My idea is for a new ability in the dreamweaving skillset called (for lack of a better name) Vision (seriously...it's a bad name).
Essentially, it would grant the dreamweaver the ability, whilst in dreamform, to weave an improved illusion into the mind of a single target. Unlike the normal DREAMWEAVE ILLUSION, which is only white text seen by the entire room, Vision would be seen by your chosen target and nobody else.
This ability meshes very well with the storyline dreamweavers' ability to...well, to weave dreams. This also allows the dreamweaver to screw with a target's mind, have them see things that don't exist in vivid detail. The syntax could be almost identical to the current improved illusion ability in the illusions skillset and could even have a similar powercost (ie. 2 power per illusion). An additional idea could be to have the ability cost 2 power if the target is awake and be free if they are asleep.
Any thoughts?

I like it!
But I don't fight, so I'm no judge of combat potential. I think it just sounds super fun.

Oh, I'm well aware that this has little to no effective combat potential. It's just something that I thought would be really neat to implemant.
Daganev2008-09-15 20:16:10
don't you already sort of have that ability? "you hear a whisper in your mind" or something?

Actually, it has tremendous combat potential. Hurt your oponent with illusions, without hurting your allies.

That's dreamspeak, the only way they have the ability to interact with others.
They do have an illusion thingy or two, but they're rather limited, aren't they?
Gwylifar2008-09-15 20:48:13
Even illusionists can't do that.
Furien2008-09-15 21:14:59
You can dreamcast Hallucination motes for targetted illusions, but it either requires their aura to be punctured while awake or for them to just be asleep.
So the literal 'dream weaving' part of the skillset is possibly, just..really badly named.

Embed
if you wanted to you could embed hallucination, it would fire an illusion to all enemies in the room every x seconds
Furien2008-09-15 23:27:15
Right, I know that. When I'm a dick I feel like dropping passive roomwide choke illusions. However, the topic was making an illusion specifically at a single person, to be seen by them and nobody else, as if you could actually make someone experience dreams.

If you won't make Dreamweavers viable for combat, give them flavour I say! Two thumps up on the good idea Krackenor!
Xenthos2008-09-16 00:24:18
I believe we included something like this in the Dreamweaving report.
So, we also thought it was a good idea.

Excellent. Make it so, number one.

Well, it was rejected, since the Dreamweaving report was a while ago now.

That's a shame. The idea to actively mind screw someone had been exciting to me for the past few days so I wrote this up to reflect that. As you can tell by my first couple posts, I hadn't even considered combat capability.
Was any reason given for the rejection?

Not that I can remember.

Other than "you can already do this?" That seems like a pretty good one right there.
Krackenor2008-09-16 02:20:42
We can't do that.
What we do have is the Hallucination mote, a basic illusion that requires the usual puncture/flick or embed and is pretty clearly meant for combat.
What I'm proposing is more flavour, and is not a mote at all.

I guess the question should be then is this, what can make Dreamweaving more viable for combat? Then work from there. I used to love Dreamweaving ,but I will not use it for combat as Telepathy is much more superior
Krackenor2008-09-16 02:31:09
Actually, I was completely ignoring the combat aspect here in favour of something that I thought would be fun. I'll let others who actually fight work out how to make it combat viable.
