Couldn't it be possible to adopt a child with just the mother / father if the other parent is INACTIVE. IE unranked? I find it pretty silly that families are doomed as soon as one parent is gone. It's an -adoption- anyhow, as long as you don't want to RP a biological child there's really no need for both parents.

I guess I'm just annoyed that Forren is M.I.A and that I can't continue the family. At all. ranting.gif

Tell me about it. It also irks me that you HAVE to be married. Single parents adopt IRL all the time. -.-

If I could adopt on my own, things would be sooooo much easier. dry.gif

Gays? Sure. Sacrificing babies for a ritual that's actually PROGRAMMED INTO THE GAME!? Sure.

Single Parents?

NEVER EVER FORBIDDEN BLASPHEMY!

Well it doesn't have to be single parenting. I'm just talking about adopting if you are married already but your hubby is inactive.

Uhm... RL comparison...

Married but separated? Don't think you can adopt without the spouse being about in that case...

game convenience > rl realism.

If someone is so inactive that they are unranked do you really think they care anymore?

I'd like to see this implemented. And if people are worried about the other parent not liking the kids adopted (when they come back) - you can do that anyway when they're around with enough bickering biggrin.gif

There is a very valid reason for why Lusternia doesn't do 'broken homes'. Read as: Achaea proved that allowing single parent families was a bad idea.

Just because "we can do it IRL" doesn't mean it has to be the same rules in game.

Though, that doesn't count for Shadow's situation. Which is slightly different.

Personally I would prefer if any one parent could adopt and the other parent had the 1 game year grace period to veto the adoption. Instead of requiring both parents to acknowledge.

It would solve the issue of a parent going inactive and families stagnating due to it, and still allow for both parents (assuming active) to have the same control over who they adopt.

Edit:: And just to clarify, single parent families is a relatively new concept in human history. Sure there were single parents as far back as time, but the family concept was a major thing and a single parent was a situation of a bastard being born to a scullery maid, who usually wed any man who would take her to hide her disgrace. Being a "single parent" was not something to be proud of. You were a dirty whore if you were known to have children out of wedlock. (Even by today's standards where it is more accepted you will find a good portion of people view single parent families with disgrace and disdain.)

Another Edit:: Single parents do not adopt "all the time" IRL. 33% (which is up from just 30 years ago where it was less than 1%) of all adoptions are single parent and usually females who meet a rigid criteria and have support from groups like Single Parent Adoptions of America. They also tend to adopt special needs children or older children who are just about to be tossed from the foster care system.

I'll be yo huckleberry, Shadow wink.gif

Nah, kidding. Look, when you see Thoros raiding Celestia sometime, tell him to jump his ass on Aetolia and tell Forren to log on. Hell, I thought YOU knew where Forren was.

What bugs me though, to consider a child, you have to have two parents around.

Kandi and I rarely together!

(But we still tell everybody that mummy and daddy still love each other and it's not their fault).

Come on! Allow me to adopt alone if my hubby is UNRANKED! pray.gif
Rika2008-09-08 06:47:15
Or you can, you know, make Forren come back? sad.gif
Unknown2008-09-08 11:16:35
No, no, no. The obvious solution is to divorce and re-marry! (Yeah, that means adopting into a different family then, I realize...)
Unknown2008-09-08 11:26:16
You know what, maybe I'll do that. Clearly, not even a Celestian family can have a future due to game mechanics. Just shows how much fail Celest is.
