3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor raises his wand to chest level as the surrounding noise level
diminishes. He then conducts a few measures of a slow tempo, and on a single

in even counts of four like a steady march.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram suddenly breaks away from the rhythmic march and embarks upon an energetic

Lukretia deviates from the orchestra to join in with Sram's melody, adding
lively and vigorous chords to the music.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Ribbons of blue light gracefully stream downward, twirling and twisting
themselves until they resemble a band of marching figures on the stage. Sheathed
at their sides are swords, staves, symbols, instruments, and shields, while
saluting at the forefront is a banner bearer hoisting the emblem of the Dawn
Brigade.

Shan plays a strong and commanding note on his violin, quieting the rest of the
joyous music on the stage.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shafts of light descend from the sapphire cloud. The hazy image of a magnificent
winged being dressed in golden armour emerges from the cloud, slowly landing in
front of the warriors, who are now all kneeling. She lifts a longsword over the
Brigade that crackles with sparkling blue light. The angelic figure smiles
softly and nods, then gracefully leaps out from the front of the stage before
dissipating into thin air with a resounding sigh.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
A sudden gust of wind sweeps across the room, and then the rousing music begins
to play once again, this time sounding more invigorated than before.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor waves his hands in gentle arcs and the orchestra begins to play a
relaxed and cheerful melody, the previous marching in the background gradually
becoming dimmer.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram strums a soothing series of notes on his mandolin, and the image of an
empty stone pool shimmers into view on centre stage.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Lukretia plays delicate liquid notes on her lyre, and the cloud of blue light
overhead begins to send streams of glistening raindrops into the pool, filling
it to the brim.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shan carefully arcs his bow across his violin with a relaxed expression on his
face, and several candles appear around the stage, flickering faintly yet
reassuringly.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Small bubbles begin to froth in the pool before emerging as twinkling motes of
light. Faint incorporeal bodies surround the motes, taking on the forms of
children, women and men much like the citizens of Celest. The figures go about
doing their daily chores around the stage in an improvised yet cheerful manner.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor slowly lowers his hands and the music all but quiets down to a dim
hum. The bright blue forms of the Dawn Brigade begin to disassemble, drifting
off to the sides of the stage to rest. Only a small handful remain behind,
vigilantly standing guard in front of the pool.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The lights in the theatre gradually go out, and all that can be clearly seen are
the flickering candles and a soft glow from the pool. The citizens drift around
as small motes of light before settling down on the surface of the pool to rest,
though a few remain behind to loiter. The music is now barely audible, remaining
in the background like a calming lullaby.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Suddenly, the trumpeters in the orchestra play a deep and foreboding series of
bass notes, nearly akin to diabolical laughter.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shan strains the bow over his violin with a tense and suspenseful tune filled
with gaping pauses. Gradually, murky red outlines can be discerned within the
darkness, slowly creeping towards the centre of the stage and stopping whenever
Shan halts his playing.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Lukretia frantically strums the strings on the lyre into a panicked melody as
the figures jump up to reveal their grotesque and tainted faces. Like the others
on stage, they too are composed entirely of light but of a jagged and crimson
hue. With mouths twisted into a wicked grin full of malice and cruelty, demonic
wings sprout from their backs and they lunge forward to attack the cobalt
warriors, taking them by surprise.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram plays a fast and high-pitched battle song on his mandolin and is soon
joined by the rest of the orchestra in full force. As the demons and warriors
clash on stage, vibrant flashes of violet light whip across the theatre like
fireworks, accompanied by loud metallic percussions from the cymbals. Sapphire
and scarlet bodies are thrown out over the audience before exploding like
shattering glass. The air is filled with a chaotic mix of colour and sound.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Appearing to be outnumbered, the last cobalt warrior finally succumbs to a
ferocious slash from one of the fiends. A loud roar-like noise erupts from the
orchestra as the demons raise their fists to celebrate. They begin to wreak
havoc across the stage, chasing after the unarmed innocents and extinguishing
the candles one by one.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor throws his arms up into the air and the orchestra goes into a
frenzy, playing a violent movement filled with heart-pounding notes.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
At last, all the candles on stage have been put out and the demons turn their
attention towards the pool. They creep towards the centre uninterrupted and
arrive at the pool's edge, rubbing their calloused hands in sinister
satisfaction.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
One of the demons starts to plunge its red claw into the pool, but as soon as it
just scrapes the surface the waters begin to bubble violently.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor raises his wand to point at the firmament and the orchestra plays
a single, mellifluous note that resonates through the air. The golden motes of
light that were previously in the pool jump out.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The ethereal bodies of the citizens quickly rematerialize around the motes and
surround the pool, standing in the way of the demons. They wield pitchforks,
