I don't know much about aether space and or crafts so i have a question. How much of a bad idea would it be to drop a command chair in and empty room of a small manse and poke around the aether? Is that just asking to get one shotted by random mobs every few minutes or would that be possible? What do you think are the minimum requirements for an aethercraft to not be a deathtrap if that is the case?

People do it all the time. Go for it.

As far as I know (and it's not a lot at all!) the smaller your ship, the faster it goes. So, while you might be really weak with a one or two room ship, you should be hella quick too, right?

4 roomer outruns things easy.

One-roomers are quick, sometimes too quick (i.e., I keep gliding past). So I turn farhorizon on or something.

An empath grid is nice, though, if you have the means for it.

I used to fly all around Aetherspace in a one-roomer before someone made the Lady of Light vanish from the docks of Celest. It is very much possible, and is in fact the best way to get wherever you want in Aetherspace.

Wel I had a two room manse that was furnished so I had to add another room for the chair. Once I got the hang of the controls the aetherbeasts were no trouble as long as I wasn't being stupid and just sitting there or flying into a corner full of them.

The first place I found in my travels was faethorn but when I tried to return to my ship I was unable. I finally found a person kind enough to let me use their whistle to call my house back to the aetherplex. I was so bummed that I had lost my house a couple hours after I put wheels on it.
But it all turned out ok in the end.
