I was curious so I decided I'd check this out.
25 threads on the first page of the ideas forum due to the 5 stickied ones.
30 on the every other.
So in the first, say, four pages, how many of the ideas there have been implemented since the thread (i.e weren't already in place, weren't rejected, weren't ignored.) Points also awarded for a Divine saying "we'll implement this" even if it hasn't been done yet; zero points if it had to be envoyed before getting implemented, though. Half a point for a "monkey's paw" thread that gets a fix but not in the way originally intended such that it doesn't correct the problem (this one will be subjective.)
Some of these might have been ninja implemented and I'll be unaware of them. If that's the case, let me know and I'll fix the list. Even threads with retarded ideas are worth noting: being retarded is a great reason for the admin not to implement something, I just want to see what the actual proportion is rather than make a comment on what the ideal proportion is. A very low proportion might be due to large numbers of retarded ideas, large numbers of well-intentioned but impractical ideas like new skillsets, too many repeat threads, or the admin not listening enough (or any combination of the the above.)
Here's page 1.
Guardian Summon Picking? - 0pts
Riding Ideas? - 0pts
Salt and Sulfur? - 0pts

So 1/25, maybe if you allow that borderline point. Now, these ideas are all recent so maybe the admin haven't had time to implement them: let's take a look at page 2.

Linked Families - 1pts, depending on whether this came before the bloodbond fixes
Artefact Runes - 0pts
2/30.
I notice that a surprising number of this is repeats - i.e threads I've seen many, many incarnations of. Some of these are obvious ones ("new class", "fix forging in X way") but there are others.

Most ideas on the ideas thread are horrible. I think it says a lot more about the posters than the admin.

Yeah, I noticed that as I was going down the list, somehow I had a rose-tinted perception of the kinds of stuff that gets posted there.
That said, at least six of those threads are good ideas that don't involve making a new skillset or class or whatever. Maybe it's just the case that the terrible stuff drowns out the good stuff so the admin miss it.
EDIT: And I wonder if we can't improve the signal to noise ratio somehow.
Xavius2008-09-08 04:10:32
I dunno. The admin say they check the Ideas board more often than Idiots, but all the ideas that matter end up on Idiots. Also, if org leadership in Seren and Glom have taught us anything, the way to improve the signal to noise ratio is to disenfranchise the average player with an opinion. Kinda defeats the point of the forums if we keep only the veterans and the ones without vocal opinions.

Insert subtle advertisement for fixing Dreamweaving.
(I've even put the thread link in an IDEA message once!)

Bull = Shofangi = Taurian

Add something about how shofa resemble horns and there were a few posts about how the weapons resemble the natural weapons of the races, and presto, another pointless idea thread!
It's about the general caliber of a thread on that forsaken board.
Shiri2008-09-08 04:56:01
You can check it out here if you're curious, only locked non-necroed thread in the first 5 pages. I would argue that it was subpar even for Ideas, but still.
Xenthos2008-09-08 10:42:34
It might be possible to put together a pinned thread in IDEAS that links to / cuts and pastes the relevant point of "good" idea posts up until they're implemented, but then more questions arise. 1) Who determines whether it's good? 2) Will it be read even so?
Fain2008-09-08 11:28:45
We definitely read the ideas forum and we also read the submitted ideas on a pretty regular basis. The problem is, we're not exactly twiddling our thumbs up here. As lovely as it would to implement some of the better ideas, we're busy and they have to compete with other projects to get coding time.
This may mean that they never happen, or it may mean that they do happen but extremely slowly. In fact, from that PoV Nejii's data isn't exactly representative. The stuff in the last two pages of ideas is relatively new and if any of it has been considered it may well still be a long way from the top of the queue.
It's certainly not the case that nothing in this thread gets implemented - off the top of my head, I can think of two things: the Parallax arena and the new bug system. And even if things don't get used, that doesn't mean they're not useful. Ideas threads are often the starting point for brainstorming and may contribute materially either to new designs or to the thought processes behind them.
In short, keep it up. We really appreciate it.

I didn't think the last two pages would be representative, it was just getting to be a hassle to keep going back.

You're wrong, fyi. It spams still, which is why I have decided to take them all out and hoard them in my shop just to increase the total amount of items in the game. (Yes, I'm so totally evil).
@Fain: Just my personal opinion, but I would find new features more interesting than more areas at this point. Some things can even be done with progs, so it's not like you -always- need a coder for everything. Progs don't always have to be used just as a part of a quest either - but that seems to be the foremost opinion here. :/
Gwylifar2008-09-08 12:27:13
Reserving one out of (say) 20 envoy slots for non-combat-related ideas would make more of a difference IMO than any single other thing for addressing this. We already have a nicely developed and refined envoy system, no sense in inventing a second solution for the same problem. Just let combat own 95% of the world and save 5% for everything else.
Shiri2008-09-08 12:29:18
Or just add a 21st slot so no one guild gets even less of a chance at enacting change than it currently does.

Nejii works too much. I hear Achaea's mortal mods got the nerf stick.
Should we do that to Nejii?

Progs are great and progs are versatile, but progs aren't anything like as reliable as code and, of the things Nejii has listed, progging is pertinent only to the Tainted Broadcast Centre.
Our coders are very important little chaps.

Obviously, but even those small things can add a bit more flavour / immersion - discovering those is fun as well. More so than some huge new coded features or arena games imo.
@Nejii: An envoy slot for general skills would be nice. No envoy ever wants to use their guild slots for it, obviously.