brooms, and other household tools in their hands. There is a sign of fear and
worry in their expressions, but still they stand steadfast against the sanguine
forces.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shan plays a mocking tune of screeching notes on his violin as the demons rear
back their heads and laugh. One of them picks up a trembling kinsman and
casually tosses him across the stage where he shatters into small sprinkles.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram plays a rapidly vibrating sequence on his mandolin as the demons proceed
unto the pool, undeterred by the kinspeople. All of a sudden, the playing stops
as a sharp shriek cries out and a headless demon stumbles back and topples over.
Its head can be seen rolling around on the stage before it falls in front of the
audience.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Lukretia sweeps her fingers across her lyre to produce a melodic gasp and the
figures on stage turn their attention towards a shaking kinsman, who stands over
the body of the demon with a trembling shovel in his hands. He glances furtively
at his allies, but they appear to take the cue and suddenly everyone's
expression changes as they understand what they must do now.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Without warning, the Conductor frantically waves his hands and the orchestra
embarks on an energetic and loud movement. Red and gold collide on stage as the
kinspeople use all their available paraphernalia to combat the demonic forces. A
group of youngsters in the corner pelt the intruders with stones and pebbles,
driving one of them to the edge of the stage until they fall over in a splash of
scarlet sparkles.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
A crowd of elderly folk shoo away a fiend with their canes and brooms, knocking
it over a hidden trap where it lands headfirst onto the sharp end of a
pitchfork.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Clusters of flying imps harass one of the kinswomen, who lays sprawled on the
ground trying to shield herself from their tiny claws. Three maids rush over to
her side wielding hot fire pokers in hand and deftly pluck the imps out of the
air, where they explode in a small shower of sparkles with a barely audible
'pop'.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The citizens put up a lengthy fight against the demons, but despite their
efforts the sheer brute force of the tainted army overpowers their numbers until
only a handful remain, huddling around the pool in fear.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Lukretia releases a melancholic melody of sighing notes from her lyre as the
orchestra quiets down to a low hush. Once again the demons surround the pool and
begin to encroach upon its pure waters.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The light in the room grows slightly brighter as tendrils of gold creep onto the
stage.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shan plays a crystal clear yet ambiguous harmony on his violin. The kinspeople
clasp their hands to their breasts and look towards the firmament in hope and
prayer.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
From the corners of the room a golden glow begins to suffuse, spreading rapidly
like the morning sun rising over a new horizon.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram strums an uplifting and airy song that fills the air with resonant notes.
The demons stop in their tracks and look around the room in surprise.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The shimmering golden glow has now enveloped the entire stage. From behind the
curtains, sparkling motes of cobalt light emerge and bob towards the stage.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
From out of nowhere, a blue mote of light whizzes by your seat and hurries up
onto the stage. More sapphire spheres can be seen emerging from the walls and
corners of the theatre as they follow their kin into the light.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor waves his arms in encouraging motions as he gestures for the
orchestra to gradually increase their volume, the trumpets at the back bellowing
loud triumphant notes.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
As the sound grows to a crescendo, all of the performers hold their instruments
at a reverberating, inspiring high C note, which rings clearly through the air
and threatens to shatter the glass in the theatre.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The demons shrink back in alarm as the waves of blue lights bounce onto the
stage and surround the crimson fiends. All of a sudden they begin to unravel
like ribbons of sapphire silk, twirling and undulating in a hypnotic display. It
is not long before the familiar forms of the cobalt warriors begin to take
shape, heralding the return of the soldiers of the Dawn Brigade.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The Conductor clenches his right hand into a fist and the orchestra comes to a
sudden halt. The Brigade takes a moment to yawn and stretch, looking very much
as if they had just woken up from a long slumber, before turning around to face
the demons who are now backing away in fear. The globe in the theatre shines
brightly and casts away every shadow with its brilliant golden light.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Shan strikes a strong and commanding chord on his violin and the soldiers charge
towards their enemies. The orchestra begins to resume their playing, starting
with the strings and woodwind instruments together in a harmonic unison.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Sram plucks a lively sequence of arpeggios on his mandolin and the kinsfolk on
stage cheer their allies on. The remaining percussionists join in the ensemble
as the music volume quickly builds up.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Lukretia brushes her hand across the strings of her lyre to create a rousing and
victorious melody. A thunderous sound like the clashing of two enormous cymbals
erupts from the stage as the demons and warriors collide, followed by a blinding
white light that explodes from their point of impact. Everything on stage is
enveloped in its luminosity, silencing the room entirely.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
Within the light, the familiar outline of a winged female donned in golden
armour shimmers into view. She nods her head in approval and curtsies gracefully

