say, "Mind the hands, they will try to grab ankles."

A veiled old woman says, "He should blow up this one too."

On the Bridge of Torment.
Dark shadows coalesce in and out of existence as small, dark clouds obfuscating theavailable light as they float around the area from a shield shrine of Fain nearby. A vast expanse of naked flesh writhes half-heartedly underfoot, composed entirely from dead bodies and some that are only halfway along the journey to the Fates. The corpses bear no semblance of race nor gender, the only thing visible of them are pallid, sexless bodies that have been sewn together with pitch-black thread in jagged, uneven stitches. The amalgam of flesh twitches and convulses as it spans the harbour, the eyes and mouths of each being sewn closed with unforgiving viciousness. Tears of blood weep from sightless, soundless faces into the waters below, flowing into the Sea of Despair like some sick parody of tribute. A gas lamp casts pale, ghostly light across the streets from atop a tall, ornately gilded iron post. Bent and veiled, an old woman stands here calmly. Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation is here. He wields an iron shield in his left hand and a black ash lute in his right.
You see exits leading north and south.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "That would make a
mess, now wouldnt it."

A veiled old woman says, "Oh I'm sure he can clean up after his own messes."

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "He'd put us to cleaning, I'm sure."

A veiled old woman says, "Well, that's your fault for following him then, isn't it?"

You shrug helplessly.

You say, "What's a few corpses matter?"

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Besides, it's a homage to our art of Necromancy and the Torment of the Demon Lords."

A veiled old woman says, "You should give them a proper burial."

A veiled old woman wrinkles her nose and sniffs.

You say, "Why?"

A veiled old woman says, "So they can be sent on their way, their proper path."

A veiled old woman says, "You're holding them back."

Midnight shadows coalesce around a new day, and Mother Night embraces the land in utter darkness.
It is now the 25th of Dioni, 210 years after the Coming of Estarra.

You say, "That would be sinful, not restoring them to life."

A veiled old woman bends and pats a corpse lightly.

At the darkest hour, the bell tower suddenly springs to life with sound. The shadows are given voice as its hallowed tones ring in celebration of midnight over Magnagora.

A veiled old woman says, "Their time has passed."

A veiled old woman says, "It would not do to hold them back where they do not belong."

You say, "In Magnagora, you either bring a corpse to life or you know that they were to vile a person to deserve to live."

Still patting the corpse, A veiled old woman says, "Go on, go home now."

A veiled old woman says, "Yes, I'm sure that's what your city does. But it is not the
way."

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "But it is -our- way."

A veiled old woman's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "Even our songs bring undeath."

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the north, sniffing about.

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the north.

A filthy gutter mutt arrives from the north, sniffing about.

A veiled old woman says, "You are touched of the heralds. How could you not bring all that is unnatural?"

With no warning, the corpses beneath your feet begin to wail, shriek, bark and howl, then silence falls again.

A veiled old woman bends to soothe the corpses again.

The night sky is clear, and the stars twinkle like diamonds.

You say, "If you had spoken to the dead, you would feel differently."

Growling in displeasure, a filthy gutter mutt leaves to the south.

Graveyard in The Gloaming.
You see exits leading southeast, south, and west.

Jagged streaks of angry lightning flare across the dark, brooding clouds overhead, brieflyilluminating the shadowy streets of Magnagora.

A veiled old woman sucks thoughtfully on her teeth.

You say, "Perhaps you would care to ask those that lie here what they think?"

The night sky is clear, and the stars twinkle like diamonds.

A veiled old woman says, "I'm afraid I would most upset you if I did what I could for the poor souls."

A veiled old woman chuckles long and heartily.

You ponder for a moment and say "Hrm..."

You say, "I don't suppose you have any sisters, do you?"

A veiled old woman says, "Sisters? Oh I had one. But she is gone."

Looking downtrodden, a veiled old woman sadly shakes her head.

You say, "Only one?"

Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation says to a veiled old woman, "What happened to her?"

A veiled old woman says, "Well. Depends on how you define sister."

A veiled old woman kneels and traces a hand along the gravedirt.

A veiled old woman bends and whispers to the ground softly.

A veiled old woman a soft light forms where her hands touch the ground, and a soft breeze ruffles her veils. A whiff of fresh air whips through the area.

A veiled old woman stands up and chuckles.

A veiled old woman says, "They're very happy to see me."

A veiled old woman says, "I've sent them on their way."

You say, "I'm going to have to ask that you leave."

