This

6335h, 5700m, 5400e, 10p exk<>-
A horrific, diseased parasite lurches forward and envelops you within his black aura, choking you with poisonous fumes.
You twist aside, deflecting part of the attack.

compared with this

5647h, 5700m, 5400e, 10p exk<>-
Crackling with electricity, a horrific, diseased parasite's aura suddenly discharges a powerful bolt of black lightning into your chest, leaving you spasming.
You twist aside, deflecting part of the attack.

I assume the black aura attack is asphyxiation based? This is why it does so much more than the more standard electrical attack? Beyond hyperventilate in acrobatics are there any other protections against asphyxiation?

This one attack makes parasites more deadly than symbiotes and necrotophs, something I find rather silly.

Edited to add:

7050h, 5700m, 5400e, 10p elrxk<>-

So the double dodge implies two sources of damage correct? This hit did 1.6 while the ones above did around 1.8 with only one dodge.

There are no other defences against asphyxiation available to you, so your best bet is to have a defence that blocks all damage, like drawdown, nightkiss, or ...surge. Oh wait, a favour would help. Either way, they piss me off so I basically don't hunt Muud for that reason, necrotrophs and symbiotes are so much easier it's silly but I can't get to them without a pyramid.

The reason it does more is just that the attack plain does more damage, like how Astral bulls do different damages on the "scream" and "scream and nearly blackout" attacks despite their obviously being the same type.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's part poison too, so snake/viscanti/etc. also helps, but it still seems to have a higher base damage or you'd expect a Moondancer to take less damage from it than the electrical one (they don't) due to snake + drawdown for poison but only proofs + drawdown for elec.

I wonder how much astrology spheres would help.

Yeah that is the kind of thing I would like to look into. I know very little about astrology (not even sure I know a single one in game) but BurningCenser would in theory help with this.

I am aware that it hurts more not just because of the damage type change, but also because it probably has a higher base damage as well. At the same time I have 10 DMP against asphyxiation and 0 against poison so it hurts that much more. If you changed it to one of the "normal" damage types then the attacks would not be that big of a deal.

Are there any other sources of poison or asphyxiation resistance I could acquire as a human Tahtetso? Drawdown, nightkiss, surge, snake, etc don't help me much smile.gif

I just find it odd how some sources of damage have multiple resistance sources, while others have few to none. I assume that is by design for some reason but it is frustrating.

I did a quick search for all the buffs you can acquire from others on the boards but I did not come up with much. A collection of the ways to resist different damage sources would make for a great scrying pool page though. Perhaps I should just put up what I know and get others to add to it?

I'd say holding your breath, but monks can't do that when they bash.