She nods her head in approval and curtsies gracefully
to the audience. A soft smile plays across her lips as she snaps her fingers
nimbly, and then the lights on the stage go out.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The lights slowly appear once again to reveal the rest of the performers, who
stand proudly at the front of the stage with their instruments by their sides.
Simultaneously, they bow graciously to the audience and then wave to everyone
before making their way backstage.
3653h, 3413m, 3135e, 10p, 15835en, 14890w ex-
The curtains draw to a close on an exquisite pine stage, signaling the
conclusion of the performance of 'Symphony No. 1: Defenders of Dawn'.

Great!
But the demons so should've won that. Think of the controversy!

It's a Cantor performance, we don't do Demons in Celest

Interesting. Seren should try a musical sometime, though in a text game a musical and a play might not be that different.

THIS. Now THIS is excellent Celest rp. Very well done.

I've been planning a big-production-number musical Bollywood-style romantic comedy for a while, though every time I try to work on it, I get writer's block. It's hard to get music into productions in a text-only thing in a way that works, and dance even more so, and expansive choreography, trebly so!
Actually, it was in part trying to get music into the production for Nifilhema's Tear that led me to use the musical interlude between scenes I used for that and all my other large plays. (It also serves the role of the Greek chorus without confusing the modern audience who's not familiar with a Greek chorus, unless they've watched Mighty Aphrodite... and draws attention to the changing of scenes. Which is more important in my Second Fall of Gloriana plays since in those I used the literal sense of the word "scene" that you see in things like Shakespeare -- a scene is all set in one setting. I fudged on that in Nifilhema's Tear a few times.
Good work to the Cantors, by the way! (Sometimes I envy you that orchestras, symphonies, and choirs suit your setup so well.)

Oh, I saw the Greek chorus thing and squee'd (Nifilhema's Tear was right around the time I joined, I think). It's been used a few times in other people's performances - I've used it, and I know Zia has. So you started a sort-of trend with that.

Thank you, thank you, on behalf of all of us (I don't think the others go on the forums much :>)
Eheheh... I'm extremely glad to have finally been able to put that show on. It's been sitting around for literally over a year due to problems getting together with all the performers. I wish all the old Cantors could've been there to see it ='(
Though... there's a blaring typo that I can't believe I missed and a tiny section missing too x_x But still very proud of our guild! Hopefully this will encourage more people to realize how wonderful the stage is
Edit: I'd love to see a Bollywood-style production in Lusternia

I need to spend a weekend watching some Bollywood all day Saturday and writing all day Sunday to make it happen, I think. I had an outline of the plot written a few RL months ago, but I never manage to get anywhere on it.
Elodres2008-08-05 17:29:19
Very nice! I would've like to be at the premiere of it...
But why do you tune to an A-flat?
But why do you tune to an A-flat?

Hrm... I don't know why actually. It was there as a part of the original ancient script which I've heavily redone and added onto. Perhaps just to make it look more musical-y and authentic?
