Doublepain?

Currently, as a psymet monk, I use doublepain/mindfield/psiarmour in my channels.

Now, as for the doublepain, does it ONLY increase wounding, not damage? And I take it that ti doesn't work for bashing, right?

Or when bashing, should I use another psiarmour or other skill in its place?

It only increases wounding, and I think it is only like seven extra wounds. And when bashing, regeneration.

It's like 10% extra wounds (i.e like 40, making 440). I never really bother locking it.

The name doublepain is very misleading. Saaga did try psymet, but no.

I tested out DoublePain in several arena battles. I wish that I had recorded the actual numerical results. Nonetheless, here are my general findings.

It appears that DoublePain only applies to unarmed combat. Does not apply to jakari or other weapon moves. So, in a typical jakari, jakari, kick-- only the kick would have additional wounding.

In a test of punch, punch with soft strength, punch with doublepain, and finally punch with soft strength AND doublepain I found the following:

Soft wounds adds a significant amount more than doublepain alone. Let's say where I wounded alone in the 130's, soft added 12 wounding where doublepain added one.

Double pain adds 10% wounding to unarmed combat, which was more effective when used in combination with soft strength, though still not what you would expect for "double" pain.

So, my final conclusion? Not very useful as a locked channel in combat situations-- especially if you rely on poisoning your weapon. Maybe someone with more combat experience can persuade me otherwise.

So, what makes the skill all that more frustrating is that a low-level kata skill out-wounds a fabled skill in psychometabolism. Is there anyway for someone to take another look a this skill? Maybe I wouldn't feel so negative about doublepain if I could add it to jakari maneuvers as well.

For bashing, regeneration, enhancement and bloodboil ftw.

Sad part is doublepain was increased once already.... I swear, it needs some strong loving.

Seriously. Truth in advertising, please?

Yeah, no joke. Kata itself is becoming a more of a weapon based skillset, so we will need to change Doublepain to affect weapons anyways. You talk to your people, I'll talk to my people, and we can see about getting it changed.
