I currently live in Ottawa, have my whole life. I think a change of scenery, a cutting of all ties might help me become a bit more stable, lead a normal life, be less depressed. I'm fairly certain I want to go somewhere smaller and greener then Ottawa and still remain within the province.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

America!

I was thinking of London, there was a good university down there I had planned to apply to sometime. My main requirements really are to find subsidized housing, and there be a lot of parks where I can walk my dog (in downtown Ottawa, it is not uncommon to find rancid dumpsters leaking with questionable fluid, a plethora of broken bottles, discarded drug needles and used condoms are just some of the scenery I got to experience in this morning's walks.)
Likely it'd be a while before I could move (save up for a moving truck, and be put on a waiting list for the housing.)
America is full of smog >> And it's not located in Ontario!

Heh, I think only a small group of people here can answer that question for you. You're thinking smaller so more rural? Something like Ajax or Peterborough? London sounds nice too from your description of it. I guess you won't like Toronto then.
Personally I'd be keen on trying Montreal :>

Montreal's in Quebec though, and my ODSB will only allow me to move in Ontario :/
Toronto's by far larger than even Super Ottawa, though it does have a lot of rural communities just outside of the city (though would any of these have subsidized housing :? )

I really like London, it's such a nice city. I don't know how many parks we have, I only go to two. One's right outside of my front door so that's nice. We have a lot of concerts in the summer time. Everyone's overall nice, I've had to ask tons of people for directions when I first moved up here. Dundas street is a little iffy, some drugged up people walking around the bars but that's downtown in every city. Great college and university.
-shrug- I grew up on a farm, been living in London for 2 years now... I'm still not used to city life. Nice place to live though!
My 2 cents.

The Moon.

Really, smog? That's a problem in gigantic metros, not the other 80% of the US.
Kharaen2008-08-21 19:53:02
I wouldn't know, only basing off what Americans have told me when they come to Canada for a visit...even Ottawa's air is a lot cleaner then where they've come from.
But my first sentence states I've never been out of Ottawa, so I apologize for my ignorant remark >>

That's probably because Ottawa is tiny compared to the city they come from.

Well, the best thing I can suggest Khar is to get out of the major cities. I'm someone who needs much the same type of environment to function. You'll probably want to stay roughly along the American border, as that's where the most jobs are found, easier types of transportation, etc.
You will find instances of smog in any major city, whether they're American or Canadian.
Places suggested so far are pretty good, barring the American one because of the reasons you stated. Watch yourself though, it's too easy in a smaller city or town to find yourself unable to find work, relationships and a place, though usually the smaller the area the cheaper the property and rent values.

Still think my suggestion is best.

I think I've decided on London. Now to save up a year for the moving expenses, find a place that'll rent below what I'll be provided for rent by ODSP, and place myself on the 5-8 year waiting list for RGtI program.
