Why do so many people on these forums not get along with each other?
I've seen forumRP all over the place on topics that really don't call for forumRP, and it seems like if you're not from someone's org IG that on the forums you will not get along.
Why do people seem to pick on certain other people on the forums and immediately say their opinion is defunct because "they're THAT person"?
I don't get it... Explanation please?

Lusternia's structure encourages and fosters divisiveness. The OOC-IC Barrier is nowhere near as strong as people imagine it to be, and it's asymmetric: one's ability to avoid pushing OOC -> IC is usually not too bad, but the opposite direction blocks far less. The forum is just the one place where all of this can be seen -- and I would wager it's a fraction of how bad it would be if people weren't reined in and reining themselves in.

Along with what Gwylifar's already stated, you have to look at the demographic of the players- mostly high school to college age people and still in the cliqueish stage. That coupled with a fair saturation of OOC clans with functions beyond working on game mechanics just instigate and maintain the status quo. Eh, it is what it is.
Noola2008-10-16 14:31:49
You know, I've always wondered the same thing.
Ardmore2008-10-16 14:32:27
I'm just a bitter person.
Shiri2008-10-16 14:35:32
A little of what Gwylifar said, a little of what Urazial said, and a little of the ol' Penny Arcade's law. Interpersonal interaction-related cognitive processes and all that.
EDIT: Ok, it wasn't a double post, it was a triple post.

I feel bad now! Thanks a lot Myrkr. I'm going to grief you SO bad in game. (joke)
Urazial2008-10-16 16:18:02
I'm a negative influence on someone? Piffle.
EDIT: Of course, Xavius's post just shows how the forums can and are used to move personal vendettas and allow griefing to be moved into real life. As for Shayle, if she ever caused someone that much distress to someone OOC, I hate to say it but I find it moderately impressive, and that anyone who gets so worked up over an online game to be brought to tears then the very least of their problems is Lusternia or Shayle.

The person behind Rhysus' keyboard has an unfortunate incident involving a webcam and another Lusternian to his name.
I want to hear more.

People suck.
I actually used to get along with a certain member of Seren OOCly, we chatted on occasion, then she joined the CFDB, started some of the worst forum RP I've ever seen, and now we don't interact unless one is killing the other.
Occasionally she'll claim all of us mag's can't RP/are griefers/swerve to hit squirrels/laugh at cripples.
Ardmore2008-10-16 20:09:18
I can understand the laughing at cripples but WHO would swerve to hit a squirrel? That's just barbaric...
Desitrus2008-10-16 20:13:27
Internet.

Getting harassed in school or in public is unfortunate. Allowing someone to harass you to tears through a modem is pathetic.

I think another part of the reason (this applies more to the newbies who haven't played before) is they get made fun of or saying "just to ingore them" at points when they comment on the forums. This is also why I don't post that much on the forums, and if I do it is normally small things or quotes...In general I'm not liked by many people as I can come off as rude if you don't know me. (as I'm honest and am bluent about things I say....)
