Because sometimes you have to go somewhere without Internet. Oh noes. But you need an explanation for why your character will be out of commission for a little bit.

Personally, I've had Lanath go work for Quahog for a little bit when she was a novice, wander outside the Basin, go meditating in the mountains, so on and so forth.

I've found that researching outside the Basin is a common explanation.

Do you have a favorite way to roleplay absences? Or just seen a very creative explanation that you'd like to share?

Aiakon always conveniently went insane (again) and departed to the Dramube Triangle to meditate there among the earthy goodness when he had to leave for a while. Since spontaneous and unexplained insanity was a good part of Aiakon's roleplay and Geomancer-tastic I quite liked it.
