Please give families with 50 members the option of being a Great House or not, because as the system stands right now it is better to not be a Great House than to ever be one.
You are penalized for participating far more than you are rewarded and you are penalized for not participating on top of that.

Sorta is starting to sound tempting. Either that or a nice big string of ousting.
Arix2008-07-18 05:07:55
Still say you should kick Munsia out
Revan2008-07-18 05:17:20
he did... and lost 100 honour for it
Arix2008-07-18 05:22:50
totally worth it

Why though? Scoring negatives in the GH doesn't actually hurt you in any way aside from the fact that it's called "dishonourable". I don't think you'd lose GH just for having a score that's too low.

Actually it does hurt, I have had 3 people turn down offers to join the family "because they have had offers from more honourable familes" So yes, it does affect more than just being called dishonourable. I suppose that is hard to see, having being gifted with most honourable.

I can give you a least of more honourable families than the Mes'ard and not strictly talking about IG mechanics

Hrm. Mechanics vs. RP?
Sure, there'll be people that won't want Mes'ard/d'Murani since they're not most honourable. There are, however, people (RP people mostly) who'd love a dishonourable family, and the negative influence it has on the Basin.
And I'm not saying this just because I'm a Talnara. I am not.
Shiri2008-07-18 07:18:56
Maybe honour should just not go below 0.
And why is disowning someone dishonourable anyway? That doesn't make sense. The whole POINT of disowning people is so that they're not associated with you anymore.

Kelysa2008-07-18 07:22:18
I don't really think we have a negative influence on the basin. Most of us at least.

Yup as it stands right now it is far better to keep trouble makers who bring your family name down in the family than it is to remove them.
Gregori2008-07-18 07:33:25
On a side tangent... Admins posessing mobs to try and get a family to take a patron is just ridiculous. Present us with a suitable option for a patron and we will consider it, don't possess mobs and try and argue one of two unsuitable patrons should be our patron. It was neither needed RP nor asked for RP and seriously just caused more trouble than was worth.
Unknown2008-07-18 07:36:39
Why hasn't the Mes'ards chosen a patron anyways? Is it because of the Serenwilde-Magnagora portions of the family?
If so, clearly you should split. Serenwilde gets the Mes and Mag gets the Ard.

Mag would be the d'Ard family?

That's right, 3 years ago Ixchilgal and I decided it would be fun to play a divided family with the RP of same father different mothers, and "who was the true Mes'ard line?" Little did we know 3 years later after spending 3 rl years working to great house, that a system would come in that pretty much forced single org families. d'Murani at least has the luxury of both sides being fairly well off with each other, but god help them if Glomdoring and Magnagora ever become enemies.
And there is nothing we can do about it other than watch our family be known as dishonourable. Now to some that might mean nothing at all, after all it is just some points. To others it means a great deal.
I suppose I could start taking in Seren Mes'ards and disowning Mag Mes'ards until the family was purely Seren.
Or I could start encouraging Mes'ards, who really shouldn't be leaders yet due to age, experience, or maturity, to contest Talnaras who are the current leaders, just so we can gain honour.
"So what reason are you contesting? Uhhh cause I am Mes'ard and we need the seat."
Aramel2008-07-18 08:40:15
Magnagora gets more Ard. Or rather, Ardmore.
(Yes, I am so ignoring the branch of the family that contains Munsia.)

It makes sense to me. It's a stain on a family's record when they have someone so bad they have to kick them out. The idea is, better to take a one-time hit to your standings for the shame of having to disown someone, than the ongoing loss from their behavior. I can't think of any good historical examples off the top of my head though (a few literary ones, but I doubt you'd find something like Jane Austen or Shakespeare persuasive).
Mechanically, it also serves to counter the minmaxing of casually kicking people out when they are being bad, or worse yet, farming honour by ousting before misdeeds and re-adding after.

Sure that's fine, but disowning being worth the equivilant of welcoming 10 people into the family is ridiculous. Much like the rest of this system.