A veiled old woman raises an eyebrow questioningly.

A veiled old woman says, "You're the one who brought me here, dear."

You say, "I did not think that you would defile a grave."

Ackleberry Highway approaching Magnagora. (road).
The corrosiveness of the taint sickens the land.
You see exits leading south and northwest.

Your sense of smell is assaulted by the stench of horse manure.

A veiled old woman says, "I did not defile it. I sanctified it."

You say, "Once more, I ask that you leave, crone. I do not wish to be violent."

A veiled old woman's eyes sparkle with amusement.

The sky above you opens up some, leaving only partial cloud cover.

A veiled old woman says, "You will find this old body tougher than you expect. But very
well. I have seen enough."

A veiled old woman snaps her fingers.

Ackleberry Highway approaching Magnagora. (road).
The corrosiveness of the taint sickens the land. This ancient road curves from north to south on the eastern side of the basin of civilization. The ground of the road is compacted tight under the weight of centuries of travellers, merchants, heroes and villains trekking back and forth. Two channels have been engraved within the road from theweight of wagon wheels carrying their heavy cargoes. The landscape surrounding the highway is bleak. A coating of fine black soot covers vegetation that is twisted into tortuous contortions. The air smells faintly of sulphur and the atmosphere evokes a sense of apprehension. Ahead can be seen the black spires of the great city of Magnagora, red lightning flashing from a perpetual bank of black clouds overhead. Artiste Izekeal, Deviser of Devastation is here. He wields an iron shield in his left hand and a black ash lute in his right.
You see exits leading south and northwest.

Izekeal leaves to the south.

You mutter discontentedly.

Bhairan Feyranti, the Midnight Ur'Drake says, "Report?"

You say, "Foul old woman."

A veiled old woman tells you, "Oh by the way. Do tell Fain I send my greetings."

Kharvik winks conspiratorially at you.

You shout, "I will send Lord Fain Your 'love', Lisaera."

You glare about you, upset with the world.

You say, "Defiling a grave."

Exotic, heady fragrances of pungent cinnamon and myrrh tickle your senses, mixing with a slick, oily aroma.

Haiden tells you, "...down girl."

Bhairan looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

You tell Ur'Marshal Haiden, Progeny of Undeath, "She asked me to."

Bhairan Feyranti, the Midnight Ur'Drake says, "Interesting."

Haiden tells you, "Interesting."

Bhairan Feyranti, the Midnight Ur'Drake says, "Should have tried to find out what She wanted."

Haiden tells you, "What sort of love are you delivering?"

You say, "I know what she wanted."

Bhairan Feyranti, the Midnight Ur'Drake says, "Oh?"

You say, "Defiled the graves in the Gloaming."

You tell Ur'Marshal Haiden, Progeny of Undeath, "A hateful sort."

You say, "Sent the spirits to the Fates."

You glare about you, upset with the world.

I am also confused on this point.
Saaga2008-06-30 19:35:25
Well, she did ask if the crone had a sister - I suspect she had her suspects - and she answered in a manner that I thought was revealing.
Unknown2008-06-30 19:53:04
The interest in Fain near the latter portion of the visit might also have helped. Not that I could have deduced her identity myself.

Secretive old crone that doesn't worship any of the gods? Acting extremly knowing and wise? Hates Fain while talking in a way that suggest she knew him personally before the Divine Wars? Covered in a silver vine moteif? Disapears with a snap of her fingers?

I'm not sure how you couldn't tell it was her.

The silvery vine moteif is what gives it a way the most, in my opinion.

Awww, sad I missed something like this. None of the gods like me sad.gif

I do enjoy how long you guys seemed to put up with her insulting you. If not you then at least Magnagora and the Demon Lords. I so would of backhanded her. And I thought it was Raezon who made the bridge, not Fain.
Shaddus2008-06-30 22:01:26
See, I woul have taken her to Lord Fain's Temple, and introduced her rump to Makfir.

But, I would have been polite about it, also.
Ralanbek2008-07-01 02:41:58
well seeing that she got to walk around the city i wanted to go look around Serenwilde and they were not as kind, made me leave. First time cuz i was liched and they said no lich's come back when your un-liched. so i did and then it was no Mag's.

bah, suppose i'll have to make an Alt if i ever want to see the wilde.

It was Raezon. I remember it 'cause he managed to mis-c/p all the code into a world emote just beforehand.

Raezon was enemied once. He went and played with the guards for his own amusement after that, if I recall the matter correctly.
