Rune..... or rune?

Back to Common Grounds.

My instrument decayed recently (because I'm *beep* lazy) and instead of going from the process of taking it back to maestro (ditto with the lazy thing), I decided to get an arti rune to attach to it.

Plenty to choose from, but two that caught my eye are:

Increasing magical attack by 10%. I'm pretty sure minorsecond is magical (100% magic) so that's no issue there. This costs 400cr.

Or

Increasing chance of critical by 2% (ie 2/100). This costs 200cr.

I wonder which is worth it? And please don't say get both!

lol, those can only be put on jewelry

What Orti said, but ignoring that, magic damage.

CODE
------------------------
RUNES FOR SPECIAL  ITEMS
------------------------

The following runes may ONLY be attached to the following items: mage
staves, druid cudgels, wiccan athames, guardian symbols, and bard instruments.

Great Rune of Gripping
o This will make your rune act as though you had the knight ability of
the same name, causing you to grip your item so that it is difficult
    to drop.
  o 150 credits.

Great Rune of Superior Enchantment
o This rune will allow the object to be enchantable for up to 75
    charges.
o NOTE: If this rune is placed on a staff and charged with an enchantment
you need to POINT, remember you need to POINT STAFF AT to
use the enchantment and POINT STAFF to use the normal staff
    attack.
  o 250 credits.

Great Rune of Shielding
o Transforms the object into a shield item (stats 52/52), so you may use
    it for any shield-related skill.
  o 350 credits.

Sorry, but none of the ones you mentioned above there could be attached to an instrument. However, getting a magic damage rune for a separate reason is something I'd say would be very good.
Rika2008-07-04 22:11:38
Yep. Only gripping, superior enchantment and shielding can be placed on instruments (and other things like symbols). Otherwise, definitely magic rune.
Ashai2008-07-04 22:12:46
There are other artifacts you can put on your instrument: one that turns it into a shield, one that acts like a permanent fist sigil, and one that makes it enchantable. I'm not sure that any of them are really worth it, but I've always thought it would be cool (if I were still a wiccan) to use a shield one on my athame so I could shieldstun people with a two-pound knife. ninja.gif

I got a Shield rune for my violin. Saves me the hassle of maintaining a shield and it made my instrument maestro. Getting a fist sigil works just as well as the Gripping rune anyway, so..just get a Shield rune and stick a sigil!
Arin2008-07-04 22:20:56
Meh! I thought instruments can get all runes, but the bottom ones are specificially for those.

Now the question is:

Shielding Rune or Enchantment rune?

Shielding, no question.

Shield rune, by far
Xiel2008-07-04 22:27:37
Shielding.
Arin2008-07-04 22:28:03
Bought.
Xiel2008-07-04 22:31:57
Woo. Enjoy the new shield! Try to remember to upkeep the occasional fist so you don't drop it now.
Shaddus2008-07-04 22:52:56

Just so I understand, does that mean Influence Runes can't be put onto a instrument either?
Xiel2008-07-04 22:53:37
'fraid not.

'fraid not.

Seems like something someone should envoy.

As far as I know, the rune of gripping does not -just- work like a fist sigil. It works like the Gripping skill that Knights and Monks have which is far better. A good investment.
Rika2008-07-05 03:50:14
Ronny is right. Gripping /= fist sigil.
Asmodea2008-07-05 10:50:14
what stats are on a shielding rune anyways?
