giggle.gif Have my roommates completely scared, but I figure it's more it just wont work than it will or it'll destroy the world.
Casilu2008-09-10 03:15:36
There are three ways it can destroy all we know and love.

I was wondering when someone would make this thread

A radio station playing at about 7 am today had a little contest. For about an hour, you were to call in and tell them in five words or less what you are going to do today, seeing as it all ends tomorrow.

They also played various end of the world songs, the one in the title was played as well.

Really, if the world ends, I'll be sleeping, or going to work. Because my bosses don't really care if we all live or die.

laugh.gif I'll be sleeping if I have the time correct.

As a sidenote, we all know that if the world blows up, some alien watching our planet to see if we're worth anything is going to say "I felt a disturbance in the Force. As if a million people suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced" to which someone is going to turn to him and say "Oh, shut up C'casdef'acadv'avert'acasca'bob. You liked those human movies too much, and look what just happened. They got their smartest people to run around, waste millions upon millions of their currency, and then they blow themselves up, just to see what would happen." "Is that any better than you and watching their various mating rituals on their inside-web?" "Let's not talk about my human fetish, they're all dead now." "Necrophiliac." "Just shut up, dammit."

They'll be circulating the beam today, but they won't be having any collisions until October 21st! That's still more than a month away! I think THAT'S when we'd see mini black holes! :X

Everyone knows the aliens bask in the awesomeness that is lusternia.

I'm sorry, but I liked this quote from the article.

QUOTE
That's right, our friends at the LHC project expect a lot of weird things to pop up when they start smashing atoms together, and strange matter is one such possibility. That's why scientists have written papers with boring titles such as Will Relativistic Heavy-ion Colliders Destroy Our Planet?, the rebuttals to which were basically, "Let's turn them on and find out!"

Kharaen2008-09-10 06:03:03
Finally, the end of the world. Should of happened ages ago.
Silvanus2008-09-10 06:52:56
Most generations in history believes they are the end of the world, or the ones to save the world.
Jigan2008-09-10 07:21:37
Did any other generation have a super collider thingie capable of producing black holes, in theory?

Yes but we are doing such a good job so far

Hey and yay for relevant Pratchett Quotes
QUOTE
Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying "End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH," the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

QUOTE
The calender of the Theocracy of Muntab counts down, not up. No-one knows why, but it might not be a good idea to hang around and find out.
QUOTE
Any true wizard, faced with a sign like "Do not open this door. Really. We mean it. We're not kidding. Opening this door will mean the end of the universe," would automatically open the door in order to see what all the fuss was about.
QUOTE
No, of course, Twoflower never wanted to cause any trouble. Some people never did. Probably the last sound heard before the universe folded up like a paper hat would be someone saying "What happens if I do this?"
QUOTE
Ponder: "I mean, wouldn't it be nice if you ended up with some creature that started to think about the universe--?"
God: "Good gravy, I don't want anything poking around!"
QUOTE
"I'll tell you, the day someone pulls the plug out of the bottom of the universe, the chain will lead all the way to Ankh-Morpork and some bugger saying 'I just wanted to see what would happen.'"
QUOTE
Dr. Hopkins: "My word, I see you have finished your clock! What a magnificent piece of work! Well done indeed, Jeremy! And what is this pretty blue glow?"
Jeremy: "It's, it's the crystal ring."
Lady LeJean: "It spins light. And then it makes a hole in the universe."
Dr. Hopkins: "Really? What an original idea! Does a cuckoo come out?"

Who thinks Pratchett might be a little bit cynical?

I can't pass a sign saying not to touch something without reaching out and poking that something. Even if I don't actually push the button, or whatever it is, I have to touch it. It's like a mental illness or something. laugh.gif
