What's a good tactic for fights against a harmony monk who has chuuti (the auto-peace-on-attack mantra) up? And with dodging?
I spar Tahtetso, but can't seem to get anywhere because my ppk and other forms are interrupted by chuuti. In fact, I don't even have that many forms made because against Tahtetso, they just aren't useful, with chuuti + faeleaf + dodging all together. Is there any viable strategy right now?
The things I do in Tahtetso v. Tahtetso combat:
-ppk head
-assorted tahtetso forms against leg
-left hold + right hold
-throw (after hold)
-dislocate (after hold)
-bomir'rak (or is it bomrakobo?) which should be some kind of stun/paralysis thing, I think

You can't actually do much about it, you just have to wait until chuuti eats a nerf so it stops janking your forms up.
Carry on with actual good forms and just hope the random number god favours you. Against dodge proning works though. Make sure your proning things go first.

I know I am by far one who should not even speak about combat ...
but ...
focus some on the vibrations over the dislocations/locks/breaks.
go for a shattered ankle before the throw
attacks to the head is good, but most people protect the head ... vary it up.
Dugan.

Chuuti is totally random. Which at times completely stops an attacker, and at other times does nothing whatsoever.
I've gone up against Chuuti against one person in particular and never got past the first form until my sixth try or so, then I got far enough to kill him, about eight forms into the kata. So..well, I don't see what's so super OP about it, honestly. Annoying, very definitely. OP? Meh.
I think it would be a lot better if being peaced only stopped the current form, instead of the whole kata...don't stop the whole thing unless they're still peaced when the next form starts, that I would go for.

Well, if you really want an immunity to chuuti, do one-attack katas. Even if chuuti would fire, it wouldn't stop the kata, but that's stupid, so...

I have been saying this for such a long time. But because Celenwilde holds the envoy process hostage. Chances are you won't see a nerf till an admin glances over enough rant posts that they decide to change it. Generally if somone is using peace I just walk away, there is no way around it sadly. Hopefully when momentum changes we won't be so destroyed by it.

Quit yer whinin' and wait for the monk changes. All will be right in the world (of Chuuti, at least).

Erm, don't katas have to be two forms or more?

Yes, but katas that have only one attack, I don't think they can be interrupted. I think it only stops the kata when chuuti fires in the one of the attacks that isn't the end, so, as long as you cure it, it should not interrupt the kata.

If there were more modifiers we could do that.
You know... speed/damage/paralysis/stunning/bleeding/tripping/wounding modifiers for a single punch to da face. FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!!
Edit: More modifiers as in more for kata/weapon. They all exist, but not all for one thing.

No, you can do it. You'll get some weird katas, but you can do it.

By 'we could do that' I mean 'we could do that as an effective and viable combat choice'

Define viable combat choice.

'could kill a good fighter'
Edit: 'or directly lead to said fighter's DOOM'!

Yeah, you could, just have to be clever.

Good thing Tahtetso and Shofangi won't be fighting each other for real often. And good thing for the rest of the world that chuuti is the most damaging to fellow monks. Aren't we lucky.
Lorick2008-09-18 06:42:07
I fight Tahtetso quite often, in fact most of my monk fighting has been Tahtetso believe it or not. And chuuti seems to be a common tactic used against me.
First thing I do is make sure my first three kata are strong and painful. I figure it is a rare thing to reach four in a row, might as well make the most of what I have. I also try to go for effects that hinder the monk and use some sort of passive effect for the fight, since I will have trouble building a kata. Peace will stop some of your katas, but I've noticed quick curing can solve some of the issues.
It isn't impossible to fight a chuuti monk, nor is it really the worst thing they could be using. Prism, wind, ect are very annoying to spar against when using properly, more so in my mind than chuuti considering. For a sit down knock down spar though, chuuti is perhaps the stronger, but it can be powered through.
